Any Future Intriguing Games?

So, I was going to play tonight. But someone decided we should upgrade to Windows 7 today, so now I'm staring at CoX downloading, and it has a couple more hours to go. *sighs* So here's something to talk about.

I frequent gaming sites, so I like to keep my eye out for good games (I'm currently playing Muramasa for the Wii: I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a fun action game... has some great art direction, too). I'm wondering if there are any worthwhile MMOs on the horizon people are looking forward to.

DCU looks meh to me, and not just because I like CoX... it's not as intriguing to explore a world with such big and iconic figures as Superman and Batman, and I don't really feel like carving my own niche there. Maybe there'll be some fun gameplay, but it seems too early to tell (and I do hope GR will shake things up well enough to stay competitive in that regard).

Bioware working with the KOTOR property might have something to offer, but that's far too early to tell, too.

Cryptic has shown off more of their Star Trek property, but I'm not too impressed with the gameplay you can see. I'm a big fan of Star Trek the Next Generation (and DS9 to some extent), but that's not enough to overcome how meh some of that looks. Doesn't look particularly all that dynamic for ground combat, and the space combat looks a bit bland as well. Sure, you can maneuver around, but it looks like pretty much all the weapons track with your target, so it's not quite as fun and deep as some flying games I've played. I dunno, Star Trek seems to lend itself easier to actual RPG games, or strategy. Few too many captains running around if everyone can be a captain, as well. I may have misunderstood a video, but it looks like the Romulans aren't going to be a playable faction, which is a pity... TNG had some fine episodes about skullduggery between them, the Federation, and the Klingons.

Anyway, anything look interesting to you on the horizon?

Muramasa rules, and there are no good MMOs on the horizon. The genre is dead, long live CoX!

SWTOR is looking promising. My next MMO is Jumpgate Evolution. I am a PvP type though, what looks good will really depend on what you want to do. SWTOR will probably be the best game for the PvE types, POSSIBLY OF ALL TIME!!!

What Shamster said. Dragon Age, as well as Diablo3.

For me, Call of Duty 402 (obviously not an MMO, but it comes out next tuesday, woot!)

Also, you can get S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (best fps, ever!) off steam right now for 5 bucks even.

I can't really play anything on the Xbox or PS3, as we only have a Wii and a gaming computer. I wish they'd just make the consoles into computers already. *sighs* So silly how they split up the market like that. Is Mass Effect 2 on one of the consoles again? Not sure if I'll be all that interested anyway, since I wasn't able to play the first one.

I'll have to see about Diablo 3. Diablo 2 was pretty fun, though all the demons, etc. in the storyline kind of throw me off. New one looked a bit gorier, too, which I never enjoy very much.

What is Jumpgate Evolution? Haven't heard anything about it. Yeah, I could go read up on it, but that's not as fun as getting a bit of info from fellow forumites.

I played Call of Duty 4 on Xbox for the first time today. It was horridly lame compared to PC. Some of the graphics look better, sure, but everything is slower. Any nub can pick up a controller and kill people. It takes at least some skill to do the same on a PC shooter.

D3 only has 4 classes right now, Barbarian, Wizard, Witch Doctor, and Monk. Word is there will likely be a range-based class as well in the making, but I've seen nothing official concerning it.

Ease of use, price of entry, content control and unified platform is the purpose of console and PC seperation.

Jumpgate Evolution(JGE) is a space combat flight sim MMO. No it's not like EVE, it's an actual combat flight sim(throttle/joystick type) inside a Newtonian physics engine. It's a niche market but it's shaping up quite well and has a nice following. Won't be for most considering it's not a click/cast type game, it's twitch based combat.

I hope you mean in relation to COD otherwise this is pretty off base. Mouse+Keyboard offers superior control over controller in shooters. It is harder to play an identical game with a controller. It would be like trying to snipe with a shotgun, it's not precise. Shooting games are all about precision.

Perils favorite game is CakeMania for the DS.

lol, wow you're brilliant. Good game.

