He won't get too much flack as we always have goalkeepers that fumble sometime and some of them have been **** hot goalkeepers. The measure of him will be his ability to recover.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

Aye its a huge success for us to have been consistently in each of the last 6 World Cups after being out so long. But I want more!! Too many people here settle for just that. So I guess my personal expectations are abit high for them. *shrug* (pffft rugby ) As far as growing the sport here, thats a tough spot for us.

We need to be good to make people care -> We need great players with knowledge of the global game to be good. -> We need big money contracts to lure the talent -> We need people to care to get the money.

Right now we have a few good players, but still mediocre money and an average team.

Though I still tell everyone I know to watch it and get excited! :O

That said, there has been a lot of aggro about this new ball. Remembering the only team not to have practiced with it before arriving in South Africa was England (no thanks to Umbro). And while that's no excuse it could very well be a factor.

I only say this as in the two opening games, all four teams seem to have issues controlling and keeping the ball down... Just an observation.

England now have somthing to prove, and i'm looking forward to seeing them play like they did in the first 15 mins and the last for the rest of the tournament... Hopefully...

And from a Scot, living in the North of Scotland, where the English are most hated, no thanks to old people, the shocking education system and an apparant remberance of somthing that apparantly happened over 300 years ago...

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!

I don't think we hate the English the most up here. I would probably say that is a certain faction of Weedgies that take that title.

and when the site of the last battle on British soil is on your doorstep why wouldn't you remember it? Or were you referring to the clearances which again comes under local history.

Mostly the clearances, and we kind of asked for it (in my understanding anyway it was the lowlanders that did most of the damage with a minimal English presence)... I've done work on the battlefield to artifically preserve the supposed natural "OMG NO REGEN look Wuht Teh EnGlIsh has dun!" However a conversation for a different topic...

I have worked in Glasgow and Paisley and never got any real stick for having an English accent, (I have a complicated upbringing... still a scot though) yes there was a bit of banter but none of it threatining like it has been in "Snecky"... Perhaps I just didn't encounter any of the extreeme haters

That said I will support ANY British team in any major competition

Woah, don't know what's more surprising. The fact that we have two threads about football (there's one already in the Comics and Heroes forum ) or that the World Cup people are considering this!!

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sort of torn in this. If it's a national tradition etc, it's in keeping with the World Cup being held in South Africa, but honestly, that sound is driving me barmy during the matches!!

Even during the England match last night, which had considerably less of the damn things than other matches, it was still drowning out the real atmosphere of a football match. I could barely hear any singing from the terraces, no football chants, not even the England band. France are already blaming the vuvuzelas for their poor performance as they couldn't hear each other over them (yeah I know, crappy excuse, almost as bad as grey shirts )

The fact that it's being discussed at all shows there must be some issues with them.

I had watched both the South Africa match and the England match, and gone away with a headache in both of them purely because of those Vuvuzelas. It should be banned, not only is it alienating every single team other then Africa but it is also disrupting commentary over the box and every other thing. I am usually fine with hearing chants and drums and all that, but this constant "buzzing" noise is down right ridiculous.

In terms of the game, I was quite surprised on rooney's performance, I was really thinking the USA would attack him more and try and get him booked etc. Since really Rooney' is quite a landmark within the entire team.

I am shocked at Phillips, to put it in as little words possible. I think he is a fool.
No benefit to the team, at all.

Serbia vs Ghana
Ghana took 2nd place in the African Cup this year, however Serbia do have some class. I would also got 2-1 to Serbia.

Germany vs Australia
Germany win 1-0, albeit uninspiring. The way I see Germany is that they'll progress through the stages in a fashion that we won't even see them coming, until realise they're in the quarter finals and say to ourselves, how did they get there?!

Rooney, I thought, improved over the game. The second half he was much better and had a couple of good chances, but he's better played up front with someone like Gerrard behind him.

Wright-Phillips is a frustrating player. Like his Dad he plays his heart out for his country and runs at players a lot, but never seems to get that great final ball in, not for England anyway. Saying that, that seemed to be the biggest issue for England last night. Some good build up play at times let down by a gods awful final ball in.

At this time Serbia - Ghana already finished, so my poll for it wouldn't be fair

BUT... still 1 hour and a half for the start of Germany - Australia, so here I go... I'd say 2-0... I guess Australia's quality must have improved somehow, otherwise this wouldn't be their 3rd World Cup in a row, and Germany might feel Ballack's loss, but as Lineker said, "football is a sport on which play 11 vs. 11 and always win the Germans" (more or less, it's the Spanish translation of the sentence, maybe the original one is a bit different).

Btw... being Spanish and watching so many people thinking we are favourites makes me blush ... Tbh, every single World or Euro Cup Spain has been considered this way, but always happened something, a referee, a failed block, a failed penalty... this time I really think we can do it (crossing fingers with a hand while holding a horseshoe in the other ).

After today I'm strengthend in my believe that Germany will take the Cup. I still hold out hope for a Spain - Netherlands finale though. Poor Australia, they got played completely to bits by a far superior Germany. I see the Aussies doing a lot better in their next matches though.

Serbia ... that was just horrible. Deserved win for a good Ghana.

What was that other match again? I think I fell asleep during it.

The Germans were very impressive. But perhaps that was partially because I only got to see the highlights rather than watch the whole game. Seemed to be the first team so far that has managed to have complete control over the ball.

Germany did indeed look pretty good - but the Australians helped an awful lot. I can't imagine the Ghanaians and Serbians giving them that much space and time. I may be quite mad, but I fancy Ghana to settle down after that win and to win the Group. England will still win their group on goal difference, and thus satisy the Keepers of Sod's Law, setting themselves up to go out to Germany on penalties in the second round.

Shocked at how many seats were empty for the japan game. Their first world cup game which they actually WIN and a large of their own seats were empty . . . . . . . poor showing on the japan support.

That being said, i love it when a team goes all out in the last few minutes knowing its all or nothing Nothing more tense than that!

Well the united/chelsea CL final penalty shootout was way more tense but you get what i mean

Yea, that sucked. I hate the game the Swiss played, but it's hard to argue with its effectiveness.

Well, unless you're Danish and undo your tactic by scoring an owngoal

So england kicks off in less than 45 minutes, predictions as to the excuses today?

[bet the irish are loving france losing atm]

Only seen the starting 11 and not the subs but i think today just going to be a walkover for england for some reason.

Im going for an ambitious 5 - 1 to england
