Inf sink idea: Statues!

I can't find the thread now, but a few weeks ago in the market forum we were discussing ways to destroy inf to help slow inflation. I posted one idea that i figured I'd share here.

The Devs should, as a QoL feature, open up for level 50's the ability to "buy" a statue of themselves in Atlas Park for 500M. HOLD ON...

Now, the problem immediately arises when thousands of level 50's start buying statue plots, so what I would propose is something trickier.

One podium, and it only shows YOU... YOUR character. No one else's. You and your friend could both buy the plot, and you'd both only see your own character. It's all handled locally. Anyone under level 50 or who hadn't paid for the plot would only see a blank spot, "waiting" for them.

What do you guys think?

As for a villain equivalent.. i dunno, a huge WANTED poster?

EDIT: changed 500K to 500M. I hit the wrong letter >_<

I suggested a while ago the ability to purchase statues for your lvl 50 characters to place in your SG base. I do like your client-side only view idea. As for the "villain equivalent" of only posters? No. If you're going to offer statues to blue side, then offer them to red as well.

Hmm, very nice idea. Would like to see happen.

If not outside, I wonder if something like a hall of heroes (or villain equivalent) could be set up inside AP City Hall or GV building. This hall would be like the contacts in the AE buildings. From what I can tell there, when I pick an arc, the contact appears to me and the team members, but not to other players, who are running their arcs and seeing their contacts.
I wonder if statues could be like that in that there would be a group of them - yours you paid for, and then fillers either as random or other peoples. So this way you can see your statue, and others will see yours at some point as the fillers.
(no computer experience so just tossing out some thoughts)

You and a THOUSAND OTHER PEOPLE on your server. Let that sink in for a second. Do YOU want to see ONE THOUSAND STATUES everywhere? No.

I didn't know if that was thematically appropriate. I don't see too many statues of "great villains" around the R.I., and I'm not 100% sure Lord Recluse would allow such a project.

i like the way this idea is going. it is something that would require probably the least amount of work to implement. there would be no need for new buildings or anything. put up a couple of the generic contacts from the AE and have a table next to each that brings up a list of heroes/villians and as you choose which to view the contact changes to that hero/villian.

figure 250 mil to put up your hero/villian. and for each additional costume another 75 mil. when a person looks at your hero/villian it shows one of your costumes at random or maybe even the current costume your are using.

I have a feeling that this is what helped kill the old "legends" idea the Devs had (not entirely, but a part of it). however, for half a billion Inf, I agree that it should be something that not just you see. For something that just you see, the price should be lower by several orders of magnitude.

However, along the same lines, how about:
For a hundred mil, a statue of you that places in the SG (as someone else said).

For 5 mil (plus a monthly "rental" fee) your character name is placed in a constant rotation where citizens regularly talk about how cool you are all over the city (or how evil on the red side) like they do in proximity to you about your latest missions now.

For 10 mil plus a monthly upkeep, the newsies do it as well.

For 50 mil plus upkeep you go into a billboard rotation (shades of the old ad system) [yes, you will see it and other's won't but they will eventually because it's in the rotation].

And for 2 billion plus 2 billion a month, a statue in front of Wentworths (okay, I'm not serious about that one).

Okay then: 2 Billion, 5 million/month upkeep for that. That would cut down the number dramatically.

Or 50 million, 100k/month for a statue in the group base.

Be able to purchase a spot in one of the ICON/Facemaker buildings as a model. Rotate the images weekly.

That would still open up the need for more than one spot that the devs would have to program in. That's a problem i would wish to avoid, no matter what.

I like the "icon rotation" idea, though. Half those costumes are horrid anyway!

It is appropriate. There are statues of other villains in the Rogue Isles. Check out Grandville. Recluse and the "big 4" all have statues there.

Maybe there doesn't need to be giant statues. Yeah, a thousand+ giant, giant statues would be oh so daft.

But an archive of City Heroes, maybe? Or, even better; in Founders Falls, a lot of the bridges and suchnot have angel statues on them. Simply replace them with Hero statues? The 'Heroes Bridge' and suchnot.

If the problem is competition, maybe the solution is to make it a competition?

Set up charity kiosks in Atlas Park and Galaxy City. Set up five holographic statue plinths in each. Heroes can donate inf at the kiosks, maybe getting "good" points in return if you have GR. The game tracks who has given how much inf this month, and the top five philanthropists are represented in statue form. Perhaps set up a minimum "bid" to enter the running, if you want to make sure lots of inf gets spent. If your statue is up, you can interact with the statue base to set it to wear your current costume and choose from a list of poses.

