Feature Update Issue 17 - Dark Mirror
The problem comes from transferring money to said friend over the 'net, which I'm not too confident it. It also assumes I have friends in the US who are willing to do this for me, which I'm not sure I can call on at a moment's notice. Ideally, I'd rather see an online purchase for the thing. At the same cost, if it has to be. I don't need or want a box.

It's not that the experience is cheapened for those of us who got ours "the hard way," for me at least (I've got a lot of 50s, all the Khelds/VEATs I plan on rolling in the foreseeable future, and it's not like it takes me very long to hit 50 anyways). I don't disagree with them lowering the level gate, but I think 20 is too low. A few hours of game play will get you there - IMO it should've been 30 or even 40 (conveniently, 40 is about halfway to 50, XP-wise). Of course, it's not the time that concerns me as it is the thought of all the newbie players who are running around on an AT that is complex enough to require binds to function effectively (speaking of the Khelds here) or running around on VEATs without Maneuvers. Yeah, you've got people like that already, but now there are going to be a lot more of them, and while I don't PuG much so I won't have to worry about them, I kind of fear for the people who do.

Maybe this'll get them to finally fix Cyst Crystals to only spawn in the arcs where they're supposed to, though. Higher rate of play might also give them more datamining for future Kheld buffs (though God knows we've told them what needs fixing enough times and they still passed over most of the per-power tweaks when they tweaked 'em in I13).

It says that Epic ATs will be available at 20, but it didn't specifically say Kheldians and Arachnos... its possible that this might signal the coming of Incarnates, considering that Praetoria is around the corner.
I was reading along, hum tee tum . . . until . . .
"Epic Archetypes now available at level 20" . . . My jaw dropped. THANK YOU! Oh, how I've waited for (something like) this! Coming up to six years I've had an account, and the only place I got to try Epic Archetypes were on the Test Server with the help of a level 50 bump. I am immensely pleased with this announcement. |
Of course, that might also not be the case, with I17... but I think we could see something more with GR.
Level 50 at last:
VICTORY HEROES: Stonefall (Grav/Kin/Psy), Earthwave (Earth/Rad/Fire), Nae'bliss (Invul/Fire), Paradox Black Omega (Kat/Reg/Weap)
PROTECTOR VILLAINS: Ba'alat (SS/Will/Soul), Mechalomaniac (Bots/Dark/Soul)

Can you use PayPal for it? If you just transfer from one account to the other, the only one you have to give your credit card information is PayPal itself, which is about as trustworthy as these things come.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I'll have to research the matter and probably look up someone who actually has a PayPal account

This. Don't even call them "epic" ATs anymore.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Epic also implies a grand story. Neither the hero nor villain EATs qualify IMOs. But that's really just my opinion.
The official reason for calling the "epic" is because the Epic Archetypes are tied to the plot of CoH/V. Hell, most people would argue that Kheldians aren't epic at all.
And as others in other threads have mentioned, the devs repeatedly said that making them unlockable at 50 is a mistake, and this is merely fixing said mistake. CoH is a very accessible game for new players and team players. Making EATs unlockable earlier only fits that theme. |
I also disagree with the devs in stating that it was a mistake. Having rewards for achieving certain tasks is not a bad idea. It's been this way for 5 years. I don't mind them changing it. Hell getting a 50 is so darn easy, who cares. But they should just make them available at character select.
If there is to be no accomplishment in the task, then why bother?

How about Kheldians and Soldiers of Arachnos?
My main point is that they should unlock at character select for all players or stay at 50. Having them unlock at 20 is just silly. There's no accomplishment to leveling to 20, it can be done in a couple of hours. If the intention is to remove the gating of these ATs then don't do it half-azzed.

But as the "epic new storyline" of GR covers 1-20, having the EATs unlock at 20 might be related to that in some way.

For example, there may be new Praetorian EATs in the post-GR content, which would tie into your career 1-20 in Paretoria, either serving Tyrant or fighting against him.
Like playing through 1-20 in Paretoria and loyally serving Tyarnt would unlock some kind of elite Praetorian soldier EAT.

