Iv been running into some pretty funny stuff since iv been back to this game, one of which happened just today.

I was playing my Elec/Elec Tanker, because it seems like a good pairing, good AoE,somewhat negotable ST damage, and i was on a team, and people where talking about the powers they wanna pick for there builds at higher levels, granted, this was the first team iv been on in 4 days, because everyones a AE Farming addict,i decided to chime in.

I was like "yeh,i cant wait till higher levels with this tank, ill shine like a pearl in a team.",and not surprising,i got laughed at,maybe i was just asking for it,who knows?

I was told by 1 player, that i shoulda rolled a Invln/EM,that my tanker is going to be passed up for another because of my sets.I found that kinda frustrating, and then another chimes in telling me that any Scrapper will be able to out kill me,and most other tankers will be able to do the same. This frustrated me even more...So,i asked a smart question...."Do either of you play a Elec/Elec Tanker?Or have you even seen one in action?" there reply was pretty much no,that they wouldnt be caught dead trying to play those sets, and that they have a "Friend" that erased a lvl 40 Elec/Elec Tanker...which is funny...cause in all situations like this...someones "Always" has a friend that did it,and they have no way to prove it.

Getting more frustrated,i said "Ok,what makes you think this builds going to be horrible and that other tankers and scrappers will be taking care of the mobs?" one of them relpied with "your build is like making a mage in WoW,and telling them to just make water and food in a corner somewhere...worthless."

That by no means answered my question,it just went further to insult my choice,so,i tried a diffrent wording/phrasing of the question..."What makes you think, with Lightning Rod,Thunder Strike,Chain induction,Lightning Feild, and even a well aimed Jaccobs Ladder, that id be worthless compaired to any other tanker build?" ..no repsonse was givin to this, and we went on to continue this mission, until maybe 5 minutes went by,and this time, the other tanker on the team chimmed in,and simply said "Because your power sets suck,go make a real tanker.".....Typical of a Invln/Mace Tanker from what im seeing..convinced there Invln/ is the best set out there.

This time,i didnt asnwer...i decided...ok...we are on a lvl 14 Troll mission, and its half done....the team is lvl 11,lets see how well they do without my help....so i stood there for a moment,we where staring down the barrel of the next mob, instead of running in like iv been doing,to take the alpha...with the other tanker following right behind me no less...and let him put his money where his mouth was....in this team of 8,i let him run in first...i hung back, took a few steps back, and the team jumped in after the tanker, and surprise surprise....Controller compairing me to a WoW mage that casts food and water spells ....dies...the tanker...dies right after him...then the team starts to drop...one by one.....and i didnt go in to help them.

I simply said "You know, your totally right,my power sets are just horrible..but your the one dead without them...",and i left the team, and happly logged off.

The issues im having in this game are becomming very broad...and most of it is because of ignnorance from other players, they are ignorant about the power sets, they are ignorant about the way a team works, they belive they are smarter then everyone else, and theres always a following of one moron following another.

The main issue here, that made me the better tanker then the before mentioned Invln/Mace tanker,is that he only took Dull Pain and temp Invulnerability...the rest where attacks, and Hasten....he effectivly was building like a scranker...no Taunt,no Taunting Aura.....i very commonly ID everyone i team with,to see who may need more help then the others, and i try to keep them alive by watching there agro vs my own,and it works pretty well.

I happened to have all Armor Toggles for my Tanker,as well as Taunt,as well as lightning field.I was grabbing alot of agro,i only had jaccobs ladder and charged brawl to fight with.Thats why i succeeded, where the other tanker failed.

The bottom line is...it doesnt matter what you choose,if you play it right, your golden...but im tired of people who belive that what everyone else tells them is great,is the best there is...that guy that was on a invln/mace tanker, should have picked FA/ or something with a heal clicky because he wants to play like a scrapper.

Was i wrong to teach a team a lesson?

That 1 player is basically saying that they and/or other people do not value other people as much as they value what other people and their sets can do for them as far from the end of their noses that they can see.

I laughed at what else ya said. The person behind the character should matter most. It's wrong to judge a set on the basis that poor player failed with it or impatient players gave up on it.

Tankers or anyother AT aren't a necessity in teams, so why are (lets pick on) stonetanks so needed? It's because people have their own crutches. If its not done using a certain dynamic everyone is screwed.

An elec/elec tank can be made potentially viable for most random STF PuGs. Really viable. It's upto players to work the game out to get it done. Those who know it all already know everything like the ones you have described shouldn't be wondering how.

I made an Elec/Elec the tricky part was getting her pink aura right.

I have one and only one question for you: What server was this?

Posted

Yeah, because Dude, you need to stop listening to Trolls and fools.

