What Are Heroes Running FROM?
I didn't read this whole thread.
I don't PVP. I have been playing online games for about 12 years and have never found PVP enjoyable.
What I do sometimes enjoy is being around PVPers, and just watching stuff go down. I also don't mind the thrill of being chased, as long as it feels substantially fair.
I think the complaints about people not wanting to fight you are kind of silly. There is nothing implicit in entering a zone in which it is *possible* to attack other players that says you must fight every person who takes a swing at you to the death. From a roleplay perspective, I don't attack every thing that takes a pot shot or I'd never get anywhere. From a gaming perspective, the game for me is simply surviving in the zone and not necessarily trying to kill anyone else.
If you don't want PVP and are unwilling to participate in it, you have no business being in the zone in the first place.

- PVP
- Shivan Strike
- Badging
Only one of the three REQUIRE that you actually engage in PVP. The other two merely have the additional threat value of other players added to the endeavor.
And, yet again, someone trying to tell other people what, where and how to play.
Hint: You do not dictate how other people utilize the game. Please commit this to memory.
You're consenting to PVP by entering the zone, explicitly and implicitly |
and then if you change your mind you're essentially going back on that agreement. |
Even if, in some bizarro universe, you were somehow right, the agreement is NOT with you or any of the other players in the zone. It's with an immobile, noncombatant NPC.
You're tipping over the chessboard rather than lose your queen. It's poor sportsmanship to agree to play a game and abide by the rules of the zone then refuse to play the game when it doesn't go your way. |
And I'm sorry, you wouldn't recognize sportsmanship if you stepped in it.
This isn't fiteklub.
tru warris dun run dey fite toe2toe

Again, since when has running in PVP NOT been a valid tactic?

I'm sorry but you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. |
Please tell me who you are on Virtue. I'll gladly farm you all around RV. This Paix? or lolOutlaw?
Neither do you. Yet you continue to post as if you have some sort of clue; you're stealing my thunder Smurch, I don't like that.

I don't know who those people are, and as I've repeatedly said, I'm not a regular PVPer. I just pop into the zones once in a while. They're usually empty when I do, so I either run zone missions or just leave (or log out to get Predator). I sure don't know who you are or where this chip on your shoulder has come from.
As for who I am in the game, I have about 30 characters on virtue. None of them are named "Paix" or "lolAnything".
lol

Yup, Paix is back. But he says he won't be coming back to any of the farm zones. I miss farming him. Atleast his regen was somewhat entertaining to farm.
We chased Outlaw out. He's been on Freedom with the rest of the Elite PvPers.
Not sure why you keep trying to bait me.

You don't seem to comprehend that this talk of honor, fairness, sportsmanship and respect.. have no place in zone PvP. It's a free-for-all, anything goes. There are NO RULES OF ENGAGEMENT. If you want your sense of honor, justice, sportsmanship and respect...please by all means, use the Arena.
Just stop whining about the zones being what they are and how people choose to engage or disengage in combat.
This is my response to the post that was linked.
1.) The example I cited was a tanker attacking my brute when I came out of a mission in Bloody Bay. We started to fight, I started to win, so he ran away. This strikes me as being a poor sport. He PICKED the fight with me, and then refused to finish it. He's either afraid of losing or a bad sport and just refuses to let anyone else win. Either way, it's bad form. Once you start a fight, you finish it. It's disrespectful to your opponent to tip the board when the game doesn't go your way. Give them their well-earned victory. |
2.) People who go to PVP zones to PVE and then feel entitled to NOT BE ATTACKED AT ALL and have a chip on their shoulder about people who attack them in the PVP zone. People who expect someone to ask them nicely if they'd like to fight or leave them alone and feel that they have a right to this. Anyone who attacks them in the PVP zone is a jerk, and they shouldn't be "forced" into PVP like that. |

I think any time you engage in a competition (and I play alot of games, both at the tabletop and online) you should comport yourself with sportsmanship. I know not everyone agrees with this and some people instead believe in gamesmanship. In fact, I'm sure I'm in the minority position. I know I'm in the minority position amongst the PVP "elitists" most of whom seem to take gamesmanship to an antisocial extreme.
However, I don't approve of that. I believe sportsmanship makes for a better game for everyone all around and one should always treat one's opponents with respect, be it on the chessboard or in a game. I disapprove of it when people act like poor sports. Just like I disapprove of it when someone's rude to me at the grocery store or when someone's being too loud at the movie theater. It's just part of being a civilized human being in my eyes, to comport yourself with a sense of mutual respect for every individual and to do your best to exercise good sportsmanship when engaging in a competition, and being polite to someone when you see them at the grocery store.
Nothing in PVP prohibits someone from being a gracious winner and a good loser.
That's my opinion and I'm choosing to express that. If that upsets you, then that's your problem. I'm standing by it.
I'm going to disagree. Looking at this situation in comic books as well as in real life, most people are just not going to fight to the death if they have any say in it. Villains, in particular, may have very valid RP reasons for getting the heck out of there once things turn sour. Heroes may simply feel that, since they failed to arrest you, getting out of there is the best option so that they don't die for the mistake.
|
I agree with you that this attitude is unwarranted. Anyone in a PVP zone is a potential target. I also think this applies to people who feel entitled to the special perks available in PVP zones by calling them "PVE content." That said, from a role playing perspective it's totally valid to me that a slain *character* would be upset about being attacked. |
If someone actually ever once RPed with me in a PVP zone, they could get away with bloody murder, I'd be so happy.

Respect for the player is one thing. But don't expect people to not run away so that you can get that last kill in. That has nothing to do with respect. That's the nature of PvP, There are no rules of engagement in zone pvp.

If I see a player in a PvP zone and I don't have a good reason to not attack them, you're damn right I'll go after them. They're in a PvP zone, I'm in a PvP zone, and they just so happen to be a member of the opposite faction (or just con orange in the case of Warburg). At that point, they have three choices: 1) fight back, 2) run, 3) leave until I'm gone. I don't disparage someone for making any of those choices, because I fully expect most PvEers to hightail it as soon as I start attacking them. If I kill them and they keep coming back, that's more rep and more chances at a PvP IO drop for me. Sooner or later they'll wise up and figure out what I'm doing, and then it might get interesting. If not, oh well. Best-case scenario, they'll actually stop and ask me questions about my build and their build, and we'll have a friendly conversation, and I just might have managed to bring in a new PvPer. Of course, many PvEers would rather just log off in frustration or suffer in silence instead of trying to actually figure out what's going on, but that's neither here nor there.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Outlaw as in Outlaw Immortal? That really bad Fire/Mental Blaster that thinks he's hot **** because he can occasionally steal a kill and almost always has Hibernate, phase, the jump pack, and the draw range bug to fall back on if things don't go his way, and refuses to step foot into the arena even though he thinks he's God's greatest gift to PvP? I haven't seen him, even on Freedom, in several weeks now.

Sadly, I really can't see any way of implementing any kind of narrative into PvP.
Eco.
If anyone wants to do that on virtue sometime, let me know.
