New Travel Power - Parkour
I know this sounds kind of like Ninja Run however there are a few differences.
1. you would not have to purchase the booster pack to get it.
2. It is able to take Enhancements
3. It is a powerset made up of 4 powers not just a single power
4. it would be faster than Ninja Run and allow you to jump a bit farther.
I have used the Ninja Run power however my two biggest problems with Ninja run is that it is not enhanceable and that you do not have the option to be in the ninja run stance or not while it is activated. Also I think the other powers in this set would be a benefit as well especially to scrappers, stalkers and brutes.

That's not a very good goal to be aiming for since it pretty much says, "Ha ha, fooled you!" to anyone who bought the pack for Ninja Run. Why bother buying stuff when they just turn around and give better things for free?

You're asking for something that we'll never get. Two words:
Environment. Interaction.
Parkour is lovely until you realize that they're interacting with the walls, railings and other bits and pieces to move them around. You can't have our characters using this because there are far too many surfaces around Paragon/Rogue Isles to make it work. You'd be trying to backflip off of the air and it would probably be successful!
While I wish our engine would allow us to work with the environment, I can't say that it will for a long, long time. Probably never. Anything below this is just Ninja Run, and I object to giving it to players when those who paid for such a nice power have something like that.

Remember. The characters are presented to the world as bubbles. There is no direct animation to object interaction through the game. This is why whenever you click on objects you get a basic hand animation on the cursor, but don't actually touch the object. This is also why your attacks always animate the same way, and don't change animations even if your target is larger than you (common with the Tuatha) or smaller than you (common with the RedCaps).
One-to-One element interaction is extremely processor intensive. This is why most games only have generic interactions with objects in the world. Games like Assassin's Creed, Mirror's Edge, and Prince of Persia also spend a huge amount of their development budget on creating interactive environments, and the systems worked for a couple reasons.
First, these system only had to worry about one player controlled avatar with a static size and skeletal frame. The developers did not have to account for 3 different skeletal structures and a scaling size frame.
Second, these systems only had to worry about a largely single player experience. There's a difference between having to organize a game environment for a single player, and having to organize a game environment for hundreds of players needing to communicate all system data through an internet connection.
These computation problems basically mean that one to one environmental actions won't occur in CoH for several more years, and when, or if it happens, there will be two caveats.
Players will need a dedicated processor for physics. With OpenCL this isn't such a big problem as an older graphics card or CPU processing core could be tasked with handling the physics calculations alone.
Players will also need a much faster network connection, which means that companies like AT&T will have to stop spending money on keeping the Iphone exclusive and start spending money on upgrading their Internet Backbone infrastructure. Companies like Comcast will also need to stop paying people to cut off other companies internet connections and spend that money on new equipment as well.
So in other words it would be like Ninja Run, but better and free?

Ninja Run is an interesting idea, but I also feel it's incredibly damning to the game. An actual, real travel power in an actual, real power pool that does a lot of the same would be great for the game, but since Ninja Run is in the game, that'll be a tough choice to make.
I'd consider such a travel power to be worth adding just the same. Yes, it doesn't cost money, but it costs power picks. It's also slottable. It's up to the player to decide which he wants. In fact, if we ever do get different selectable stances, this one will still be superior because it'd let you pick your own stance, whereas Ninja Run will ALWAYS mandate the ninja run style.
As far as environment interaction goes, I don't think it's necessary. The point of this power is to give you a way to hop from rooftop to rooftop without leaping over several buildings on the way. The point is for it to be in Kings Row what Combat Jumping is in Cap Au Diable. A power that lets you run relatively fast on the ground and jump high in the air. It probably won't be the best travel power, but I dare say it would be a lot of fun to have nevertheless.

I would like to see the ability to grab the side of buildings, trees, high walls.

The reason I suggest this is because I know what something as simple as being able to cling to walls has done for games, such as Ninja Gaiden or the MegaMan series. It gives people an extra edge in mobility without actually overpowering them too much.
If we MUST give acrobatic users an edge, then let regular clinging to walls either time out (and drop you) after a couple of seconds like you get in Aquaria out of the water, or have it slide you down like it does in MegaMan, with better abilities allowing you to stick longer or wall-jump higher. In fact, such a skill could give a basic jumper the ability to stay out of melee if he sticks to a way and shoots from there.

