Consolidated Base Concerns, 5/2010

Wonderful list! To expand on a couple things:

Base Usage Wishlist

Training Rooms: Besides the standard targetable training dumies, the main purpose of these rooms is Safe Combat Simulation. They can be equipped with holographic emitters or illusion spells that can simulate enemy critters of any type, which only exist in that Training Room. This is a useful tool for testing certain powers or damage types against particular enemies. These critters can be set to the various pet stances: passive, defensive or aggressive, depending on the nature of your training goals.

- To unlock a critter for training, a member in SG mode must defeat that critter a certain number of times; let's say 100 for Minions, Lieutenants and Bosses; and 30 for specific Elite Bosses, Archvillains, Monsters, and Giant Monsters. A device called a Threat Simulator can then summon one or more critters of that specific type, a full spawn from a particular faction, or a random assortment of unlocked critters at a specified threat level. Defeating these critters offers no rewards, and being defeated by them incurs no debt. If a character is defeated by them, the enemies despawn and the character resurrects. The first tier device allows only one character at a time, and is restricted to Minions and Lieutenants. The second tier device allows up to a full eight person team, and also allows the use of Bosses and Elite Bosses. Finally the third tier device allows the use of multiple teams, and provides the option of summoning Archvillains, Monsters and Giant Monsters.

- Another device called a Power Simulator allows a character to use a Training Build. It is a third character build that can only be used while in the Training Room, and can be respecced at will from the Power Simulator. In conjunction with the Threat Simulator, it can be used to test certain powers or to fine-tune a particular build. Once you get it right, you can then respec your character or switch your build, as normal.
SG Missions: The Mission Computer assigns SG Missions, similar to the radio and newspaper. These missions are selected randomly from a list, and may optionally be based on a theme (such as type of mission or favored enemy) chosen by the group's Leaders. For example, one SG chooses all rescue missions because they dedicate themselves to protecting the innocent. Another SG's missions all involve Technology based enemy factions, because they stand for preventing the abuse of advanced technology. SG Missions grant no inf or drops; instead their rewards are 100% Prestige.

Crisis Monitor: Supergroups with this Control Aux device in their base gain access to a Contact similar to the Police Scanner. This device pops open a window that provides up-to-date status on zone events and giant monster activity. Every active zone event and currently spawned GM is tracked here in real-time, so that a character who missed an event channel message (for example they logged in after the message was broadcast, or were busy fighting) can be aware of its presence while it is still ongoing. (Except Sally, because nobody thinks she's real.) The Villain version is called the Anarchy Monitor, and each version lists only the events and GMs active within its associated faction. This device is unlocked for crafting once members in SG mode have obtained all of the GM and Zone Event related badges.

Base Building Wishlist

- Per-item settings for Locked and Translucent states. These effects apply only in base edit mode, not in regular base viewing.
- A Locked item can not be selected, preventing it from being accidentally altered or moved. Once an item has been set to Locked, you have to Unlock it individually from a basewide list.
- A Translucent item gains 90% transparency, allowing you to see through it to whatever is behind it.
- Using Locked and Translucent together on already placed items allows a character to more easily add new items, without having to undo or redo previous efforts.
- The ability to save room styles to locally stored files, and load them on a per room basis. Includes an option to set a default style, so that newly created rooms will automatically match a consistent base theme.

Fantastic list Impish Kat! My SGmates have been talking about a number of these issues. Most notably base storage. The 18 storage unit / base max is ridiculous and he 30 item per unit cap is equally unrealistic. The 18 unit / base max should expand as the group invests in a bigger plot. The # items per unit could expand if SG earns some kind of TARDIS technology to make the units "bigger on the inside."

I'd LOVE to see all the fixes and wishes listed here come true... but would be even better if they end up as rewards for completing new SG TFs.

I have a gripe with the size of Rooms

Workshop: theres a 2x2 Room that holds 9 storage. Theres a 4x3 room that holds 9 storage. The small room is too small and the large room is too big. Can we get something in the middle? Can we get more sizes? different sizes?