For villains, I'm not sure. A reward for providing funds to the Greater Good of Arachnos, maybe?

Knights Exemplar: Wolfram, Autumnfox, Starlit Spirit.
Militia: The Portent, Wavekite, Mr. Sandman.
The Cadre: WarpLocke, Zajin.
Numerous others.

I like this...You could do a "Hero of The Month" Competition. First month is the charity drive. At the end of the month a statue is erected in the winner's honor. A new charity drive starts and at the end of the month the old statue is brought down and the new winner's would be put in its place....

I kind of like merging these ideas together, with big WANTED posters showing some top villains and rotating regularly, with the option of your own face showing in the majority of your own client view. Alternatively, you could have your villain or hero appear on either side in an Arachnos/Longbow recruitment/wanted posters and billboards, as appropriate to the side it appears on. It could be especially awesome in PVP zones, walking into RV and seeing that Arachnos wants THIS HERO, DEAD OR ALIVE.

With a little tweaking, this could be the next little morsel of awesome.

i still like the merit behind this idea.

for Villains, you get featured on Arachnos recruitment posters and Wanted posters

"I want YOU
to come work for the reincarnated mortal shell of a death god and his army of spiders"

Further, if there are thematic issues with statues in the Rogue Isles, I'd propose the following:

Lord Recluse has established a new program that incorporates holographic 3D projectors to display his most wanted enemies. These projectors (developed by Dr. Aeon, of course) are distributed throughout the isles, and cycle through various wanted criminals at the rate of one criminal every 5 minutes. The projector displays the criminal as a massive image, 5 stories tall, in graphic detail, with a reward over his or her head. The image spins slowly so that everyone can get a good look.

Villains can sink their influence into getting onto this "holoprojection" list.

Handily, using a single holoprojection site that cycles through villain images uses less physical real estate than thousands of statues.

I don't particularly see a reason for anything other than a low, one-time fee for a base item. You're buying it for private display, after all.

Public... eh. I've never been enamored of the idea, especially given some of the names/costumes I've seen around. >.< Throw in an option to turn off the statue locally, though, so I don't need to see a 50' 'satins asasin angle' and I wouldn't care how much INF anyone chose to throw at it.

Edit: Side benefit/additional problem - the City Vault's need to access character records, if I recall correctly, was the reason it never saw the light of day (or, rather, the massive load problems it caused in doing so was.) So either that could be a problem with this - or, conversely, if it worked for this, the same method might be applicable to a revived City Vault.

umm...helloooo....has anyone even bothered looking at this sugestion or is everyone just stuck on damn giant statues?

M_B: i think this is more to your liking? it would provide a way to view heroes/villians but would not intrude in the rest of the game.

Stuck on giant damn statues (I just gave it a quick skim, after all.)

It'd work for my "opt out" request, yes. Not sure how anyone interested in using the idea would react, though.

sorry M_B, i know you weren't stuck on giant statues. that part was directed at the others who seem to think that giant statues are the only way to sink monies. i think the mix of my idea and penny's is probably the best route as it is something that you(generic) do not have to look at if you do not want to and you(generic) can choose which hero/villian to look at.

I think that is a good proposal too. With potentially thousands of statues that could be added, something more streamlined to a specific area would be better. Plus you know you will be able to see your statue.

Great idea you guys had! My tweaks:

I'd have the PPD start a Public Appreciation program. They would place a holo-emitter outside City Hall and Freedom Corps HQ, and possibly another outside each PPD building, which would each project a life-sized hologram of one hero at a time. To get on the list, a hero must be level 40 or higher and pay the appropriate cost and upkeep in influence. (Additional surcharges will apply for multiple costumes.)

The hero currently on display is selected randomly from the most recent list, and when the list is exhausted it updates to include newly added heroes and starts over. Also, at any time a character can access the terminal and open a search window, looking up any hero by name. However looking up a hero is strictly client-side viewing, to prevent "glory hogging"; public viewing is limited to random cycling.

The PPD would also start a Public Awareness program, where they place large monitors randomly displaying life-sized representations of their most wanted villains. (Citizens are reminded not to approach these dangerous criminals, but instead to call the toll-free tipline and leave an anonymous message.) In fact, I'd have both of these displays side-by-side at each location in Paragon City.

The Rogue Isles have their own programs. There, Arachnos (possibly under the cover of the RIP) celebrates the villains with life-size holograms through their Power and Glory program, and their Priority Target program displays heroes on large monitors. (A hero or villain need only pay their "application fee" once, and they are added to both lists. All that changes between sides are the display methods.)