I agree with you on precision. My point is that we, the PC gamers, can actually be more precise with our control setup. It's rather difficult to match our precision with thumbsticks, so the console types have to *nerf* the required precision necessary to yield the same outcome (I shotted you dead). The system is made easier for them. That's all I meant.

I'm picking up my copy of Dragon Age Origins tomorrow morning. Also, a copy for my hubby ... as his Christmas and birthday gift (complete with the strat guide so he gets a present for each day ... in this case, Dec. 24th and 25th ... no question, he gets the short end of the stick in the presents department).

Now ... it's not a surprise ... if I bought it and kept it secret ... he'd probably go out and buy it for himself, so, he knows it's coming. It's up to him if he breaks it out now or on the "right" days.

I'm looking forward to it, although, between CoX's Halloween Event and my burgeoning work schedule, I'm not sure how much time I"ll be able to give it right away!

Geni

Looking forward to both of those.

I'm actually intrigued with how Mass Effect 2 will work with the saved completed Mass Effect game on my hard drive. Apparently just about every decision you made in that game will have some effect on the plot in Mass Effect 2.

Examples:

I let the captured Rachni Queen live.
I let the jerk council heads die in a fire to concentrate on stopping the big bad guy threatening to destroy the universe.
I flat out executed that encampment of biotic extremists instead of negotiating with them (guns are a form of "negotiating").

Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!

Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

Yeah, I used to play a good amount of Halo for the PC, and I noticed the difference when I finally played it on my friends Xbox. I hated it, really, as it was "all thumbs" to try and aim, and quite frustrating if you're used to the precision and speed of the mouse. I did notice the game was helping my aim as well, though... I was making shots that I shouldn't have (sure, I was close, but not THAT close).

I'm currently playing:
  • City of Heroes/Villains
  • Champions Online
  • Borderlands (PS3)
And on the future list have
  • Deus Ex 3 (system unknown)
  • Star Trek Online
  • SW:TOR
  • Alpha Protocol (360 or PS3)
  • Mass Effect II (360 most likely)
I still have FALLOUT 3 and FABLE 2 to go through, but there's just so much good stuff out there it's amazing!

I believe that a Kheldian Gold Standard should be based on SO's, and for anything above that... there's Platinum!

As I've always been more of a console person, all but one of the games I'm looking forward to are on the consoles. Going to pick up the GTA 4 episodes pack sometime soon, run through that. Already have Assassin's Creed 2 on pre-order, loved the first, though doing the exact same damn thing every town got a little old (climb this, do this side mission, slaughter that guy). Also will probably pre-order the new Ratchet and Clank game sometime soon. Always been a fan of that series.

As for computer games, Trek Online's the only one i'm looking at.

Is STO's combat going to be more engaging than it looks on those videos, DC? I'm wondering if there is some kind of extra strategery that you can't see going on, as right now it looks like running around and firing phasers, whacking people with Klingon weapons, etc. Not much to it, and not very engaging.

I started Dragon Age last night. It took me about 2 hours just to get through the Mage origin story. I liked how there were two potential solutions to that whole quest, and in light of the revelations at the end of that story arc I'm glad I chose what I chose to do.

I think when I ended last night the first outpost you get to was just about to fight a huge battle (right after the Grey Warden induction ceremony -- LOL -- Grey Wardens iz serious bizness). I'm thinking this battle isn't going to end so well.

I, too, am less than impressed with what I've seen so far. I had some hopes for this game but those have been quashed for now.

I really hope there is some sort of strategy that we can't see (which sci fi shows like Star Trek can lend themselves to very well... there have been a few decent strategy games based on Star Trek), because otherwise, it is quite meh. Star Trek doesn't have the flair of fancy Jedi, comic book magic, or fantasy combat to fall back on, so they really should have done something to make it stand out. Tabula Rasa had some things they could have used or learned from, so I was surprised at how bland it looked.

The new Star Wars MMO should hopefully be pretty sharp (I was excited by the last one, then less than impressed by how it turned out). Bioware rarely disappoints, so that one might make difficulties for my time and budget. Ugh.
