Performance drop after 5/4/10 patch
Try updating your graphics drivers (Intel 965 Express)
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm
They are the most recent drivers, I even reinstalled them to make sure
Getting the same thing, I was playing fine last night but now I am crashing constently. I have the lastest drivers and everything so its not that. Is your computer happen to be a Toshiba by any chance?
edit: did not read all the info, it is not a Toshiba, lol
They are the most recent drivers, I even reinstalled them to make sure

We'll see....
I believe that you may have reinstalled them and they are the latest drivers, but sadly your machine isn't reporting them correctly. Something with your drivers is working incorrectly.
As you can see from the bolded yellow above, your drivers are reporting an incorrect date. This generally indicates an issue with your drivers. Not always, but 9 times out of 10. |
the most recent drivers were released in march 09, and they are dated 26/02/2009
I can't even get into COH, it keeps saying my fire wall is on or it's maintenance.

I went to the Intel site, the driver version for her card and system, Vista/965 chipset (7.15.10.1666) is the most current.
1. Update Vista Windows.
2. Go to your computer's or motherboard manufacturer's web site and see if there is a driver update for your motherboard/CPU chipset.
3. Please post the results of HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

Since today's patch, CoH has increased in RAM usage going from 600-800MB to 1.3GB of RAM even with the graphic settings at the bare minimum.
And it switches its CPU priority to Below Normal which clearly is a bad thing.
It always switches to Below Normal priority if you have another window in focus. Toggle the "always on top" switch on the task monitor and then switch back to the game, you will see the priority go back to Normal.

"1.3 GB of RAM at the bare minimum."
I have 2 GB of RAM on an oooooold machine.
This cannot be good.

But your CohHelper report doesn't have the Shader settings... it doesn't have any of the graphical settings. Is that because CohHelper didn't provide it, or because you edited them out? If you edited them out, please post the full CohHelper report.
Furthermore, I run at 1.3 GB of RAM on a 2 GB machine all the time without a fps hit. So, that is not necessarily your problem with fps.

Well, something is weird here. Running at 1.3 GB of RAM is normal at the highest Shader settings.

Again, I hope you updated Windows.
And you have *a lot* of programs and services running in the background. You might want to try the solution given here below and see how your computer behaves running the game with all those programs/services disabled.

Look Zombie Man,
The problem with i17 is that i17 consumes more CPU than i16.
When I was running i16 CoX on dual dualcore system, maximum CPU utilization on one of cores was 70-80%. Since i17 release it consumes 100% even with lower gfx settings, which makes game unplayable.
And no, I'm not running Ultra Mode, in fact I'm lowered gfx settings way below that I had in i16. It didn't help.
Something that devs introduced or changed in i17 demands much more CPU. If it is related to Ultra Mode, then their claim that Ultra Mode wouldn't affect players who aren't using it is false, and they should come clean about this. If something else causes higher CPU utilization, then we need ability to turn it off, or minimum (or not so minimum) system requirements should be changed.
In any event, i'm strongly suspect that multiple reports we seeing regarding lag, mapserve, ventrilo and Skype problems are related to 100 or near 100% CPU utilization caused by i17.

It is undoubtedly using more CPU than i16.
What I'm seeing is that people are posting about problems they are having since the patch. Nobody is really arguing that i17 may have introduced some issues with higher ram and/or cpu usage.
If you think something is wrong with the game code and that's all you want to report, at this point, /bug it or contact Tech Support.
Most of the people offering suggestions on this and other threads are just trying to help you run your game more efficiently and with fewer issues. They can't change the game code for you - just help you make what you have work better.
It's frustrating that the system requirements do appear to be higher even though Ultra Mode was said to be "optional" - so report as much information as you can (there are suggested formats for that kind of reporting on other threads started by rednames) about your system specs and as many details about the problem as possible. If someone asks you for clarification on something or makes suggestions, they aren't saying that you aren't having problems or that the game hasn't created some of the issues, they are just trying to help.
Just my two cents.
Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm ...
I am having the same issue with the game. Before the patch on 5/4/2010 came out I could play the CoH fine. Now with this update I am crashing every 15-35 min in the game. In my opinion the Devs r morons same **** happened when CoV came out seems they cant update without causing more issues then the ones they say they fixed. Best bet is wait till they pull their head outa their ***

Storm
Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm ...
not calling names just saying they need to get better programmers and also get rid of the open GL they used to format the game coding (open GL is crap) also am working with devs on phone atm and they agree building the game with open GL coding was a very bad idea. But it was the only was to make the game run upon its first release. Now they are trying to change coding while game is up and running which anyone knows is a huge feat to do i.e. iss 17 so yes we all need to wait till they figure out how to solve this problem many of us seem to be experiancing.

The huge difference between machines besides the usual suspects of hardware configurations and drivers is all the other background programs, and you've got a truckload of them, which is always recommended against by everyone remotely connected and in-the-know with regard to running any highly graphical intensive programs on a computer. CoH's own minimum requirements don't have an footnote that says, "Including machines that run 40 processes running in the background." And if you have 40 processes running the background and CoH won't work for you, you can't say, "It's all CoH's fault," without first taking them out of the equation.
And the next line in this argument is likely to be, "But I had these 40 processes running before this patch!" And the answer to that is, "You were lucky." There's no assurance that CoH will run concurrently with any other process that's not needed for the operating system or for the game itself.
And if it's discovered that the new coding in this patch conflicts with something running in the background, then who's fault is that? Did the CoH Devs do something wrong, or is it the fault of the programmers of that other process who have faulty code, only there just never happened to be a conflict beforehand?
It's well known that some of the graphical problems are on the side of the GPU manufacturers and faulty drivers. It's why driver updates sometimes clears up problems... it wasn't CoH's fault at all. If in a new patch, the code makes a call to a graphical FX that's supposed to be there, but the driver's coding is screwed up and doesn't handle it right, it would seem that the new patch is at fault, when, in fact, it's the driver's manufacturer's fault.
We've already discovered software conflicts with I17: ATI Hotkey Poller; MSE; and some others. It's anyone's guess which programs are the one making the illegal codes at this point.
If you don't want to try to see if it's a software conflict, then you're the one who may never have CoH ever playing right on your computer again.

Well you are right the devs just made a game and every comp is different but i have ran though the driver updates and even reformatted my hard drive still same issues. I would like to say for those who do not do the steps the devs and fellow gamers say you'r SOL sry to say that but the only way to solve something is to listen to those who have more experiance than you do. But with that said when you have done all the devs told you and listened to other gamers advice and still no fix then yes it is ncsoft's responsibility to solve this (this is a company and we r paying for service) at the same time CoH does use high graphics demand and for those who have an intel graphics card well ur SOL according to the devs intel has a lot of problems my recommendation is if u have an intel graphics card go get a new one ATI, Radeon, Nvidia. This has solved most issues with game. GL for those who are working to solve this and TY for those who are trying to help.
Before the patch, CoH ran fine despite using low-medium settings on this system
