Assistance with a name...

I have been thinking of creating a new character for when GR goes live, and I have run into a wall when it comes to his name.

This character will be a SS/Invluln Brute who will begin life as a Praetorian (though I might not actually put that into his official bio, depending mainly on how well things are explained about the lore of Praetoria after GR) and end up as a Hero or Vigilante. I have given him the real name of Derek Ferris (but that is subject to change as well). Derek will be of Mutant origin. As for his backstory? Well, he's a college-aged dude who has been misdiagnosed with an unexplainable case of argyria, it is unexplainable because he hasn't been exposed to elemental silver... and yet has developed a greyish tint to his skin. As time passes his skin begins to itch incessantly and eventually what appears to be metal begins growing out of his skin. He basically drops everything and begins life anew as a run-away.

These are two concepts of early interpretations of his appearance. I am going to change his skin tone to grey or light blue to fit with the argyria thing and possibly alter some colors around.

SOOOOO, what's a good super-heroey name for him? (If you want to actually check for available names, he will be created on Infinity, most likely... or possibly Justice.)

Griseous Gargoyle?
Glaucous Gargoyle?

Yes, I like the 'Gargoyle' name for him for some reason. So sue me.

Other adjectives I like are 'cinerious', 'liard', and 'hoary'. 'Hoary' probably wouldn't work as well since it implies age. All the words indicate shades of gray, by the way.

Argent would be the perfect name, but is undoubtedly taken or blocked. Something with Argent might not be, though. Argent Agent has nice alliteration, but he's not really an agent of anything, is he?

Not taking the time to search if they are taken or not but

Agent Argent (curse you Decorum for posting this moments before I did)

No, not an agent at all. I do like the word "argent" though. I also thought about something like "Silverfist"... but I don't really like it.

Nice use of the organic costume, by the way.

Derrick Ferris actually gives you an in to another name by association.

The words ferrous and ferric describe something with a high composition of iron, or having qualities normally found in iron.

So, he could be:

Ferrous Derrick (or Ferric Derrick, if you want it to rhyme)

Ferrous Fury (or Ferric Fury)

You could not be Ferric Lad, as that is a name used by DC comics for a member of the Legion of Super Heroes.

I also support the use of Argent in the name, although Argent by itself is out, as it is the name of a character from Grendel (the comic series).

Agent Argent, if he is a Loyalist.

Argent Rage or Argent Fury if the mutation causes him to be short tempered.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

Just FYI, he's Ferro Lad.

Given that he'll be a hero, and no doubt saving people, the world, you money on car insurance etc.

...what about - Argent Angel...?

(As it happens, I already have an Ardent Angel on Defiant, and he's had a few compliments for the imaginative name already...)

Thanks all for your help so far, BTW!

Yeah, he is definitely not an angel. I see him as a bit closer to vigilante... in fact, if he clicks, that is very likely the direction he will go.

That would be no coincidence. I picked the name "Ferris" for just the reason you mentioned. Also, the original name I went with was Ferrix... but it is taken, not to mention its appeal wore off on me pretty quickly.

I'd thought about 'argent', but it is typically used in heraldry and didn't know if it would fit here.

"Chrome" might be another word you would like in there. Chrome King, Chromancer, etc. Since you're going with Brute, I'm not sure if you're thinking more 'offensive' than 'defensive'. A couple 'defensives' might be Chrome Harbor or Chrome Guard. A couple more offensively-oriented names could be something more along the lines of ChromeGrip or Chrome Clash. Or maybe Chrome Gargoyle or Onslaught :P

How about Silverspike ? I checked earlier and it was available on Infinity, though not on Justice (and not on Virtue anymore ).

Hmmm, that's not bad. Maybe I was overthinking things.

Also, there is a chance I will change his real name to Derek Staal (making him of Dutch decent) and having him go by that.

You can try Ronce d'Argent, Ronce is the french word for blackberries bush.
Or Lierre d'Argent (lierre = ivy, vine ).

I don't understand the plant references.

Oooh, ok, so not Argent Angel. Perhaps Argent Avenger then...?

(Alliteration always aspires to be a personal point of preference.)

Not true alliteration (which I think Argent is kind of begging for), but maybe both starting with vowels will work.

Argent Outcast?

Argent Outlaw?

Argent Exile?

Argent Expatriot (ew...maybe not)?

Maybe this would be a better name if he went in the other direction (hero-->villain), but I'll offer it anyway. The idea of a mixed-morality silver character immediately brought the work Tarnished to my mind.

I like that one.

I generally go for puns . . .

since he will be wearing pieces of Silver, how about "Silver Wear"

If you wanted to go for a more pirate look, you could use some connection to "Pieces of Eight."

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

While it's not my call, I think that one's the best one so far.

It's a shame you are committed to a male. "Argent Tina" kinda speaks to me.
