Quick fingers!

I just wanted to tell all the defenders that play this game that they deserve a pat on the back. I rolled my second toon, a emp/elec defender about 5 years ago. Leveled him to 50,(my first) and it was fun and frustrating and a host of other things.
I rolled another toon, another, etc.

I dusted my defender off, transferred him to the server that I call home. Then I teamed up in a pick up group, and was in for a lot of finger mashing! Managed to get a few shots in, in between buffs and heals.

But, folks, it was tough! No rest between battles, no chances for me to eat cookies, like when I'm playing my blaster or scrapper.

My hats off you you folks, for protecting and serving the other heroes.

Good work! Me? I need a break.

Get a better team. >.>

When I generally play my Defenders I seem to have enough time to blast while I do all the stuff that my primary does. It's quite an active lifestyle, but it doesn't get close to my Emp/Psi's level 26-40 times when my team seemingly soured for one reason and another and I was constantly healing, or so it felt.

Usually the best medicine for feeling fried over healing (especially higher levels) is to simply find a new team, not to burst your Empathy bubble.

Unless the team is playing on the Nintendo Hard setting, in which case the fast XP rate compensates for your bloodshot eyes, clawed hands, and fried nerves. (Especially since there's no way they could have done it without you.)

I was on one of those teams yesterday with Manly Nurse, my emp/elec def. It was all radio missions in Brickstown, and I went from 27 to 30th lvl. I had to quit after about three hours, but it was great fun.

VIRTUE: Ms Pris - 50 scrapper, Brai Master - 50 tank, Candi Pain - 50 scrapper

It seems that the 25-40 range is the hardest for Empathy because not only is it's role changing, but everyone seems to flail about until they can figure out what they are doing once they reach PI. That's been my personal experience though.

Well, I got on another team and had a lot of fun teaming with another SG. It was odd, because they were on teamspeak and I wasn't. They were talking to each other, so they played better as a group. Made my job a lot easier. Plus, there were two other defenders to ease the burden. Definitely more fun when the pressure isn't all on me.

Still, my hats off to all the defenders. It's not an easy job in the higher levels, as you pointed out. Many of these folks are still learning what they can and can't do.

Multiple defenders make the support job MUCH easier.

Think Empathy is bad for button mashing? You should try a Kin.

Hell with a Kin....Make a Dark Miasma Defender and be done with it.

Massive healing, -Damage Resistance, -Enemy Damage, -Regen, Dark Servant which is a Heal Bot that can Tank, -toHit, and the rarely ever needed or used Team AoE Rez.

So Easy your Dark Servant can handle the heals on its own.....

I agree. Kinetics is a much more hectic button-mashing experience than Dark Miasma.

Dark Miasma's probably more powerful overall, but Kinetics is a unique experience in terms of the attention required to play well.

I believe you mean the frequently used AoE slow/stun/-regen power that happens to rez allies as a side effect.

This. A properly played Kin is the busiest support set by a significant margin.

The rewards are proportionate though

If you were a Kin/ I'd say 'button mashing' is normal (we're all speed addicts..) but as an Emp, it shouldn't be that common. But play how ever you want.

3 Cheers for us Defenders.

The easiest way to lighten your burden as an emp, or any buffer for that manner, is to set up keybinds to more quickly target and buff. I would like to share my own personal binds, but this is just a template. Figure out what works best for you.

Go into the options menu and select keymapping.
Find the targeting section and set select next teammate and previous teammate to the home and end keys.
Next set select teammates 1-8 to the corresponding numbers on the numpad to the right of your keyboard.
Then set your buffs to the numpad enter, numpad +, and numpad - or 0 keys.
For example fortitude can be enter, cm can be plus and ab can be 0.
If you play the way I think most people do using wasd to walk and mainly use the mouse to look around then this shouldn't be a hard transition to make. Though you can always try other keys to see what works best for you. At one time I had my attacks set as the function keys.

This. My Darks use Howling Twilight as an autohit debuff and control power that occasionally revives a fallen ally. i generally tell teammates that they should try to avoid dying too soon after i use HT so that i can revive them before the fight's over. It's great for recovering from a partial teamwipe, but far too good in general to save it just for rezzing purposes. That's handled by combining inspirations.
