Why can't we pre-order "Full" Going Rogue?

I will definitely be buying the Full version, not just the expansion (free month of game time and the item pack makes it a great value), but I don't understand why they are not offering a preorder for it? Seems strange to me.

I would be willing to pre-purchase the complete edition. I am still going to pre-purchase what is offered, and upgrade with the online stuff purchase, but I would like to have it all at once.

We can't upgrade to the other editions, once we pre purchase the basic one to begin with?

We can. It will be like a booster pack offered the day it goes live. Just no 1 month free of play.

Hmmm...Dual Pistols/Demon Summoning Early...or 1 month of free game time...*weighs the options*...okay, I can live with the loss of 1 month free time.

You pay $30 without a free month and $40 with a free month. You pay an extra $10 but save $5. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it

Frankly I consider this whole preorder scenario to be maybe one notch more convoluted than it really had to be.
But if the Devs want to make us play this shell game I guess I can put up with it.

Yes, that argument is going to convince all the min/maxers who play this game not to worry about spending an extra $5.

Hmm...I can still get an extra 0.19 endurance reduction if I drop another 200 million on this purple IO...

I'm not sure what the thinking was behind the decision. I'm still on the fence about pre-ordering; leaning towards not doing it and just waiting. We'll see what happens when the dates get closer.

Because the Olympic Steering Committee forbids it.

Also, you can pre-ORDER the Complete Edition. Doing so guarantees you a space in Closed Beta. You can't, however, pre-PURCHASE the Complete Edition.

Will buying the box set for GR, come with CoH/CoV free? I hope so! I'd love to get my hands on an updated copy up to GR, for reinstalling purposes.

From a distribution point of view it'd probably be easier for the retail installation disk of GR to be a complete image of the entire game (CoH + CoV + GR) than just a 'patch' for GR, especially considering they are saying you need to have the base game to play with GR anyway.

Let's just say buying a new retail disk with just the patch of GR on it would be far less useful to anyone for any reason. *shrugs*

To answer the OP, you can pre-order GR.

You cannot pre-Purchase it and get early access to the new powersets.

Pre-order just puts it on hold for you, guaranteeing you get it the day it comes out.

Pre-Purchase costs full price now. Get your code now so you get early access to the new powersets.

Well gods forbid this thing be instantly intuitive rather than having to think about which option is the 'better' option for 30 seconds. Just saying it seems like the Devs went out of their way to make something that should have been incredibly trivial as convoluted as realistically possible.

In another thread this came up and I wrote:

Quote:
Retailers are very sensitive about vendors that create channel conflict. That's where a product is offered via retail but the producer offers a deal that undercuts the retailers. The retailers' sales are then hurt and they're pissed because when you're dealing with brick and mortar stores, every product sitting on the shelf is taking space that could have gone to another (potentially better selling) product.

Typically the result of that type of situation is retaliation. So if the COH GR box was available at a juicy discounted price direct from NCsoft, they'd find that Gamestop would suddenly be unwilling to give catalog space to NCsoft titles, charged more for end cap promos, ordered less, and put product in less prominent shelving than they did in the past. And not just for CoH, but all NCsoft titles. There are lots of ways to retaliate and the repercussions can last for years.

So NCsoft has to tread carefully by offering a preorder that has enough appeal to generate substantial revenue but not sabotage retail sales.

This is not an easy decision for NCsoft because they make a LOT more on a $30 direct sale than a $40 retail sale. You typically give up about 40% to retailers on wholesale, then there's the cost of shipping and manufacturing. So NCSoft can easily make 50% more on a $30 direct sale than a $40 retail sale. Do you think they want to leave that money on the table? Eventually they'll offer the full GR via direct order, but not so soon that it could jeopardize their retail partner relationships.
This may or may not be accurate, but it's my best guess.

Seeing as how I want early access and want the up to date disk of GR...looks like NCSoft will be getting extra money from me!

I'm sure I won't be the only other like this, but will probably be the minority.

I want the CD copy so I'll just wait until that's out and get that. I have enough alts for the time being, dont need to roll a DP, although would love to test a Demon Summoning and seems there wont be a beta for that.

Perhaps that's the easiest explanation for this level of "complication".
They're probably hoping enough people choose to double-pay to make it worth all this silliness.

I think the logic goes a bit more like this:

If we want to bring new players, the box must include the full game, not just the expansion.

Players of the game may feel cheated if forced to pay for it all, so we will offere them an expansion only version.

We cant confuse new buyers at the store so the expansion only will be download only.

Since Downloads dont really "run out", we get no preorders, but we need preorders to have a good idea of how well the sales are going, so lets encourage players that want to buy the expansion with a powerset headstart.

The goodies in the box should be enough to convince box-audience to just pre-order.

Some people may still want the box goodies so lets also sell those separatedly on the store.

They did seem to have missed the people that may want the CD, Goodies AND headstart.

I don't think so. I found the original announcement to be straightforward.

Pre-purchase with no free month and you'll get early access due to it being through their store (and so tied into the game). Pre-order through a retail outlet and no early access goodies, but you get the usual free month cause its a stand-alone box. Later, if you pre-purchased, you can pick up the goodies in a separate transaction just like they've done in the past. Easy peasy.

I'm sure they'll be delighted with extra money though.

What am I missing? I can't find any information on what exactly the "GR Item Pack" =IS=. What does it contain? Or do we know yet?
