Anyone notice all mobs now run into melee?

I think I17 has brought with it a major bug where all AI critters are trying to melee you - even if they don't have any melee attacks!

From Rikti Drones to Hellion and Skulls lieutenants and Mastermind ranged pets, they are all obsessed with charging in. When will this be fixed?

Yes, it has been noticed.

The next patch fixes it

Patch notes for build 1800.201005212331.1T

COMBINED

Powers

General
  • Fixed a bug that caused many critters with ranged attacks to change behavior and prefer melee range, including Rikti Drones and most Mastermind pets. Critters should behave as they used to again.

Which means scattering wildly and running away from melee to the furthest corners of the map even when they have 90% health remaining.

well...not to bring reality into a superhero game, but if you have a gun, ya may want to shoot someone with it, rather than whomp them in the head with it. it still is better than in champs, those guys run to different zip codes, my ma framework guy weeps openly fighting a lot of their groups.

What if you run out of ammo? Granted, that doesn't happen in this game (to PC or NPC alike) but the point still stands. If you have a gun, but no ammo, you have an improvised club!

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

Or better yet use a bayonet.

That's kind of why I thought it was a good thing. I realise it's unrealistic, but I'll trade realism for gameplay any day. It's very rare that I've told myself "Boy, this game sucks, but I guess it makes sense so it's OK." Much more often, I tell myself "This... Makes no sense! But I guess if they did what made sense, the game would really suck, so oh well!"

I always come back to the Succubus demon women from the original Diablo. They'd spam Blood Star from range REALLY quickly, and then run away from you as soon as you approach them. Because they ran as fast as you do, you could never catch them, as they would never stop to shoot as long as you chased them. As soon as you stopped chasing them, they'd stop running and shoot at you. This one single aspect of the ENTIRE game pissed me off so much I still remember it like it was yesterday and I STILL feel like punching things when I think about it. Yes, it made sense for ranged enemies to run away and shoot from range. It's also about the WORST enemy in any game I've ever played.

hey, i play mostly scrapper and brutes, im with you in spirit, just saying that guns do make sense for shooting. as i said, rian in co feels a heck of a lot weaker than rian in coh.despite having a fairly similar power structure, and part of it is that the enemies tend to scatter on me and i cant throw my good cone abilities and just bowl them over, whereas here people love to mob rian and get that nice little flapjack effect when i leg-sweep everyone.

And this is why my catchphrase when I played my Rogue was;
"Run from THIS, b****!"

Yes, and it's been glorious for tanking.

I was wondering why my Bots/TA's drones were running into melee so hanged much. Very, VERY annoying to have this ability to glue everything in place, and it not mean a frellin' thing. I'd drag them back, they'd either ignore me totally or stay put about 3 seconds. Hadn't played that character in a while, thought it was just the usual pet stupidity I had forgotten.

As far as NPCs go, they may run into melee even without attacks, but they certainly turn tail and take off just like they always have. It's not like this bug has been beneficial.

The Council Marksmen still sit back at a safe range.

... *bursts into tears*

No, you go and get more ammo...

You throw your gun at Superman. It doesn't work, but they try it every time.

Rikti Chief Mentalists do too. If you approach to melee they might pull their swords, like they always have, but otherwise they're perfectly content to stand back and spam Dominate at you.

You beat me to it. That is just so dumb, but yeah, they do it all the time. "Bullets didn't hurt you, but maybe this 2-3 lb. blunt piece of steel will!"

I watched romulus do this yesterday. He did literally start running to the entrance of the map. Luckily he got aggroed before he could get out of his area.

Well, if throwing guns at him were so harmless, then why does he always try to dodge the gun when he doesn't flinch at the bullets? That's because of the little-known fact that Superman's REAL crippling weakness is tossed guns. Now if someone could develop a gun that tossed guns, we're all screwed.

It's cos he has hard capped lethal, but not smashing.

Good point! Brings back to mind all those comic debates about "If Thor is bulletproof, why does he spin them away with his hammer? Or Wonder Woman block them with her bracelets?"

At least with Wonder Woman, it's been demonstrated a number of times that she's just as vulnerable to bullets as normal humans if she doesn't block them with her bracelets, which were originally (like those worn by the other Amazons) forged from 'amazonium', which is magically indestructible, and later (the other Amazons being downgraded to wearing ordinary steel bracelets) having been forged from Zeus' aegis. There was at least one depiction in her comic series where she injured herself by 'blocking' bullets while not wearing her bracelets, and injuring her wrists in the process.

Yes, I noticed it and loved the Rikti Drones coming within melee range of my scrapper. They fixed it though.

What I was really wondering if people have noticed melee attacks are not firing when trying to hit a fleeing foe, much like years ago. My scrapper is bumping into the foes backs and nothing happens until he gets a little ahead of them. Either that or they pause for a half a second to go around an object but even then it does not always fire even though it is obvious to me he is well within melee range.
