Brand new player, one simple question!

I LOVE being new and helpless and completely lost and confused xD Its a rare phase that never lasts too long, and is always something to look back on fondly.

So its my first night playing, and Im trying to keep it simple as I stagger about the game trying to figure things out.

Is it possible to swing your view around so you can see the front of your character? Thats...my only question xD So far anyway!

Yes it is, simply hold page up and swing away!

Weclome to City of Heroes, Emmierose!! Have some bacon!!

You can also hold down the right mouse button, and rotate the camera with it. That takes a pretty steady hand to keep from messing with your Vertical angle...

If you find you've moved your Vertical angle, you can reset it by targeting something, pressing [F] to Follow, and while running towards it, press [B] to enter First Person Mode, then immediatly pressing [B] again to leave First Person Mode.

Holding the center mouse button (if you have one) will also allow you to rotate the view around.

Unless, like every other *normal* person in the world (not looking in Panzerwaffen's direction at all) you've already re-mapped the middle mouse button to a function you might actually USE MORE THAN ONCE A YEAR.

*cough* sorry, and thanks.

I use it once in a while, especially if I am using a tank and happen to pull a bunch of foes into a corner. I'll swing the camera around to face my front as I'm attacking them so I can actually see what's going on instead of being crammed in the corner behind my toon and just seeing large blurs of auras and powers going off. It's quite useful.

I use that function all the time, but that's because I like seeing my superhero being dramatic...

My main is an AR/EM blaster. Wouldn't be any fun without the mouse button for epic Full-Auto cam spins!

Doesn't the Home key also work?

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill

Home only resets your horizontal angle. Only zoning or following something in first-person view will reset Vert.

In another thread, I even came up with a bind trick that will reset Vert for you at the touch of a button:

Make sure you have any object/player/foe targeted, and press KEY.

Note: There is no need to press the key twice. The release of the key re-runs the command again which automatically stops following and returns you back to third person view. The trick works the same whether you are standing still, walking, running, jumping, or even flying.
As long as you have a target, your view will instantly reset to camera-origin when you press KEY.

Welcome to the game! It's very hard to give NO advice to a new, excited, player so I'll restrict myself to this one, harmless, spoiler:

The door where you come out of the train is not the same door you use to go into the train. In other words, you can't just turn around and click it to go to another station.

... yeah, it took me a while to figure that out once.

You just saved him an embarrassing moment.
I still recall the laughs when I broadcast, "Whats wrong with the trains? This gate hasn't closed in forever and I can't click on it..."

Only thing that made me feel like more of a noob was putting a slot in brawl on my 1st baster, Doh!

I use this frequently to let me see around corners, or to survey large battles on melee characters without having the system keep snapping my view back on every attack.

I too use this feature constantly to get an accurate survey of the carnage. Do you use a mouse with more than 3 buttons on it like I do?
