Most effective solo merit farming?

Sorry to bring up an old post, but my question is related to this and figure it be better than starting a new one.

I like to make a toon on Redside that turns off XP gain around the low 30's level, so I can use merits for random recipe rolls in that level range.

What Villain AT / powers would be good for running flashbacks and of course Strike Forces (when I can find one ) that turns off xp gain when hitting level 30-34ish?

- Thanks,

There is also an arc by Timothy Raymond (I think it's him) in the 40-45 range called "Division: Line" and there are 13 missions in the arc and 12 can be stealthed (just glowies and/or defeat boss/minions around boss)...there is one mission where it's an actual "rescue" but the map is small/short so taking the captive back to the door is actually not bad at all.

I can do the Division: Line arc in about 1 hour and 10 mins or so...maybe cut it down to an hour...lots of traveling here though (example of the one time I wrote where the missions were: Tram, PI, Brickstown, Dark Astoria, Steel Canyon, Atlas, Crey's Folly, FF, Steel Canyon, Brickstown, Perez, PI and finally FF). So if you really want to speed through it, make sure you have the mission tp power from the booster pack, an SG base with all the teleporter pads, pocket d porter and Ouro portal. Oh and this arc gives you 33 merits. Almost double the merits of the Horror of War arc for a bit more than double the time.

I tried doing some of the other lower content story arcs (the ones that shipped with the original game...nothing like faultline/croatoa/etc) and wow...so much travel (just like the Division: Line arc except worse because sometimes you don't have a travel power!)....just not worth it to me.
It's actually the other guy that looks like him, Angus McQueen, Tim Raymond is a villain contact.

It depends on what content you expect to be running the most. Brutes and Masterminds are good all-purpose toons. If you choose flashbacks that can be sped through primarily and avoid defeat alls, a Stalker may be a better choice. If you just run to the end of most missions and complete the final objective the time spend ramping up Fury on a Brute will just slow you down, while a Stalker is the king of burst damage, perfect for those situations.

As someone who runs a fair amount of flashbacks for merit earning, my advice is: pick something you will enjoy playing. Otherwise it's just an unfun grind.

True, ya gotta enjoy the toon
I've done some flashback farming in the past with a ss/wp brute i have (now beyond that level range) and I usually stealthed where I could. I currently have a level 20 ele/regen stalker, how does one think he'll hold up to the challenge?

I was also looking at a xx/energy brute, since they get Energy Cloak at level 20. That with super speed would make me pretty much invisible to stealth to the end, I assume it works like the other partial stealth powers.

There is a slight problem with brutes, part of the fury mechanic is a pulsing effect that aggros. That said, it's not a big problem. I'd go with a stalker though, but I prefer a defence based one rather than a regen.

I have a stalker parked at 15, running psy hunt. Each day that I can remember to do it, and it doesn't interfere with my training. SOmetimes 2-3 times on a weekend

Letting the timer run out each time.

Nice a profitable in merit earnings. Still haven't hit the motherlode of a stealth IO though

I know you said you had no time for TF's, but are you considering speed run times? The 2 co-operative TFs ITF and LGTF can both be speed ran in under 30 min, so looking for a speed run community is not a bad idea.

This arc is a great recommendation. I'd run it before a long time ago, but forgot where to find it.

I'm currently churning out 16-19 min runs on my stone/ela brute and in the lvl and half I've put on it I've earned about 60 mil from drops, not including the lvl 34 lotg +rech I just got from it!!

Racked up 80 or so merits, which is pretty valuable too.

The final mission is one of the more enjoyable ones around, with a big flow of ambushes and 3 EB's to fight at the same time.

I've currently been rescuing Nos and Burk in the final mission and using them, but I'm gonna skip that and see what times I avg.

Thanks Talen!

Burkholder is a non-effect on your times, but Nosferatu produces a rain of inspirations. Sometimes you'll have Burky tossing everyone out of your AOEs, and that can be a pain. I basically only ever pick him up if he's on the way, and even then I do that only because he's guarded by a boss.

I understand your kid agro, and family duties. I play CoH/CoV for about 4 hours aday. I run a decent VG and SFs everyday. I run Silver Mantis's SF everyday, for about 2 hours...give or take 10/20 mins...I get 42 merits. I also run Flashbacks too. As lame as this sounds, I went to paragonwiki.com and looked up merits, anything that was worth 14 merits + I wrote down in a notebook(I have a CoH/CoV notebook I write stuff down in xD I know, I'm lame) and when I need merits, I look up the mission, how many levels, time it takes, ect and chose what I have enough time for. Also, join chat channel Virtue TF 2010, they always have something going on and very understanding. Or you could run ITF. A decent team can speed it in 35-40 mins...worth 26 merits. But if you ever need a teammate, or anything hit me at my global @shikratia Hope I helped

Once you get to level 50, IF your character can handle taking out EBs quickly and efficiently, and you can stealth (or simply run past things ignoring them as they attack you), then the Maria Jenkins arc actually gives decent rewards/time. It's 16 missions, but the vast majority you only need to click a glowie, free some prisoners, or defeat an EB/AV and minions. There's only 1 mission that you have to defeat all on, and there's very little travel time for the arc, since the whole thing (as far as I can remember) takes place in various portal corp buildings. The contact is even close to portal court. It's worth 36 merits for completing, so you might want to check it out.

I do the Freaklympics (solo) in about a one hour and ten minutes (using fly as a travel power with no base portal). I get 34 merits using a 42 dark sd scrapper. I find the map changes can vary my times by about 10 minutes depending on how easily I find bombs and the bosses. I dont fight in the defuse bomb missions I just rely on my defence to hold up to get the clickies.

Edit : Ref the 5th column overthrow running If you solo run av's instead of eb's it takes forever I think the last fight alone took around 15 minutes

I really need to do this arc with Mechano-Sam, a SS/Inv tanker that is a robot built in WWII to defeat the Nazis.

(Yes, he looks like a big robotic Uncle Sam)
