Therefore the reason that Reichsman rises to power is that that dimension's Spock does not prevent Kirk and/or McCoy from saving Keeler. The proper line of inquiry clearly should be focused on that dimension's Spock!
Does he have a goatee? Goatees are evil, you know.

Is Mr. No Pants happy to find out he's Iocasta's first husband?

No, see, 'cause he's a 'young man' who you ordered to your room, like a mom would, and...

Yeah, it was funnier in my head. Can I plead finals week as an excuse?

It must be noted that it is Irrefutable Proof that a Parallel Universe Double that has a goatee will be Evil.

Which always made me wonder why neither Tyrant nor Reichsman has one. I mean, come on.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

I think Cole has very scraggly and thin facial hair.
He's very bothered by this and doesn't want anyone to know (In most dimensions, that is).

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Zombie Marcus Cole.

He could be like... some kind of Lich Lord.

Eh... that's been done before.

"This Marcus Cole, from an alternate dimension, was a rogue and a mercenary who was exposed to mustard gas during World War I."

Around October 1918 Hitler was blinded by a mustard gas attack.

I can easily imagine a finely crafted backstory for Reichsman which centred around how Marcus Cole had heroically stepped in to prevent a young Hitler from the effects of the same gas attack. Perhaps he handed the young soldier his own gas mask for arguments sake. This led to those two individuals having very different lives from their counterparts on Primal Earth.

The self-sacrificing act which Hitler witnessed might have made him a more compassionate individual not interested in ruling the world, and Marcus Cole found the Well of the Furies as a result, drank the waters there and became Incarnate. With such raw power, and seeing how his sacrifice wasn't rewarded, he became Reichsman.

That's my guess anyways.

Hitler also worked within the Education Department of the army and his task here was to lecture returning soldiers on the dangers of communism, socialism and pacifism. Senior officers were impressed with Hitler's skills as a speaker. It was at this time that the corporal, who was a loner, discovered his greatest talent - public oratory. The gas attack Hitler had suffered had affected his vocal chords and he spoke in a manner that few had heard before. Many who later heard Hitler speak at public rallies claimed that his voice had hypnotic qualities to it.
I found this quote from a wiki about Hilter, building on your idea, if Cole did save Hitler from his gas attack, Hilter may never have discovered his ability as a orator. If Cole and Hitler became friends, I could see Cole becoming the front man for Hitlers Nazi party.

This... may not be far from the truth. During the Freedom Phalanx novel, his beloved Monica is dying. Without her, even with a daughter and grandaughter, he considers retiring and maybe even leaving the Earth and humanity behind (they intimate in the novel they know of other worlds/races at this point).

Richter is a German name. If Monica or her father decided that the Nazi party had the right idea (remember folks didn't know all the horrible stuff 'til later) how hard do you think it would have been for Monica to convince him that it was the right idea?

At that time in his life he had a certain... moral ambiguity... that would have had him supporting the Nazi's just as easily as becoming a hero... for Monica's sake.

Also, maybe Stephan didn't drink from the well in this reality. He would have stayed at Marcus' side, if just to ride Cole's coat-tails to power. In this reality, he was a sympathizer to the Axis cause (Fascism, but Arachnos wasn't really picky, they just started in Italy). How hard would it have been, seeing as how the betrayal never took place in this scenario, for Stephan to convince Marcus they were the way to go?

There's a number of different avenues that would have made it easy for that younger, more amoral, Marcus Cole to choose a different path.

EDIT: Oh! Necroed thread? I didn't notice 'til after I posted. However, I think it's an interesting conversation, and hadn't seen this thread before I don't think...
