Player Discussion on How to Resolve Unsolicited Advertisements in the Forums
A new spam thread is up lets all agree not to post in it so it'll slide down the page.

Holy poop that went away quick!
How about.... only allow trial accounts to post new threads in the player questions board.

A good spam filter would be nice. If they could contract the guy who developed Google's spam filter, that would be awesome. It would probably also be moderately expensive.

for a minor game system like email I don't see it being a smart way to invest limited resources.
I guess their approach to the problem is sub optimal from the viewpoint of someone who uses email alot, but it dealt with the issue quite effectively from a resource standpoint.

She has provided them with no new knowledge...these guys circumvent filters for a living you know.

2. Just because they make a living at getting around filters doesn't mean we should assume that they are already aware of the work around.
3. She could have told him via PM.
1. I haven't received a single email spam since the filter went active and I turned mine on. I went from getting 20-30 a day to zero. That tells me that they aren't aware of it, because if they were I'd still be getting the spam.

Also, telling him via PM doesn't tell the other people reading this thread (legitimate players or no) about that fact.
And honestly, I'm hoping they start using the global mail for spam. Then the devs have to realize that their filtering is subpar at best.

I have stated the fact, and I have seen others state the fact, that global mail circumvents the character->character email filter a large number of times since I17 went into open beta. In fact, it might even be on ParagonWiki, but I'm too lazy to look. If it's not, it should be, since it's a tidbit that a very large number of players are not aware of.

No offense Agge cuz I honestly have a lot of respect for you but in this case I'd prefer keeping a muzzle on the spam for as long as possible. This is one of the few instances where I think a little ignorance is bliss.
Which is why I favor the use of nuclear warheads to be detonated far enough above the country to create a massive Electro Magnetic Pulse which will fry every civilian computer in the country and eliminate both the RMT industry and their banking financial records.

I'm fairly certain you won't be able to convince the military to nuke China so that you don't have to put up with RMT spammers.

I wonder if we could use RMT to pay off the national debt...
Good non-linear thinking! Although in an interesting circular fashion.
I vote we put LISAR in the legislature next time!
Dec out.
Why do you say that?
I can go by a Bootleg of Avatar for $5 bucks, cost 5 times that to get it at Target. Just because the shady internet site selling cheap influ in large chunks doesn't mean the customer wouldn't pay twice as much for half the amount if that influence was being sold in the same place we buy server transfers, renames and respecs. |
Currently prices are regulated by the fact that you have to earn the influence you're spending (among other factors). Whether it be by farming, lucky drops, or playing the market, there is an investment involved that would not exist if you could just swipe a credit card and max out your in-game money. People are more careful about how much they spend if they worked for the money they're spending, when all you did was put in your credit card information the amount you spend is less important to you.
For a real life example, look at how many lottery winners go broke within a decade of winning. From their perspective it's basically free money, so they think nothing of dropping ludicrous sums of cash on ridiculous things, and living well beyond their sustainable means (meaning they can afford to live like that only for as long as the money lasts, and then lose everything when it runs out) A millionaire who earned their money doesn't generally blow it needlessly, especially since you don't become a millionaire in the first place if you're stupid about what you spend it on.

Let the mods handle it.
Also I'm fine with the restrictions put in place for email.
And no, it did not gimp email. That's just silly.

The ability to block email to friends only was a totally impractical waste of time that didn't work as well as the very simple solution of limiting e-mails per day, which actually did work.
Every time somebody suggested it, I would have said that it would merely make email useless to some and unreliable to more, and that the devs were way too reasonable to implement such a solution with far more efficient, effective, and uncomplicated (I.E. not bringing up the question of which of the many types of communication lists should be included) options, that is if I cared enough to post about it.
There might be some use to it if there were any reason for the request other than spam, but I've yet to hear of anybody who wanted it for any other reason.
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!
1) Report it.
2) Ignore it (the mental activity of "ignoring" something, not a technical Ignore function).
Same as the emails, etc. back in the day.
My scrapper doesn't need an AoE. She IS an AoE.
Guess what's just popped up again
