Yeah, not in the US. You might try asking the Euro sub-forums threads. With all their weird characters, they might be allowed that.

Chat can use the extended characters.
But for English server names, only the period, apostrophe, question mark, and hyphen can be used and only one of them once, and not at the beginning of a name. The rest are the standard roman alphanumeric characters (small and capital case, which are not distinguished by the game for uniqueness).

Man, I wish we had access to the various inflected letters... I also wish we could have more then one period in our names. No, I'm not suggesting a character named ".....", but it would be nice to have a character name name that strongly suggests an acronym. (Say, like K.R.O.N.O.S.)
I like that one Freakshow boss that has the @ in his name. That one always throws me off because it looks so odd compared to the rest of the standard font.

On the bright side, it's easier to /tell and /invite someone if they're only using "standard" characters, especially to us ethnocentric Americans. I'd hate to have to, say, learn the quick codes for accented characters just to be able to type in an invite. (I don't use the mouse much for anything, honestly, including gaming.)

I can understand why they disallow some of the non-stardard characters (to avoid people making an @$$ of themselves, so to speak), but not the periods thing.
