Discussion: More Going Rogue Updates - Demon Summoning
Oh, I hadn't realized there were 2 other new power sets. That's good then. I still don't like the demon summoning stuff though. As one poster mentioned, the whole demon thing is over done. And, while I acknowledge there are SOME magic based comic books, I'll make my point again that the ratio is very low. I know most of us can name a dozen comic book heroes off the tops of our heads, with maybe 2 of them being magic based.
I'll learn to cope. But if one more person tries to read my tarot cards in game again, I'm gonna scream. :P
I wonder if they're going to redefine Infernal's powers with the new Demon Summoning critters.

Well, not everywhere - we'll have to wait for GR before the MMs are dancing under the Atlas globe

People who pre-purchase GR, are supposed to get [Edit:] oops... never mind. see my mea culpa below.
7. I can only see the minions and the LTs. every time the take a pan around the pets all I can see is 3 minions and 2 pets that look exactly the same so i am guessing there LTs.

The little guy - horns straight to the side.
big guy with tusks or horns downward from the side of the head.
big guy with horns upward from the head.
The bigger ones all have shorter horns coming up out of their shoulder blades.
I don't see 2 of either of the bigger types in scene at the same time to tell us which is the tier 2.

They do show all 3:
a small one with horns out to the side
the big summoned one with horns forward (tusk-style)
the large one with horns pointed up
I would've liked a smaller/narrower head and smaller horns for the minions; head makes them look like the Vet cosmetic pets, IMO
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

Is it just me, or does the demon summoner in that picture have a new hairdo? o.O I really hope she does, and that it means more are coming as well.

Well, of the four new power sets in GR, they've added Dual Pistols - a tech/natural based set - Demon Summoning - a magic based set - and Kinetic Melee and Eletric Control - both of which are pretty neutral regarding their source. So I think that's an ok scale of new magic stuff being added to the game. |

Or because you have to stop what you are doing, read it and answer yes or no?
Yes, That can get old.
Just warn people you don't want Mystic Fortunes.

Readies Tarot Cards
Fun fact: Our current incarnation of playing cards is actually based on the Minor Arcana of the Tarot Deck, meaning that most of us are 4-suit, fortune reading heathens anyway. Some card games are direct descendants of Tarot divination and any other card games are derivatives of those (or teach divination in their own right). So Gambit is a magician as well as a mutant.
Demons/Magic/Fantasy in comics is somewhat of a misnomer; even if the characters themselves aren't powered by [myth and] magic, that doesn't mean that they aren't influenced by its existence :
Apocalypse and his Four Horseman
The Norse Pantheon in Marvel
The Greek Pantheon in DC
Merfolk (Namor, Aquaman and their people)
Wonder Woman
Isis
The Darkness
Witchblade
Vampirella
Lady Death
Death
Evil Ernie
Lucifer (Dark Horse)
Doctor Strange
Dormammu
Spawn
Angela
Warrior Nun Araela
Lord Mandarin
Gentleman Ghost
Hellboy (and ilk)
Mephisto
Evangeline
That's just off the top of my head; there's tons more [or its more common] once you venture out of Marvel comics
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

Blind invites are worse; they expect an answer... same with SGIs. And I get hit with more promptless, random buffs (SBs, Armors, etc.) than Tarot buffs. No effective way to warn off a server full of players that you don't want a buff-and-run.

...seven elemental demons--Fiery Demonling, Cold Demonling, Hellfire Demonling, Ember Demon, Hellfire Gargoyle, Demon Prince, and Living Hellfire |
Summon Demonlings is the easiest since there are three Demonlings on the list. And the Summon Demon Prince obviously summons the Demon Prince.
But the rest are confusing. Does the Summon Demon power summon the Ember Demon and the Hellfire Gargoyle? Or is the Hellfire Gargoyle something else? And where does the Living Hellfire come in? Will it pop up in the Hell on Earth power?
So many questions! I can't wait to try out this set!
Oh and I really like that hellfire in this set is a combo of fire and toxic damage. That sounds good to me.
I'm hoping that if you decide to turn your villain to blue-side ... that the demons turn into something appropriately heroic.
I just can't see a hero using demons...

Your character could be a redeemer on a quest to save souls. Maybe that character likes the idea of using evil demons for the purpose redemption. Or maybe he/she's trying to redeem the demons themselves?
Another idea is a character who is a cowboy who wrangles demons and then uses them to help people.
Or maybe summoning demon-like entities and fire whips is that character's mutant superpower and they decide to use those powers for good.
Personally, I'm going to make a DS/Poison character who has spent his life studying the secrets of alchemy (including using potions to summon demons). It's a concept that can work as a hero, villain or somewhere in between. I haven't decided which way I'll go yet.
I can think of a few heroic Demon Summoning concepts:

- A mutant with the power to open doors between dimensions.
- A reformed sorcerer who now uses his/her powers for good.
- A scientist who has developed a portable device that opens dimensional apertures.
- An escaped denizen of hell on the path to redemption.
All of these have appeared in various comics, anime, etc...the only limit to how this set will work with your concepts is your imagination.
My level 50 Dominators:
Madame Mindbender 50 Mind/Energy
Fly Agaric 50 Plant/Thorn
Nate Nitro 50 Fire/Psi

Not all heroes are White Knights.
All I am saying is that I hope in future expansions we see some more true blue super hero stuff added, rather than magical powers, magical monsters, etc. If I wanted fantasy powers or to fight fantasy monsters, I'd go play any number of the myriad fantasy MMOs, a few of which do already have demon summoning classes.
Otherwise, the class looks cool, and I'm sure many people will enjoy playing it. It's just not my idea of a good addition to a super hero themed MMO. I very much enjoy the dual pistols class (very Punisher like), and I am looking forward to the graphics update, which I believe will breath new life into the dated graphics.
So I think that's an ok scale of new magic stuff being added to the game.
