Wow. A whole new look.
Sparks, shells, leaves, flames, snowflakes, confetti?
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
I hear that, man ^^ was in the same situation. Upgraded from a laptop that ran smooth on minimum to my current rig that noms Maximum like no tommorow.
Lingering debris from exploding robots, signs that if you jump and hit they swing, spent shell casings, said casings flying everywhere when you hover over them due to downdraft...
*breath*
Leaves that do the same thing and bits of paper, better water effects, see through water and better effects in the sewers, better looking enemies and costume pieces..
Lots and lots of stuff
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I just upgraded my system from a just good enough video card to a pretty good one.
And went from routinely running on minimum graphics to max. Of course, effects and the overall appearance of the world are MUCH nicer. There are details in the powers, and side effects that I rarely saw because I was usually on either "Low" or "Performance" settings. Like leaves and branches falling out of trees. Semi-persistent rubble and debris from destroying things. The game seems to even run faster (I upgraded CPU, too). Everything seems to move a little faster, and my load times are only a fraction of what they used to be. But apparently there are things I have simply never seen because I couldn't run at the highest settings in any kind of group situation. For example, last night I was in a Hami raid, and left my graphics on max with absolutely no problem. Now, in the past, Hamidon just flashed and disappeared when he was finally defeated at the end of a raid. Last night he did this whole shake, rattle, and BOOM thing that I had never seen before, apparently simply because I was never on a higher graphics setting before. Wow! I had no idea that was even there. So what else have I been missing? No spoilers, please, just tell me what I need to be sure to do with my new setup. (Hero side only -- I just can't get into villains.) |
Be sure to visit the Shadow Shard as well.

A friend of mine currently has a really old computer, and only runs CoH on low. But he's been looking for an excuse to upgrade, and figured Ultra Mode will be reason enough. So when that's released, he's going to be making a new computer with some pretty beefy parts.
I think the shift from minimum settings to Ultra Mode settings may make his head explode.
(roughly to the tune of Aladdin's "A Whole New World")
My system was so slow
Barely ran 8-bit graphics
Even sprinting was tragic
A frame by frame slide show
Then I went on line
And began a search for new hardware
Upgraded my graphics card yeah
And turned it on for the first time
A whole new world!
A Paragon I never knew!
My eyes no longer bleed
At Super Speed
No more hitch in Super Jumping
A whole new world!
Through my screen the perfect view
I see it through new eyes
Hey! The Vahz have flies!
I guess that explains the buzzing
Unbelievable sights
Oh no, here come the Rikti!
Lacking lag its not so tricky
To smack down and survive the fight!
A whole new world!
(All the old stuff looks new)
Each zone better than the last!
(Even Boomtown looks better!)
I must be in a dream
No lag on eight man teams!
Anywhere, Ive got power to spare
Let me share this whole new game with you
A whole new world
Thats where Ill be
Til Ultra Mode
Makes my system old
And ob-so-lete!

In other words, You need one more syllable in the last line, though it's still nice.
The chorus is isometric, as is typical.
edit: sorry, my brain is a party pooper.
YAY SONG!
Better?
If you like the shell casings and debris and such, try the same thing with a gravity controller or dominator. Really.
Try a Mayhem Mission set for 8 on SS Brute with Goldfish cranked on the speakers....
The amount of awesomness in the total destruction you will wreak will make your head explode!
Seriously, I upgraded from an old GeForce 6250 to a 9800 GT and my jaw hit the floor. I haven't travelled to the Shard yet, but may I suggest St. Martial at dusk just when the neon kicks on over the casinos.. beautiful.

Try playing with vis_scale sometime.
Go to Independence Port near the hospital and knock the gates off their hinges. You can do that in Bricks too. If you run a block away and come back, the gates will still be on the ground with new gates on the hinges to knock off. You can amass a large collection of fallen gates if you keep it up.
I've found that running into the gate edge-on is a reliable way to knock it off quickly. ^_^

Wow. A deep, respectful bow to Steelclaw.
Hmm... so vis_scale pushes back the blurred distant objects. Will have to play with that (and watch my temps!).
Thanks for all the tips!
Well seeing as you don't go redside.....even if you ever did, don't worry if you lag a bit in Grandville. I think everyone does.

When I played the game for the first on this machine, I couldn't get rid of the feeling that something was well ... off. After an hour or so I finally determined what it was, there was no 'lag'! I was used to playing with a small delay (fraction of a second really) on everything I did. My old pc really was old, hehe. Suddenly running everything at maxed out settings with sky high framerates was a real eye opener.

Good to hear trip! Now you can play soccer with Malta mech pieces! Believe me it's fun! Just don't do it on a timed mish lol.

Apparently this thread was an omen for me! I just got a call from the Computer Techs who have been working on my broken gaming computer the past week or so and it will be all repaired by next Tuesday!
My gaming computer is a wonder... the one I'm working on now gets lag when I'm running my Dark/Dark Stalker and try to toggle on Hide.
Now excuse me while I go jog around my house singing the Hallelugha Chorus.

I think you'll want to see this, which is what happens when you can crank physics particles to the level of "zomg! not recommended!!"

Couldn't see Zombie's vid, so apologies if I'm not telling you anything new, but if you have a Stormie with Hurricane, find an ATM, stand near it, and switch on Hurricane.
