Need assistance with Acronym-itis!

Hello gang, Xammy here ftw! After months of inactivity I've gone all crazy with the postin' last few days. I have been reading posts here for a great long time but now and again I feel somewhat noobish when I see Acronym after Acronym that I can't define. I can remember how silly it felt the first time I typed the entire "On my way" only to realize that omw meant the same thing all along.

There's a communication trouble occuring whenever I pass by an Acronym such as QOL or IIRC here and was wondering if there was a guide to commonly used Acronym's or phrases.

Also, what Acronym's have puzzled ya'll in the past?

Well, QOL = Quality of Life, typically a change that makes something easier.
IIRC = If I Remember Correctly
IMO = In My Opinion
AFK = Away from Keyboard
BRB = Be Right Back, see AFK
OMW = On My Way
TLA = Three Letter Acronym . (Not COH related, I just couldn't resist)
COH = City of Heroes
CoX = City of Heroes/City of Villains
COV = City of Villains

Here's a few COH specific ones you'll encounter
IP = Independence Port
PI = Perigrine Island
PP = Perez Park
Sky = Skyway City
Steel = Steel Canyon, sometimes referred to as SC
DA = Dark Astoria, or in reference to character sets it means Dark Armor.
FF = Founder's Falls
Brick = Brickstown
CF = Crey's Folly
Boom = Boomtown
TF = Task Force
ITF = Imperious Task Force, taking place in Cimerora. One of the most popular TF's for level 35-50
STF = Statesman's Task Force - a high level task force for levels 45-50 commonly acknowledged as the toughest TF in the heroside game.
Shard = Shadow Shard
Green, Blue, Yellow, Purple etc = an inspiration of that type.
WW = Wentworth's, the auction house.
Oro = Oroborus portal, frequently referred to as an O-Portal. Teleports you to the Oroborus time fortress from where you can then teleport to several different zones.

There's lots more, those are just the ones that come to mind right now.

Ok, it calls that "Ghetto Ghosting", still I think Tanker Stealth is a better term

I did that once and wondered why I was having so much trouble. Then I realized that I had my taunt aura on .

For non-CoH specific ones, also try acronymfinder.com and UrbanDictionary.com (which is not always safe for work).

Speaking of which, NSFW (Not Safe For Work) was one acronym that puzzled me for a long time and I still sometimes take a second to remember it when I see it.

There are some incredibly obscure ones. I was on a TF and the leader advised it would go pretty quickly because they had a CS.

CS = Contact Sitter - a character who just sits at the contact for the ones that never give you a phone number.

At this point there's relatively few acronyms regularly used in this game that catch me off guard. OTOH, i still don't know what DKP means. i like to think it stands for "Donkey Kong Points" as an homage to early video games.
Also, i tend to type "En route." more often than "OMW" even though the latter is quicker.

Okay, CS* is a new one to me even though i'm familiar with, and encourage the use of, the practice.

Not an acronym, but 'pez' means inspiration.

Most times if someone says SC they mean Steel Canyon, while they say sky for Skyway City.
AP Atlas Park
GC Galaxy City, pffft, who goes there?
BM for Black Market but that is not commonly used

BP is banished pantheon
CoT is Circle of Thorns
KoA knives of artemis
DE is Devouring Earth
PP can also mean paragon protector as well as Perez Park

inc is for incoming ambush

Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526

I don't PvP much, but whenever I think SC I think Siren's Call. Steel and Skyway is normally what I refer to those zones as.

Paragon Studios, thanks for all you've done. You've made this a great game, and a great community. I see this as six years well-spent. NCSoft, I'm seriously disappointed in you. This is not how you get or keep customers.

I agree with this, though It's usually only "Sky" for Skyway.

I don't use it anymore. I've had teams blow to the four winds because I used "g2g" instead of "Ready"

BRT = be right there
FOTM = flavor of the month (this one confused me for a good while)
OTOH = on the other hand
IMOH = in my *humble* opinion
TTYL = talk (type) to you later
MILF = .... ... (google that one for yourself)
QR = quick reply (meaning the poster may not have read every little detail of the thread, and is just putting in their quick 2 cents)
RTFM = Read the (efffin') manual
GIGO = garbage in, garbage out (rarely used anymore... did I just give away my age. )
FTW = for the win
FWIW = for what it's worth

And that doesn't even touch the acronyms for powers and IO's (Invention Origins (enhancements)).

Honestly, I don't use a lot of acronyms in the forums, but in game they do save a bit of time when time is tight.

However, if you try to activate THAT many powers before you finally realize they are not taking effect, then there's a different level of observation problem you'd need to address with yourself. lol j.k

There's also the version of Tanker/Scrapper stealth where you just kill everything between you and the objective.

Dead men (or whatever) tell no tales.

So it's kinda like you were invisible. Who's left to argue with you?