I have never run into these 'LOLTankers' people, but I've read a number of anecdotes featuring them. And Inv/EM?? EM is currently considered sub-optimal as a set.

The real answer is that Every Tanker can tank successfully. Every tanker Primary can protect you and every tanker Secondary can do plenty of damage to the enemy. Now, it's true, if you set your expectations high enough, not even a Granite tanker will succeed...

So, here's my advice to you: Play your characters the way you want and when some troll opens his fool mouth and spews foolishness, just smile, tag them with one star and find somebody else to play with. Oh, but don't just dismiss Every cautionary word - there are people out there who may have Constructive things to say.

Be Well!

...hmmm.

My first thought is, I wonder if they meant INV/ELM, as I seen alot of people use EM to equal ELM, and which point I correct them. :P

But yeah, if they think INV/EM, I'd disregard them anyways. Not that /EM isn't workable. I just hate the set now. :P And so do alot of others. But it still looks pretty! *huggles those pink pom poms*

I also wonder how that INV/ was falling to Trolls, if your ELA/ wasn't...unless it was all about you both sharing aggro...or he just didnt have his defense toggles on/chosen (seen it happen alot).

Now, I've seen some DA/, FA/, and ELA/, tankers in action...and I'll say I've seen some really good ones...sadly, the majority I wouldn't say fall into that category.

That could be why they talked such a way.

Also, unless I've seen the tanker in action, wouldn't be my first choice for one of my favorite TFs (ITF). But that could just be because the ones Ive seen in it, have fallen pretty easily.

I'm pretty sure IOs can take the sting out of it though.

Which gets me to the real point. Just laugh at them. I wouldn't have let the team die. And if the team was rolling well, and the xp was coming, I wouldn't have left the team either.

But I would of reminded them, that alot of what they consider the best tanker, requires either 1) great team backup or 2) great IO set slotting.

I keep hearing Shield/ tankers are all that. Then team with a Shield/ tanker without IO sets, without Tough/Weave, just get nailed.

The same is true for ELA/ tankers.

In fact, I keep wondering if a ELA/ tanker who relies on +RCH from set bonuses...if that would be enough for tanking the ITF.

My Brute (ELM/ELA) did okay, as long as I was able to drain the enemies of their blue bar fast enough. Sadly, with 3 LVL 50 RCHs and 3 LVL 50 ENDMODs in Power Sink, that wasn't always fast enough.

And I don't know how well it would work against tanking LR, in the STF.

The LGTF however seems like it would be a ELA/ tankers, dream TF.

I'd agree that it's about who is behind the toon. Followed by the build, and then the IO's in the build. That being said, at lvl 11...they're all about the same.

Also of note, Inv/* doesn't have it's Taunt Aura until lvl 18.

I did well with my EM/Elec Brute. Of course he was IO'd out. I had to take Tough and Aid-Self to be happy. My Tank will be able to take even more punishment.

It might just be that you have bad luck with the people you're teaming with but I've NEVER seen anyone say anything like that on Virtue. I can't really speak for other servers as most of my toons and all the ones I play regularly are on Virtue.

I will say however that while what they said was ignorant and stupid, honestly your reaction is a bit childish. If someone is giving you crap about your build they probably just aren't worth playing with at all but you reacting the way you did and basically allowing them to die when you could've helped is no better. I hate this saying but it fits here... two wrongs don't make a right. Next time just thank them for the team, quit and be done with it then when they die they can silently rethink their opinion of whatever build you're running.

Remember, first and foremost this is a game... the instant someone is causing you not to have fun just stop playing with them because no offense while they are ignorant, doing what you did makes you look like the jerk in this case.

I have never seen the broad spectrum of attitudes that you have brought here anywhere on the three servers that I play on. That really is the only explanation that I can think of that might help you out, especially since you say that everyone is AE farming (because on the servers I'm on, next to nobody is farming in AE anymore).

I really don't know what else to tell you.

I don't see what's hypocritical about it or how it's gibberish. He simply suggested to the OP to try a different server, and frankly if I ran into the issues the OP has posted about (this isn't the first one) I'd try another server too.

I will say that I have one toon on Freedom and it's the only one I've ever logged in to see people arguing over broadcast... it reminded me of WoW... that toon is still lvl 2.

Sorry, but having one lvl 2 character on a server is not the profound wealth of experience that is required to rate that servers community. But YMMV. (EDIT: Ok, I have to admit: The Atlas Park and Peregrine Island broadcasting channels are sometimes a little bit retarded but definitely not on a WoW-X-Roads-Chat lvl)

Btw: The OP is the only person in a long time period reporting his problems with such "special" player attitude on the tanker forums. That leads me to the impression that he's overrating the social behaviour of some of his team mates. As Fireheart already said, he should stop listening to the trolls.