I'm tempted to toss a /jranger into this thread as well...I seem to be doing that a lot lately.
Ah well. Maybe I'm just losing the will to function. And inflicting pain is much more fun, anyway
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I whipped up a quick vid of what a Parkour travel power would look like here.

I may have gone over this before, but it's kind of like the Assemble the Team power vs. Recall Friend. One is paid for (kind of) and has its limitations, the other is free monetarily, but costs a power choice and comes with other benefits. I, for one, think there is room for a travel power that's halfway between Super Jump and Super Speed.

Hence the jranger. Because what is being asked for is probably not going to happen, by dint of being so close to in-game as we can get that it makes no difference. Da? =P

I just wish we could turn the 'hunched over constantly' stance off...
Thats the only thing preventing me from buying it at present.

OK, I keep seeing the term "Parkour" being suggested as a travel power.
I think I am getting the general idea of what it might be, but can someone definitely tell me what exactly it is and where it came from? I mean, the other travel powers are pretty straightforward - fly, jump, teleport, superspeed (run really really fast). But Parkour means nothing to me when I think of ways to move around.

Parkour (sometimes also abbreviated to PK) or l'art du déplacement (English: the art of moving) is the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one's path by adapting one's movements to the environment. It is a non-competitive, physical discipline of French origin in which participants run along a route, attempting to negotiate obstacles in the most efficient way possible

Just because of current limitations (whether in software, hardware, resources, whatever) doesn't mean we should shoot an idea down. There's some cool ideas here. I would love to be able to have some of my alts use this.
Power up!

Thanks, Clebstein & khyrin!
Those of you lobbying for Parkour as a travel power might want to keep in mind that there some of us out there who never heard of this before, and therefore might want to explain it a bit next time it comes up (because we all know that once this thread dies down and moves to page 15 or so, someone will bring it up in a new thread).
I'm betting that SCR applies as to whether the stuff in the YouTube video can even be done with our game engine anyway.

This is impossible anywhere else, not consistently in any sense. Even Kings Row, which is as dense as buildings get in City of Heroes, still has streets that are far too wide to even consider jumping. As such, a power that gave us run speed enough to feel like we're running (and, really, Sprint + Swift seems like enough for me) as well as enough jumping prowess to just about clear a regular Paragon City street, rooftop-to-rooftop would do as a pretty decent travel power, as far as I'm concerned. It's not really GREAT in terms of actual distance covered, and it'll probably be the least useful of all the travel powers, but I'd still take it for the characters that had a use for that concept.

For six years we have had the same four travel powers. Superspeed, Superjump, Fly, and Teleport. I think it is time we get a new travel power set. I would like to suggest Parkour as the next travel power. What makes this travel power different from the others is that you will have vertical movement which you do not get in Superspeed and you will get horizontal movement speed which you do not really get in superjump. Plus what would really be cool is a stance option to be on all fours when travelling with this power. Have cat like movement. Plus Superspeed is about running real fast around obstacles. Superjump is about bounding over them. This powerset is about moving real fast amongst the obstacles not around them or way over them. Moving with fluid movement to overcome obstacles.
Yes... I know if you purchase the Martial Arts Super Booster pack you get Ninja Run however it is only one power and it is not enhanceable. I suggest the following powers for the Parkour Travel Power.
Backflip - You have trained yourself to move in a fluid manner. You are able from a stand still position to backflip and kick your enemy click melee attack smashing/lethal secondary is knockback
Displacement - The art of Parkour is the art of displacement. You are skilled at evading attacks by not being where they occur. Toggle +run +jump +Defense +stealth *this is the equivalent of combat jumping as far as defense bonus it would give a minor boost to run and jump and would give a similar stealth bonus as superspeed.
Free Running - You are an expert at moving quickly in unconventional ways around obstacles. Toggle +runspeed +Jump the animation for this would be like prince of persia or assassin's creed movement among rooftops.
Tumble - Tumble is a distance attack in which you can launch yourself at an enemy curling into a ball and tumble at them with great force. Similar to Shield Charge or Lightening Rod attacks.