Teleport: The progression is telporter rooms hold 1,2,3,4,4,8....the room sizes are 2, 2x2, 3x3, 4x3, 4x4, 5x5. The only rooms that work right as far as teleporters go is the 2 and 2x2 room. The rest of the rooms are too large and the progression is off. More sizes please. 8 tpers in a room is fine, but 25 squares is too much.

Medbay: 2x2 is too large for a single Rez ring. can we get a 2 square room like the Telporter room that only holds 1 teleporter?

Energy: 2 rooms, different costs, hold exactly the same amount of 'stuff'.

The 18 storage item limit has always stuck in my craw. If the devs should decide to link base size to the storage bins, I think the number should *start* at about 25, and go up five per base size. And the salvage bins should hold at least 100 to put them in line with the other bins.

I mean, what else is there to do with all that room? Right now my SG has a huge base that is mostly empty and unused except for the teleport room and the personal storage rooms. A giant power supply sits in a giant power room with vague plans to 'get around' to decorating it. But even if we do spruce it up, nobody will go in it. We're all in the storage/crafting rooms.

I just want new stuff to play with. I edit probably 50% of the time I am in game. I have created/designed probably 20-25 bases for friends.

Can I have new pretties.. PLEASE?!?!?!

(I have actually completely given up on the devs ever actually putting any time into the base system... which is truly sad imo).

Great list! Only one thing in SG Wishlist that I have seen on other threads that I haven't seen here: Offline SG Invites for one's own alts. It's kinda silly to hafta have somebody else do your inviting for you, and impossible to do when you run a solo SG for just your main and alts.

But other than that you seem to have got everything, even some stuff that I had never thought of/heard of.

Heh... it's there, 3rd item under "Supergroup Flaws":

It's hard to set security limits if you can't demote offline/hidden members. Promoting/inviting offline members would be useful, too.
Just worded a little more "generically".

ok. well thx again for consolidating the list!

Base Entrance doors that actually exist as doors somewhere in the game. Yup, a mission door that works as a base front door, too. And either have a matching door in the Base Entranceway, or have a new entranceway room with a door.

Oh, I remembered!

DOORWAYS WITH BUILT-IN STAIRS OR RAMPS. AND ESCALATORS. AND MOVING WALKWAYS.

Someone mentioned "the good old days" when you couldn't have base items within 10 feet of a door. What happens if one room has a high floor and the other a low one? Does everyone just jump or fall eight feet from room to room? We're super heroes, not barbarians! We were not raised in barns like some trademarked corporate super hero who shall remain nameless!

Have 3 doorway "rooms" in the create room portion of the editor. One is the current style, one is Stair Doorway, the other is Ramp Doorway. The last two have selectable styles once you place them. Arcane/stone stairs vs. steel stairs and Plain vs shiny ramps. Even if you just re-use the current ramps and stairs and don't make cool windy or curvy sparkly, glowing stairs.

You could even make the doorways tube shaped, or arched - double arched even! And if you allowed doorways to attach to doorways... the mind boggles! In a good way, I mean.

Of course you'd have to add railings to stairs to conform to OSHA standards, but still! Easy-peasy, right?

Love it.

Love almost all of the things that so many people would just be giggling over. I've always been a "builder" by nature and bases could be SO cool, entertaining and TIME-intensive (hint, Devs).

Sad thing is that I don't believe we'll ever see any of it. (

I am not sure if this thread is still going, I am not a big forum gal. I agree with your post concerning all things sg/vg. I would like to add that I REALLY would like a demote while offline feature. I do not know why leaders are not dropping the star when they are offline for 15 or whatever days anymore. I would like to be able to demote my inactive leaders if needed. I would also like to see a feature to where we can hang pictures of sg members in the base. That would be awesome. Some letters would be nice for walls too. I love your NPC idea, though I would love to see holograms of certain vg members in my base or statues too, would be sweet. My mac is having some issues now days too, while I am in base edit, its hard to see which items are on the selection because its all fuzzy or showing two items at once. It is very annoying.

