No base love on the Horizon
or, you know, he could be on vacation.
Or, you know, he might have a policy of not answering private messages.
Or, you know, he might have a ton of private messages and yours just got lost in the shuffle.
I just love it when people presume that a "no response" from a dev automagically becomes confirmed doom and gloom. Oh wait, love is the wrong verb.
After a little superficial search-fu, I couldn't come up with the post from Sunstorm that turned up on the Base forum a while ago, but I recall him saying that for the foreseeable future there will be no changes coming to bases. We can always hope for new items, revamped design engine or raiding, but personally, I wouldn't count on anything new until after Going Rogue has hit full release.
Sadly i think Pyber's right, i recall that post as well.
Like Underworld? Then take a look at! http://moonid.net/account/recruitmen.../monstersgame/

Yep, thanks for posting that Fire Away, that pretty much sums it up perfectly.
It was great talking with you and Cende at the Con as well! I'm still working on content for bases, and we have some very big plans waiting in the wings, but for right now my main focus is on GR. (In fact, the projects I'm working on are so big I barely have time to get away to post.) |
To me, sometime after GR is a part of the "foreseeable future".
Obviously, for some, YMMV
I did not see the post from Sunstorm. But the point of this is to hopefully get some type of information to the masses and by making this post let the devs know we want a timeframe. This was not meant to dog him out, but get us info.

If he were to give one and then miss it, he'd be crucified on the forums.
The devs have learned from doing that before, and that exactly happening on the forums, so not surprising that he isn't giving a time frame because he really doesn't know when he'll be able to get away from GR.
Would you rather he say that or just come in and blow smoke up your *** saying "some time in 2010".
Blazara Aura LVL 50 Fire/Psi Dom (with 125% recharge)
Flameboxer Aura LVL 50 SS/Fire Brute
Ice 'Em Aura LVL 50 Ice Tank
Darq Widow Fortune LVL 50 Fortunata (200% rech/Night Widow 192.5% rech)--thanks issue 19!
The point of his post was that he can't give an accurate time frame, as he's stuck in GR work.

Yeah, I would like a hint of what these "big plans" are.. I think most of us just want to know we haven't been forgotten.
For what it's worth, we all had to wait 5+ years for Powerset Customization. This is just my personal opinion, but once base building/raiding is revamped, I belive it will have been worth the wait.

You may want to look at the whole thread entitled "Base Manifesto" below if you have not already done so. I'm not real optimistic of much more base info coming to players in the near term than what is contained there (but if you do learn something please share if you can).
Like others have said (I should say the ones that "get it" but that would be unkind ), I would speculate that there's a lot of downside and not a lot of upside to a "big reveal" for bases atm from a dev perspective. Not only does it detract from the main current focus (GR) but it could actually generate a huge (unneeded) "firestorm".
Consider the following (admittedly near worst case) scenario. Let's suppose "the plans in the wings" for bases are focused primarily on bringing back base raids (something the devs have gone on record that they want to do). I guarantee you that an early announcement of same would trigger an "immediate nuclear launch" by those people who have no interest in pvp saying the dev priorities are "all screwed up"... and worse. Heck, I'll be surprised if my mere SUPPOSITION above doesn't bring out a venomous post from somebody.
Now let's compound the situation. This "big reveal" hits a snag. Now, have you not only torqued off the people who wanted something other than base raids in the first place... now you have disappointed everybody who heard about (and prepared for) raids to return.
Yes sir, lots of risks and not many rewards for the devs to say a whole lot more right now about bases... especially with the focus being GR and all.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.

WHERE IS MY FEATURE XYZ I WAS PROMISED! BWAAAAAAAHH! |
I'd rather be told about the stuff when it was closer to completion (meaning it'd been vetted in-house to be working-ish), rather than having it promised and then pulled if it was sucktastically problematic.
But that's just me.
Thing is, if some of the stuff turns out to be Base Editor 2.0 (the one they dropped because it was so bad), having him list all the stuff NOW would get a really nasty reaction from some people.
So, instead of investing in a wheel of cheese the diameter of Jupiter to go with all the potential whine, he's simply sticking to a nice, safe "no comment" right now. No, it's not just you. (I understand your tongue is firmly in your cheek, but I couldn't resist)
I'm actually kinda surprised that Sunstorm made the post that he did in the other thread, but really glad that they are trying to manage expectations a bit better than they have in the past (i.e., don't have any expectations of anything any time soonish).

I think he gave us the appropriate information in his post in the Base Manifesto Thread as well. He confirmed there are plans, and didn't start a Forum War between folks who want this and folks that want that. Or, folks arguing about how it is going to work when it eventually gets here.
I take comfort in the fact that he did say they have Big Plans. That means we are not forgotten.

Hello folks, I sent this to sunstorm about 2 weeks ago and haven't got a response. To me that means we are getting hosed for the foreseeable future.
