Why not water control?

I know electric control is coming but I was really hoping for a water control set. I know this has been suggested so many times but It would be a really great addition. I made up a slight idea of it. Idk I just was really hoping for that in the new issue . I tried to make a build for it last night but It didn't come out like a planned.

Water Grasp- Standard one person immo. Pool of water forms around the targets feet.

Sphere- A water bubble forms around the person holding them in place using them hover animation while in the bubble to show that they are held.

Water wave (Bad name)- a wave of water washes over the targets feet and leaves a pool of water that keeps the targets in place.

Drown- A small bubble forms over the targets head. It shows the choking animation, giving the target a sleep effect. If attacked the water gets falls off. When it wears off it leaves a chance for a fear effect.

Tidal Wave- A large wave appears over the mob splashing down with a knock back effect while leaving a fear effect when it hits.

Artic water- Slows the targets movement, and their attack speed.

Hot spring- a small gush of water shoots from the ground showering your teamates adding regen and also breaks status effects.

Water geyser- Player stomps making water shoot from the ground knocking people up while also giving a minor distort.

(Can't think of a name)- Most likely a mass water sphere hold.

Atlantean summon- Summon a creator from Atlantis with some of the same control powers.

Yeah I know this is a pretty bad idea and it has been asked before but I was really hoping for a water powerset. This is just something I came up out of boredom. I'm hoping I don't get flamed to horribly. :/

Basically a long time ago the devs tried to make water powers but they looked absolutely horrible in the CoX engine. So we got Ice powers to fill a similar conceptual niche and Energy Blast filling a similar graphical style in a way that actually looks decent.

EDIT: Sharker is correct, Energy Blast was also done in part because water blast couldn't be done right, I've editerd my post to reflect that.

no they turned it into energy blast. and yes, ice control is frozen water.

How 'bout a water set based off the leviathan powers - you could just shoot the water or "fluid" from your mouth ... Spit Blaster set ?

(That would be pretty gross).

Water is a pretty hefty task when it comes to designing it in games and it's hard for it to turn out well, as Adeon said.

For a good alternative colour Radiation Blast blue and it works really well

Well I know the water sphere can be done by using a dark shade of the force field bubble can't it?

Personally, I always thought that Energy Blast looked like a Water Blast set (I arrived at the end of Issue 4), and then I found out that it had indeed been Water Blast prior to launch. But then I dont have any problem calling an Energy Blaster a Water Blaster. Heck, if they can RP character Origins on Virtue; I can RP Power Sets on Guardian.

Besides, I would darn near defy anyone make a 'great' looking Water Blast. I really dont think that Water Blasts (water cannons, etc) look enough like Water Blasts in real life, but that's just me. I am picky. But I will also accept something that looks 'close'... perhaps that's why I am not a Dev?

Water is one of the hardest things to model in 3D. Most devs don't bother, or have to build the whole game around it.

water set could be made from throwing together a lot of existing powers

force fields could be like water if colored right

barracuda and calystix have a "wave of cold" power, which looks like they punch what looks like a wall of water at you

some of the energy blasts with the right coloring could look like water

i mean the water doesnt have to have full 3D effects for it to be called water and such

There's a dev quote floating around (no pun intended) that Electric Control is being worked on, no further details or dates.

And I'd rather not see a mix-and-match effects powerset, might as well just wait and see if they advance Power Customisation any further.

Nah, water doesn't hurt. Slpoosh!! *I'm melting!!! Meeeeellllttiiiiing!!!! OOH What a world!!!*

Some of the Cold Domination powers could look like Water powers.

where you read that?

They said it in one of their posts idk lol. It's being worked on. I'm not really excited about it. I'll be really upset if they just reused the pet from electric blast.

From what I gathered, someone at herocon asked about it, since there's the Mu powers that immob/hold, and the answer sounded very positive. I don't know the whole story, someone that went to herocon would know more than I.

So if the engine can't handle Water control, or water powers in general, and it can't handle grappling and stretching and a host of others. What can they do about it? Can the "engine" be upgraded. Do we not get some powers because we can't? I don't like those types of responses from the Devs, but I do understand them. If it can't do it, it can't. So maybe we move on, and by that I mean COH/COV 2. Is that even feasible?

And since Synapse isn't a Powers guy, I wouldn't count on him being in the loop on new sets.

As with anything, it's less a matter of whether it's possible to do it, and more a matter of what the payoff is. Should they spend thousands of hours on the reengineering of the hit box system to allow for grappling? Should they spend the time to come up with excellent looking water animations? That depends on whether or not the OTHER things they can do with that time would make more people happy and whether it would be more broadly useful.

I dont for a moment think it's at the point where it would pay off better to start a whole new game.

You know, the only people I ever see mention a CoX2 are Players. And I dont even think it is on the minds of the Devs. With the Issue System, and the Expansions so far. I'm not seeing any 'need' for a CoH2 even on the distant horizon. Just so someone can throw a rope with a hook? Or play Greco-Roman rasslin'? Meh.

The Devs upgrade Powers and mechanics on the fly and over time. At least that is why I dont see that there will be a CoX2 at least for a long while, if ever. A dynamic game is better IMHO than one that needs to be dropped in order to make a completely new game. I am sure others that have followed MMOs even more closely than I can explain why. I would fall back on the EQ/EQII story. Dividing your playerbase isnt the best of both worlds. If it works; fine. If not; youre hosed. And killing off an MMO in favor of the NEW MMO; is just as liable to cause a mass case of 'why bother' in your subscribership.

And as far as Water-based Powers and graphics. I say give it time. As mentioned before; we had a Water Blast Set, and I am of the opinion that we will probably have one in the future. As soon as the Devs are satisfied with it. Probably another VidCard Standardization upgrade or two, or when 'most' players will have made the migration to better VidCards that will handle more advanced and better looking graphics. Which puts it at sometime after the present worldwide economic downturn turns the corner, and people can afford it in larger numbers.
