Merge the servers!

To find teams easily; don't watch the broadcast, gently ask people on the Find Member list directly if you can join them for a mission or two. Playing for less then a month now I already got a strong friends list containing several very social and nice persons who always let me team up with them. There's people everywhere around the streets on Virtue when I play .
And probably they haven't merged the servers because of the release of GR. If they are not merging now they are better prepared for server loads if GR should attract lots of new players.
With the dwindling numbers of players and lack of teams available maybe those sitting around in the studios should merge their servers in to 1.
Yes, you may lose your toon name.. but teaming would be a LOT better. Your thoughts... |
I play almost exclusively on Virtue but whenever I go to another server (I have a couple rarely played toons on Victory which is VERY low pop) I have little issue finding a team.
Have you tried forming your own team? Did you do anything more than say in broadcast (random AT) lft?
Also, one other question that I don't think has been asked yet (yes I purposely repeated some that have already been pointed out for reiteration) what AT do you claim not be able to get a team on and what other MMOs have you played? I ask that because a lot of people coming from a "standard" MMO expect that as a tank or support class they should be able to find a team more often because in WoW for example 90% of the time a team of pure dps spends 20-30 minutes looking for a tank or healer where as here you can run with a team of all blasters if you choose. There is no ideal team make up... there is no lack of any specific AT. Not sure if that applies here but I bet that's what a lot of people do.
As far as merging the servers, let me just repeat what's already been said.
No.
I play on Virtue because I like a higher pop. Some people play on Victory because they like a lower pop. It took me forever to convince my gf that playing with more people was fun but she still prefers a lower pop and would have left all her toons on Victory if I hadn't been so persistent.
Also, as was also stated previously, I would LOVE to see the specifics on this claim of dwindling numbers... especially when I see at least one post daily from someone who includes the phrase "returning player" or "new to the game" and as with any MMO the people on the forums only represent those that actually look at them not everyone playing.

"Is he going to ever get around to asking a question?"
"He is aware that we've been getting 6 free transfer tokens a week for the entire month, right?"
"i guess a low post count isn't the sign of someone who thinks long and deeply about a subject before posting, is it?"
"Where is he that he's been seeing such dwindling numbers, and how, exactly, has he been collecting his data? (There was the usual last quarter slowdown that seems to have been exacrbated somewhat by the economy, but recently i've seen more people on weekends.)"
"So, a thought-provoking post that requires serious consideration... i'm going to be kept Waiting for Godot this time, aren't i?"

October 15: Citing "the overwhelming success of the recent Free Character Transfer Service," Sony Online closed 12 Star Wars Galaxies servers. Players were given one month (from Sept. 15) to transfer their characters (for free) from one of these servers to another server. |
Will Going Rogue be run on the same servers as CoX? Or will it be run on newer, more powerful servers while CoX is run on older, fewer, consolidated servers?
The Beckett's "2009 in Review" article tracked trends in the MMO industry, including proliferation of microtransactions. Server consolidation is another industry trend.
Don't believe CoX is heading for server consolidation? Did you believe CoX would offer a for-pay travel power (Ninja Run)?

OMG a well thought out post about server consolidation... wow... I'm not being sarcastic I'm just truly amazed by the presentation of facts (even if they pertain to another game run by another company) that are usually missing from such a post.
HOWEVER, you're speculating on whether or not NCSoft will do that. Eventually I'm sure they will but who's to say when.
The OP on the other hand is actually requesting it be done because he "can't find a team" which we ALL know means he's likely just not going about it the right way.

I'm offering the OP freebie +rep so that he may learn from this experience and take care when making posts in the future. After all, we were all new once.
But after today I break out the -rep viciously! So don't let it go to waste!

Seriously OP, you currently have the option to merge the servers yourself right now. Move all your toons to Freedom. Tons of people there. You can move 6 a day. You have I think until the 31st? So that's 24 toons you can move. Choose wisely my son!
Perhaps it's a plot. Or just a particularly venal sort of astroturfing.

I play on Defiant, an EU server, with a lowish population. But I have many global friends and I'm a member of a busy SG.
I never seem to have problems teaming, I sometimes have the opposite problem of invites when I am running solo.
If things are quiet then I post on Defiant Events that I'm thinking of starting a TF. That seems to work ok
Happy to be on Defiant.

As an aside, I thought it was six transfers a week. But yeah, with the freebie in affect right now, the OP has no one but themselves to blame. They need to consolidate some grey matter and decide what they want.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
I hope they realize that GR is not a separate game, so wherever CoX is running, GR will be there using the same servers we already have. The only issue then becomes whether or not the server hardware would be upgraded at all or not, but that's a compeltely different issue.

2) Users are hostile to this idea partly because they're VERY attached to their character names.
3) It's taken as a sign of MMO implosion when a game reduces the number of servers. So just from a marketing/PR point of view, it'd be better to keep empty servers running than to shut them down.
My take on the best solution: the devs should make server transfers very inexpensive, like a buck.
Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.
You know, there is a much more logical solution to the "Server Population Disparity Problem." Instead of merging servers like everyone always suggests, why doesn't anyone ever prose to reduce the number of character slots? If everyone only had five character slots per server, they'd have little choice but to branch out to other servers to create more alts. Not only would this likely boost the population of servers like Pinnacle, but it would probably have the added side benefit of reducing lag on servers like Virtue and Freedom during peak hours and during major events.
Yes, I know it is at least as bad, and probably a worse, an idea as server mergers, I just wonder why no one ever suggests it.
