Performance drop after 5/4/10 patch
I am in the same boat u r and from what the tech guys told me they are working to make CoH intel compatible but its still far from perfect i have an intel integrated card (rly bad for any game lol) but its all i have you could try going to widows xp instead of vista or win 7 that seems to solve a few of the issues although it is very time consuming.
Well, that very well may be the case, but it very well may not be the case. And what your experiencing is *not* hard and fast proof there's a problem on the Dev's side of things. Because what you're experiencing is *not* what everyone else is experiencing. If it was all a problem of CoH coding, everyone would have the same problem, and they don't.
The huge difference between machines besides the usual suspects of hardware configurations and drivers is all the other background programs, and you've got a truckload of them, which is always recommended against by everyone remotely connected and in-the-know with regard to running any highly graphical intensive programs on a computer. CoH's own minimum requirements don't have an footnote that says, "Including machines that run 40 processes running in the background." And if you have 40 processes running the background and CoH won't work for you, you can't say, "It's all CoH's fault," without first taking them out of the equation. And the next line in this argument is likely to be, "But I had these 40 processes running before this patch!" And the answer to that is, "You were lucky." There's no assurance that CoH will run concurrently with any other process that's not needed for the operating system or for the game itself. And if it's discovered that the new coding in this patch conflicts with something running in the background, then who's fault is that? Did the CoH Devs do something wrong, or is it the fault of the programmers of that other process who have faulty code, only there just never happened to be a conflict beforehand? It's well known that some of the graphical problems are on the side of the GPU manufacturers and faulty drivers. It's why driver updates sometimes clears up problems... it wasn't CoH's fault at all. If in a new patch, the code makes a call to a graphical FX that's supposed to be there, but the driver's coding is screwed up and doesn't handle it right, it would seem that the new patch is at fault, when, in fact, it's the driver's manufacturer's fault. We've already discovered software conflicts with I17: ATI Hotkey Poller; MSE; and some others. It's anyone's guess which programs are the one making the illegal codes at this point. If you don't want to try to see if it's a software conflict, then you're the one who may never have CoH ever playing right on your computer again. |
ok all i found something that solved my issue a bit of coding that the devs gave me but very case sensitive follow directions to letter.
1. right click on CoH/Cov shortcut
2. click on properties
3. click on shortcut tab at top
4. go to target window "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"
5. after the last " press space bar once
6. enter following code exactly -useTexEnvCombine
7. click on apply then ok.
8. right click on CoH run as admin.
Solved my crash issues might solve ur GL

To be honest NordBlast is correct in pointing out the false statement that the devs said about not effecting the players game with ultra mode. The drivers for intel, to my knowledge where working perfectly fine until this patch. Meaning that the patch itself changed something so that the majority of intel users cannot play anymore. This statement is proven by the number of fourm post that were posted all claming issues and 90 percent of them had a intel driver. See I am no computer junkie, but this seems like pretty soild truth to what NordBlast was saying. Yes some people need to update thier drivers but the issues is the majorty of people that were playing this game before the patch, cannot anymore and where promised that nothing would happen to people's ability to play the game. That is the issue at hand, and the devs need to understand this and fix this.

While obviously something has changed, it is likely that the problems truly are the fault of Intel and the updates have simply exposed them much more harshly to the light of day. It's unfortunate that Intel hasn't really updated it's graphics hardware and drivers to efficiently and attractively handle online games, but there you have it. From a quick glance at the system requirements of some of the mmo's I play, very few, if any, games specify that they support Intel graphics - most only specifically mention nvidia and ATI Radeon. As frustrating as it may be, there's only just so much that developers can do when the manufacturer doesn't improve their product.
Also, while the devs statement of backwards compatibility may now appear to be incorrect, I highly doubt that they deliberately deceived anyone or that the crappy graphics that Intel adapter users are getting is in any way purposeful or deliberate. It pains me to read some of the angry posts which are basically accusing the development team of lying to them and cheating them out of something. They are aware of the issues with the Intel graphics and are working on alleviating what they can - but some of these problems do rest squarely on the shoulders of Intel.

Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm ...
I'm having the same exact problem. Before the latest patch, the game was running perfectly. Now, after the patch, unless I lower all graphics settings to the "crap" setting, I can't play.
I used to play with decent settings. Not maxed out, but certainly not low. Game performance has had a massive drop after the latest patch.
Here's my CoHhelper data.

Well you're behind a service pack on your Windows for starters and it could pay to update your video drivers. See here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...fessional/Home for the latest available for your card. Your sound drivers are also pretty old though it's less likely they are part of the problem. See: http://support.creative.com/Products...T=CategoryID:1 for new ones.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
Smash try the coding if that doesn't work then try calling tech support better to talk to them over the phone they might have more coding to solve ur issue

Well, updating the drivers fixed the performance issues, but I still have to put my settings slightly lower than they were before. Though it still seems odd that my game stability was just fine until the patch.

In my case, I'd have to buy a whole new laptop to go with it as it can't be upgraded