Interesting stuff going on there, I imagine the level 20 Epic stuff might have to do with Aion's "class splitting" at level 20...or just player retention.

So, as much potential for idiocy as every other AT, then?
Yeah, you've got people like that already, but now there are going to be a lot more of them
|
There will always be people who, infallibly 'Do it Wrong'.
Making the AT a bit less of a chore to get will do nothing to change that.

It can be done via AE, Techbot. Through regular content routes perhaps not...3-4 hours maybe. A little less if you "sewer" it heroside and really put your nose to the grindstone.

The prestige power slide also came in the "hero kit" that was available at the NCsoft store at one point. It was $20 for the power, cape, V.I.P. badge, color map, a heroclix figure, and a month of game time that got mailed to you. Supposedly, they were still selling them in boxes at the "Wentworth's Store" at Herocon 2009 at that price.
Yes. If I'm not mistaken, that's the one that came with Prestige Power Slide, which I actually really need for a specific Scrapper of mine, but can't get. Money really isn't an issue with this one, at least unless it's something like $80, it's just the fact that I can't buy it anywhere that bothers me. If it were up in the PlayNC store, I'd buy it, but it isn't. I'm not sure whether that's because it was supposed to be a limited-time offer or whatever, but it kind of bugs me.
|
NCsoft should repackage the power, cape and badge as a store download.
On Liberty:
Aardwolf - level 50 claws/invulnerability scrapper
Anchor - level 50 level gravity/forcefield controller
Dr. Dusk - level 50 mercenaries/dark miasma mastermind
And that is where I will always disagree.
I hate grinding. Not everyone likes grinding. Some do, some don't.
However, a LOT of other MMOs are very, very grindy. This game is great fun, simply because it can be but doesnt have to be.
The day that changes is the day things go downhill. Fortunately, the Devs seem well aware of that.

Do this:
1) Log into Atlas, street sweep to level 5;
2) Enter the Hollows; do story arcs and Meg Mason's missions until 15;
3) Then either do a Synaspe or do Faultline story arcs and paper missions.
Solo, this takes about 4-5 hours. In a group, about 2-3. Try it because what you just said is absurd. It's so absurd that I'm not even sure that you're serious.

Thats the plan I follow anyway, and have done for some time. I tend to be solo. I guess I'm obviously not pushing to the limit, or something, because it certainly doesn't go by that fast.

If this edition is a boxed set, then I CANNOT BUY IT. It's physically impossible for me to do so, as American retailers won't deliver to the butt end of Eastern Europe and I won't get a version of the thing compatible with my US game, even if I could actually FIND a game box in any store whatsoever. This concerns me greatly, as I very much do want the in-game times.
I sincerely hope that either they will release an in-game item pack separate from the full package game, or will release the game package on their online store. Because if they do neither, then things will become incredibly complicated and uncomfortable for me. I don't care about physical goodies like disks, manuals, figurines or all the assorted crap that comes with a boxed set (I have my CoH and CoV stuff filed away in a box I never open), but I very much want the item pack.
And I'm continually disappointed about preorder googies, as I know for a fact I won't be able to preorder online. Does not happen, will not happen. I don't know why that is, but that has always been the fact. Which presents the same problem - I want to preorder and have a go at the early advent of the sets, but I can't, thanks to locality. At least in that respect I'm not completely boned. Even if I don't preorder, I'll still get "the stuff" eventually when the expansion launches. This is more of an inconvenience than a practical concern, as I'm a patient man.
I'm not really excited about the rest of the announcement, as it basically says "Yes, there are more things coming." I kind of already knew that. It's comforting to know I17 will launch before Going Rogue, but we kind of already knew that, too. So while the announcement is much appreciated and I hope it will keep the "Where's mah GR info!?!" threads down for a days, it doesn't really say much, does it?
I'm sure you can set it up with a friend overseas so he buys it for you and sends it your way unless you're some sort of recluse shut-in who hates the world at large? Just guessing here I don't know you from bupkis.
