Help me play Blueside
Recently I've been playing Redside to death. I've been trying to get into playing Blueside, but I can't find anything good to play.
So, I need your help with picking something to play. I'll be playing in a duo most of the time. I want to play something that's good at both soloing and teaming and won't make me grind my teeth while I'm leveling them(end issues, really SLOW leveling, etc). Like I said, I'll be duoing in most of the time, so two ATs that go well together would be nice, but I don't want one of them to be strictly support. |
Any Scrapper and a */Rad, */Kin or */Cold Controller.
Nothing will stop that duo other than Hamidon or the Rikti ship raids.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Also, the two characters don't have to be different ATs. The person I duo with and I just made two Elec/WP Brutes and we're loving it, despite having exact same slotting/power choices.
MA Scrappers are very thematic. I love the one that I am running right now. With the new animation options, she can have a mixed bag of punches & kicks.
I think the main reason MA is getting a bad rep right now is that the damage is Lethal and lots of the higher level baddies resit Lethal a lot (but some don't).
I like the appearance of MA as a Scrapper - jump in and kick & punch things. I recommend trying one.
But I also like my new Electric Scrapper a bunch as well.
Other recommendations depend on playstyle, but if you are having fun with your Brute team, Scrappers will play like Brutes, but with Criticals instead of building Fury.
As you can see from my sig, I am partial to blasting in general, so if you know how to manage aggro (when to get it and when to avoid it and how) then Blasters do a ton of damage, and building Defiance is kinda like building Fury on your Brute. If you want to try a Blaster, maybe some sort of Blapper with the /energy or /electric secondary.

MA has excellent ST damage, but lackluster AoE damage.
Two of my favourite scrappers to date are my MA/Fire and my Elec/Dark, so I'll recommend those, although they'd both be late bloomers due to end usage.
*insert obligatory 'roll 2 emp/sonic defenders' suggestion*
Perhaps a Fire/Electric tanker running with a Sonic/Sonic defender. Should turn Rikti into mincemeat.
A pair of Elec/Shield scrappers would likely level everything in sight with rolling nukes.
MA hits like a run-away freight train, but at lower levels its rather endurance heavy.
Psi/psi blasters are great, simply because the damage type is so un-resisted and very heavy hitting. Squishy as all blasters are, but rather damaging.
Regen is pretty good for a first scrapper set, mainly for a better version of Stamina at level 4 (Quick Recovery). That eliminates endurance problems pretty well, and its less management heavy than some of the others.
My first hero was and still is an Invul/EM tanker. He levelled slow, but only cos I'm a raging altaholic. Nowadays he is, literally, invulnerable, and this is without finishing the slotting for Psi res I'm giving him. Tough and Weave + Invul is something wicked.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I've always wanted to make a MA/* Scrapper, but I've heard bad things about it. Would it be fun to play in the long run?

It'll feel the same.
If you just want to go blueside, and don't care about copying powers, you both could easily go ELM/WP Scrappers.

As with many exotic damage types, psi pays for relatively few resistant targets by having some of those few show very strong resistance. A pair of electric blasters could be fun. Two short-circuits going off simultaneously is obviously unfair, but then obviously unfair = fun if you ask me. Electric blast deals energy damage, which does run into the same problem with high levels of resistance in a small number of enemies -- I believe it's 40% on mu anything in the Arachnos faction, for one example, and malta sappers might as well be immune.

Maybe after the Brutes get to a higher level I'll do a Elec/SD duo. Right now, though, I'd like to play something different.
Psi blast sounds fun, but I thought it was terribad outside of PvP?
And what about Rad blast? The only time I've used it was on my Kin/Rad defender, who is dead now.
Rad deals energy damage, see above notes for electric blast, but I've played a rad/elec blaster and enjoyed it enormously. You must stay mobile -- your AOE's are ranged, cone, and pbaoe -- but your single-target control is folded into your highest-damage single-target attack. Its activation time is longer than many of the tier-3 blasts, so your dpa dips slightly, but you get both the damage and the crowd control in one power. There are fights you won't really need the control, and in those cases you lose kill speed for no real benefit, but I find it helpful against most lieutenants and bosses. For a blaster, radiation blast pairs very well with energy manipulation, since that has a stun of its own. This lets you stun bosses at the very outset, and keep them that way. My rad blast/dark miasma corruptor is likewise enjoyable, though the blaster version of rad blast has a very different feel from the defender/corruptor version just based on the normalization they did with the tier 1/tier 2 powers.
Two Elec/* blasters are very effective (or an Elec/* blaster and a */elec defender) but one is ... on the edge of "Very effective" and "useless".
For a all-duoing pair, I'd recommend them as one of the fun options.
One pair that my wife and I did, which both work well soloing as well, was a MA/SR scrapper (you could use MA/"almost anything") and a Rad/Sonic blaster. MA is very single-target oriented, which helps you keep away from the "kill the anchor" game, and the pair can slap around archvillains from Faultline on.

Scrapper is the obvious choice hero side. I'd personally suggest Fiery Melee for the primary, but I'm a huge fan of Fiery Melee. /Regen and /Willpower would be excellent defense choices, because both offer survival tools that largely don't care what type of damage is coming in, and have nice passive endurance recovery boosts to ameliorate endurance woes.
TEH WERDZ ON SKREEN HURTZ MI BRANE!
4 of us just got done leveling a group of */shield scrappers... as a team they were unstoppable. We ended up with 2 Dark/Shield and 2 BS/Shield. Once everyone had Grant Cover we were so far over the soft cap defensively that nothing could touch us.
Solo my BS/Shield is without doubt the fastest killing and one of the most durable characters I've played. Built to the soft cap that character can do some really silly things like tank the ITF.
The only downside is that the characters were a bit late blooming, we were pretty squishy until level 28.

Two defenders Dark/Dark and a Rad/Rad.
Debuffs, Buffs, Heals, typed dmg, it's all win.
(note: you can switch it up for more flavor eg: Rad/Dark, Dark/Rad)

Fire/wp scrapper and traps/sonic defender....things will melt(no pun intended)
Well, whether a Tanker meets your criteria of leveling speed and endurance issues will be subjective, but my thinking is this: if you want different, go Tanker. Two Scrappers would do great -- but they're not unlike Brutes. Two Defenders will be like two Corruptors, but slower. But nothing you've played redside will be able to reach the durability of a Tanker -- the caps are just higher.
Your partner can be anything, although a Blaster might be a change of pace and would complement a Tanker well. But here's your chance to really make a stupendously rugged monster who can shrug off mind-boggling amounts of harm.

I'd go with a Scrapper / Defender duo.
Elec/Shield and Kin/Elec would make a good combo...
I tried a few combination and finally stuck with a Traps/Sonic and a Rad/Sonic.
They basically tear through missions without a scratch on them. The only challenge so far has been when my FFG gets destroyed or I forget to resummon it, which can be dangerous.
Since the winter event started today(well, kind of) I decided to see how we'd do against an EB. Before doing it on them, we did it with the two Elec/WP Brutes(who are only level 25), and it was a little tough, we had orange health when we finished off Snaptooth.
The Defenders took him down in less time than the Brutes did, and with way more health. And the Rad/Sonic is only level 6, and the Traps/Sonic is level 24.
Hahahaha this is great