The largest issue that I have right now is why isnt there a limit to how much prestige someone can buy? I realize that the top 100 list is not very important to a lot of players. I also know that the top 10 especially is a big joke to many because everyone says that the top ones are a buying war. I would love to see a limit set on how much prestige can be bought for a VG/SG per day. With as cheap as base items are these days, this should not be an issue. For example, if it was about 100k per day allowed, this would still help new bases while preserving the 'joke' that the top 10 can be. Right now there is a buying war for #1. It is making me less proud of the amount of prestige that my VG's have earned. If a limit was placed on how much prestige per day a sg could buy, then maybe eventually there would be some pride in the status a vg has earned.

Um, the reason there's no limit is that the exchange rate is so horrid that very very few people actually buy prestige.

Additionally, having huge amounts of prestige over the amount you need for your base is mechanically useless.

Or are you really basing you self-worth on what other people do?

I must say this is well written and thus only have a few items that I wish to add.

Super Group
It would be nice if you could cut chat to a single person that wishs to be a problem. Much the same way that a person can have their permission removed in a Chat channel in the game.
Demotion and promotion should not require that the person's toon has to be on the game for this to happen.

Base Usage
Given what it takes to get the badge to make combat logs why not allow it to make meduim level insperations.
I was very happy that the silver mantis TF was related as a base only task force. it gave a reason for others to come and see your base and to also be a member

Base Building
OK I see items all over the game (just watch what a controller can throw at a enemy), statues, slot machines, forklifts ect., but they are not in base options to place or make.

I hope this adds some new ideas that the devs will look into.......
but all we can do is hope

Please consider adding the following once Going Rogue has gone live:

Bases/SGs/Quarters for Praetorians.
Improved Vigilante/Rogue "tourist" travel via bases.
Changes to "limbo" status upon switching sides (ability for an entire SG/VG to switch and keep their stuff)... especially for soloists
Cross factional hero/villain bases (I know that's a controversial topic but it bears mentioning).

[Edit add: I'll bet you will receive additional feedback on lowering the difficulty and raising the rewards of the "new" Cathedral of Pain too but I'll leave those concerns to be addressed by others with greater experience/expertise.]

I'd like to see a feature that lets us put the Neighborhood Map Markers in each room on the map, so we can label them. It would make it easier for others who are using your base or if you are using someone elses. It would be great to look at a complicated bases map and be like "Oh! There are the teleporters!"

Problem #1
The Devs do not publicly engage the Base Building community in ANY fashion whatsoever. AT ALL. There is no dialogue between players and Devs on any base issues of any kind. None. The last Dev post in this forum, by Sunstorm, was how long ago? Since then ... not even static ... just pure silence.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

That is a discussion for another thread.

Very nice list i wish they would allow more salvage racks or vaults that have more room.

I am at moment sitting with max an still do not have nearly enough room.

I am also kinda shocked they did not add more beacons with going rogue.

Would also be helpful if they added a computer so you could accesses auction house while in your base.

I looked and didn't see it mentioned, but I'd like to add these to the Base Building Wishlist...

Bottoms/backs to items, it's extremely annoying to place an item overhead/away from a wall and it to be either invisible or to have the majority of the object missing.

Merge. When multiples of the same object has been stacked or placed together (cabinets, desks, etc.), allow us to merge those objects so that they can be moved as one object. (Imp, I think you mentioned being able to move items together like a desk with stuff on it, I'd like to see it more robust than that.)

Flora without pots/planters, and ones that are low profile ie nearly flush with the floor. Plants that are wall hangers and free-hanging.

Along with everything else I have mentioned (if in fact I have posted here) I would like to have a larger size of Workroom. Doesn't need to hold more stuff. Just think it would be nice to have a bigger work space to play in.

Enjoy your day please.
