"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Talked to some people in Unsuppressed vent last night - I'd like to see an option for base resistances being removed, but I don't think it'll happen. Why? The damage refiguring was based around DR on and base resists on, which is why DR-off PvP is so lol right now. I'd still like to see the option just to see how it plays out (lord knows it might make Sonics at least somewhat useful again) but I'm not holding my breath anymore.

even with the damage changes, the availability of actually capped resistance (75% on squishies) would actually be welcomed. think of it this way, we ran around in i12 with 75% resists. damage was doubled at most when DR was taken into consideration. that doubling actually accounts to (1-.75)*(new_damage-base_pve_dmg) = (1-.75)*(200%-100%)= a net 25% increase in damage in high end match.
25% is nothing. 25% is giving two reds to every blaster in a match. and since the unresisted portion of blaster damage is gone, you might as well start calculating that blasters will actually do less damage in a capped resist environment now than they did before (FACT FACT FACT, REMEMBER i13 NO DR PVP FACT FACT FACT).
The main differences between pre-I13 matches where everyone was at the resistance cap and post-I13 matches where everyone is at the resistance cap are the removal of unresisted Blaster damage, the removal of unresisted Defender debuffs, the mez changes, and the gutting of movement slows (though that probably doesn't have as much to do with it). Of those, the first two are probably the most crucial, at least for mostly-hero matches. I'm not disagreeing that there are situations where having that option would be good, and I will keep pushing for that option just so we can play around with it and see what kinds of changes it would make to the arena dynamic.
I did bring this up when I talked briefly with Mod 8 on test yesterday, and I've mentioned it to Sunstorm repeatedly, but I think we need to make a really good case why giving us the option would be a good thing if we want a chance at getting it.

Interesting side note here:
Apparently the devs are wondering what exactly happened to test arena after I13 (answer: most of the players left, and we were forced to run with DR off because of the lack of a heal decay option at the time, which resulted in a boring and one-dimensional game), and are considering coming to check out some of the KB matches on Freedom. The problem here is that it's a very fine line for both us and them to walk - I understand the frustration many players have about the current system and their want to vent that frustration on a redname when they actually show up in-game, and I understand the devs' want to get some insight into what's actually happening with the game at the moment. I don't know if they'll make themselves known if they ever do decide to show up or if they'll just casually watch without us knowing, but if we do end up bumping into devs on live watching our matches, please remember to be at the very least reasonable and cool-headed. Don't bombard them with questions and insults, and don't try and ask for the old system back. If we do get time to sit down and talk with a dev on live, we need to offer our suggestions simply and give support for those suggestions in order to make any meaningful change. Personally I'm still a bit wary about extensive dev involvement after I13 - I and many others I've spoken with want changes to be made, but don't want a bunch of changes that aren't what anyone asked for. I think it's a safe bet to say that we need to make ourselves approachable in order for real dialogue to happen, and we need to be asking for minor tweaks and fixes rather than overhauls of entire systems (like getting particular powers looked at before we focus on getting things like travel suppression or heal decay modified). |
If they touch something again, you might see AR/ being the next FOTM. Watch Full Auto do i12blaze type damage.
I can't talk for villian matches but for heroes it wouldnt of been that uncommon for the top teams to have every farm target to be at -60% res (unresisted), before the blasters even started.
I`m glad Mac is trying but like some others on here im not overly hopeful about the final outcome because of clueless devs.
Shenanigans
LotD - JaL - POWT/SMD - SoCo - AJs
I need my 10$ back. Apparently there are other black people on Freedom.
lol.
Also, thanks to everyone for all the kickballs and asswhoopins. Was in some close one as well toward the end.
Freedom is awesome for PvP, so many people playing all the time.
Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!

OMG OMG OMGGGAAAA I R BAAACK get your insults ready!!!!
Ok, once again... This is not a thread for PvP suggestions/flaming the devs/talking about how i13 is bad.
My stance on PvP is that by singling out an individual issue like inherent resistance you are only tailoring any changes to an already heavily flawed system.
Let's try and work with what we have until we push the new system to its limits. Yes, the new system sucks. I know. We all know. We also know that we can't count on the devs for anything. It would be nice to think that they'd do something useful, but we can't count on it.
For there to be PvP at all we have to continue establishing a PvP community. While we have made extraordinary progress, there is a LONG way to go. We have barely touched the beginning of the beginning. Still, we are on the right track. Stay on it. We need more people to step up and take the initiative: start organizing matches, get people to come to the matches - advertise relentlessly and aggressively. Matches don't start themselves.
This is also not a time to be talking **** maliciously to other players. Most of you guys were bad in i12, but that doesn't matter anymore. You are now in the top 1% of skilled players. Act like it.

I recently got a bunch of RolePlayers into Arena on Virtue to ERPvP, i'm sure a few heroes left the arena blue-bawling but they seemed to enjoy it.

Glad we still have silit around.

Haha, I love this. It's a severe insult, but at the same time a request not to insult people. Well played.

There is a difference between "nowai i got regin" and "You are a bad player who will never be good, go die in a fire, and make sure your family is with you." If someone really is that bad then there is no reason for you to be putting them down any further.
Let's at least keep a semi-courteous outlook when it comes to dealing with other players.
Honestly, even guys like barrier and conflict, who may come off as meanies on here have always been the epitome of niceness any time I ran into them in the game. It probably comes down to who you're dealing with.
In some cases, there really is no reason to be nice, and the people really do deserve every bit of insults they get. That galactor guy for example. ALL he did was talk mad trash, while getting completely owned. Nobody has any reason to be nice to a guy like that. Well, except in his mandatory anger management class.
And no, you're not going to be able to "explain" it to them. To truly understand it, you have to do one of two things.
1.) Play the game extensively.
2.) Flat out put your complete trust in a member of the community (like mac) and just basically say "ok, tell us exactly what to do to improve the game, and we will do it."
We already know #1 is false. It's plainly obvious that the devs don't PvP and never have.
And I can guarantee with 100% certainty that #2 won't happen. They would have to admit they're a failure of a development team and that a simple player has better game design ability than them. While completely true, there is zero chance of that happening, for obvious reasons.