I agree that he should stop listening... but at the same time there is still nothing wrong with suggesting he try a different server.

But you inadvertantly bring up another interesting point... if he's the only one reporting such issues, maybe it's not the people he's playing with...

Aw man, I just rolled up an Invuln/EM. Does this mean I'll rule, or that I'll suck?

Although, I changed the pom-poms to black with a yellow halo, which matches my costume. Here's hoping for the best!

Bah. Don't let jerks get you down. Noone worth teaming with will turn you away because of your build.

This isn't typical behavor, as far as i can tell. I a guy with alot of odd, sub optimal builds. As far back as i can remember, i've never really been "discrimated", for lack of a better term, against because of what i've brought to a team. I played Invlun scrapper back when they were basically the gimpyest of the gimped. Ive played Storms and TA... I ran a Fire/Inlvun brute... back before you could trick the inlvun out to be pretty freaking sweet... I've ran Merc/Posin MM's... you name a set that has had a bad rep at least once in this game, and i've played it durring the hight of it's supposed suckyness,(after all. My main is a Gravity/Kin troller. Gravity.. has never NOT been considered the weakest or second weakest troller set since the game launched... heh) and i can't remember once being excluded from a team because of it. Oh sure, i had to field a few, "TA?!?! REALLY?" and some such remark. I just laugh, say "yeah..." and set out to brake the stearo type.

Don't think this is a common attatude. From my point of view, (Triumph) it's a rarety.

My main is a tank.

I rolled him almost 5 years ago. I still play him today, and bring him out everytime there are new badges to be earned. I have been thru GDN and ED with him, and today I see him stronger than he ever was before. This said...

He's Ice Armor/ Ice Melee/ Ice mastery tank. This might not mean much to the people who weren't here at the beginning, but to those who can confirm this (Looks at Aethorn :P) Ice tanks used to not only be left aside, they were even laughed at.

I remember when I was first playing him, people would see me running around PI and ask me to use my powers cause they never saw an Ice tank that high level before...

I remember being turned down from missions/TFs, cause the leader said the team needed a "real tank"...

I remember that the only way I could get invited to a team, is if I had my empath friend with me...

But I stuck with him. Kept playing him no matter what. I learned his strenghts/weaknesses, and learned to work with/around them. Yes there was alot of dying/faceplanting/teamwipes, but I learned.

Today, my ice tank can herd like its an art form, go toe-to-toe with GMs/ AVs/Lord Recluse/Reischman, and has gotten the 100 PvP rep badge the honest way. I've been on teams where I have out-tanked WillPower tanks, Fire tanks, Invulnerability Tanks and even Stoners in granite.

My point to the OP is, if you stick to it and put enough love in that toon, you'll make a Elec/Elec tank that can floor any competition.

Take it easy, and I'll see you on the front lines.

He can't get the taunt aura until level 18. As for Taunt, I NEVER take it before I at least have DO's to enhance my durability. At level 11, a tank *IS* a scranker because their defenses are mostly a joke.

As for the rest of the post, you really must stop paying attention to idiots. You had some real boneheads on that team.

Invuln is a very powerful set. It never sucked and it got some buffs not too long ago.

EM, in most people's opinions, got nerfed a bit recently. It still performs more than 'acceptably', but it's definitely not a set for someone who wants to be the team's heavy hitter.

I would have no hesitation taking /EM today, except that I already did. I'm working my way through the sets: Inv/EM, Ice/SS, Fire/Fire, SD/Axe, Dark/Dark, currently leveling a WP/Ice.

That seemed...unnecessary.

We were trying to help you out, and give you some advice to minimize how much you see those comments you're getting. We certainly weren't trying to minimize your experiences.

And most of us do care and pay attention. So I would not be so quick to generalize.

Big emphasis on that part. When I'm on a team with someone, and they say something brainless to me, I don't let it bother me. By the next mission, I've forgotten it.

Let's see... something I was told once....
Everyone sometimes says things that are wise or beneficial. And everyone sometimes says things that are garbage. Unfortunately, most people around them let the good stuff pass by and fixate on the garbage. Try it the other way around. When someone says something insightful, or helpful to you, react accordingly. When someone says something stupid, let it slide. Ignore it.

Elec/Elec is decent enough. I've found with my brute that even with the new +Regen clicky that my health dips a bit low a bit fast. Could be localized to the brutes though. Mileage will vary on build and IOs.

Also, who gives a smeg about what other people think? They want to be pig headed and ignorant, let them.

You snipped much, from what was said I take it that the Tank didn't have unyielding. No Unyielding, bye bye toggles (EDIT: well in the old days XD ) and all that Tank was left with was dullpain and his attacks. Not a good start.
