Slow Field water effect messed up in Ultra

The effect of creating water with Slow Fields is no messed up in Ultra Mode.

The surface is pixelated and looks dirty. The old way looked much better.

Are you using Nvidia or ATI card?

Nvidia 9400 GT 1 GB

Water outside the base looks awesome...it's just hte slow fields that are messed up.

And I just spent time trying to tweak the settings.

If you want to keep the particles in base, you cannot turn Character quality to low, or it messes up global particles (the slow fields disappear).

Shame to hear as I just purchased 7 slow fields!

Did you see how they look floating? Are you having the same issue?

Havent had the chance to look yet sorry, stuck in the office for an hour and 45 minutes yet@

Seems odd.

I was under the impression that Ultra Mode wasn't going to affect anything in bases or regular instanced missions.

Though I just saw in another thread that someone was having difficulty in base edit mode. The pictures of items in the editor are all blanked out, and his lighting settings have been reset to default.

The Slow Fields have the Ultra Mode reflection upgrades.

However, there is a pixelated ugly texture present now in the fields in addition.

It's... not pretty.

I've had one of those since last summer on one of my Scrappers. I can't even recall what mission it is or where I got it. I just keep it for a giggle, heh.

As for the slow fields, I've not noticed the "dirty" look on them myself. I've seen a few people seeming very stoked in the BBI channel as well as the Guardian global channels, but here is the first place I've run into mention of the issue. I guess the people I've seen today either can't run UM at full to notice it, or its minor enough to them to be not worth mentioning. I'll have to hop into my bases to check the pools again, see if I notice something...

Anyone else notice that the crystals are now super neon bright, and there are reflections on the arcane TPers' metal filigree?

The green crystals are just painful to look at.

I've been sending bug reports on all of these since day 3 of closed beta. They never once even made the "known issues". I also saw all of these posted in the bug report threads all through closed beta.

It takes a lot to make me feel bitter, but this is doing it.

Yeah, I noticed the green crystals look bad now. In addition, the SG logo glass things that people use for windows are now darker. Another thing I noticed is that the "beaker stand" from the tabletop items now has beakers on it. I liked it for what it was before because I was using it for a grill surface in my kitchens.

Least the new slow fields have given me an idea for an Ice Skating Rink...no ><

What? GAH! I missed that one! I use those to make ladders in my live bases!

RAGE!

The housings for the control runes on the 3rd tier arcane forge have the same problem as the arcane teleporters. Manticore's Bow and Circle of Thorns Weapons are bright red. And the Slow Field looks the same with Radeon or GeForce.

I suspect some of this is WAI and someone's idea of what "looks good". The slow field is afterall a slow field not a water sheet. Beaker racks are supposed hold beakers. Even Manticore's bow, CoT weapons and porter/forge trim might be by design.

But I can't explain away those green crystals though. They are just plain hideous now (and the whole world knows by now I'm not an interior designer). It'll be interesting to see what change (if any) comes of this.

Lighting in bases seems to have been adjusted as well, and I'm not talking about Ambient Occlusion. Things which looked a certain way (certain sides were shaded, for instance) now look different (a different side is now shaded) when no actual change has been made.

It's possible the "bright green" crystals have something to do with this.

Why not just ADD alternate items, then? Seems like it would have taken the same amount of effort as it took to change them. All they would have needed to do was copy the existing art, then add what they wanted and call it a new thing... leaving the original alone.

I used the empty beaker stands as "sushi plates" on my sushi bar, as well as "truss" for hanging spotlights around my dancefloor.

Typical of them to "give" us something we never asked for.

Not to mention that all the costume changes should have pointed out the wisdom to this already.

That's a common bug with newspaper/police band missions that are active when a new issue comes out. The Boss gets genericed, and the enemy group and level gets changed; sometimes even to a group that isn't supposed to exist in game like Siren's Ghosts. Which can be awkward when your level 20 guy shows up and finds his mission full of Storm Elementals.

It looks like glitchy, pixelated textures that are poorly overlayed on each other, but then are individually trying to be water, but reflecting in wrong directions and refracting things that aren't even in the room.

Even if it's an energy field, big pixels are not WAI. Ever.

What you are saying makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. [Edit add: I'm at a loss how some of this escaped the beta process then as you mentioned.]

I had the same thing happen on test while I was using an ATI 5570. The Water effect looked very dark, so what I did was lower the water effect to low and it looked normal again. I have since traded that card for a 9800 gt and it looks fine on all modes.

Hope this helps
