I concur. Those costumes were awesome and you guys should have been recognized.

So amazingly true. Very approachable and very engaging, a great talker. Having him wave to me in front of a group of attendees? Priceless.

Biggest disappointment of the whole weekend.

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

This. So TOTALLY this. At least last year, all participants received a little something for just making the extra effort. This year, they really dropped the ball. Lumping all the prizes together the way they did (and even slapping them in the face with it - "good luck dividing up your four prizes, six-person group contest entrants 'The Wentworths'") was just friggin ridiculous. I'm sure they had some spare pint glass sets or pins or costume codes or SOMETHING left over from the WW to offer the people who didn't win outright. What the hell, man?

Also, again, nothing personal against The Legendary J Man, but simply packing the same costume he had last year should not merit a third-place finish. I blame the judges on this one.

Oh, right, back to the topic at hand. *ahem*

Things I learned at HeroCon 09:

Waves are only good things when they're in the ocean. <.<

A few trays of exceptional brownies can unite the world. Seriously, they should try this in the Middle East; hostilities would cease immediately!

No matter how much time I spend around attractive girls, talking with them just like any other friend, I'm never able to completely relax around them - nervous rejection-prone geek for life! /facepalm

If the pieces aren't already made into a set, I can't make a costume to save my life.

Trying to escape god-awful drunken karaoke in a nearby LAN room is a lost cause... especially when someone gets the bright idea to open the dividing wall between the rooms. >.<

Accidentally sleeping through bacon waffles makes Plas a sad panda.

Even last-minute surgery can't stop Texas Justice. He'll find you. Oh yes, he WILL find you.

The battery needs of the first-time visitor to San Francisco outweight the battery needs of the person who's been there before.

Sea lions put out a powerful, POWERFUL smell. How the food service places on the piers stay in business in spite of this fact is a wonder to me.

The people who run the Doubletree food service section do not know what good food is, much less know what the hell drinks cost in the real world. The only way 10 ounces of Coke should cost $5 is if it's poured by the model who portrayed Ms. LIberty this year at the 'Con into a magical golden chalice that keeps it at a constant 34 degrees... and you get to keep the chalice afterward.

I can play Quarters. o.O

When in doubt, keep your laptop handy. Free wifi is your friend.

Winning Apples to Apples depends largely on the sense of humor of the people you're playing with.

Winning Risk depends largely on how well your partner rolls the dice... on the last roll of the game... when you absoultely need a six just to tie. O.O

Take the long way around Yoda might, but home Yoda will lead you. Faith you must have, even when over the Bay Bridge and into Oakland he tells you to go. Yes. Hmmm.

Buca di Beppo may have a funny name, but they're damned serious about their food... and their concept of "small" is still absurdly huge. They still don't know where to put their sign so that people can find their restaurant, though.

Not allowing photos to be taken inside a museum exhibit based on a television and movie series, but *charging* for photos to be taken, is a @#$%^& travesty.

California freeways need to learn the difference between North and Southbound traffic. Going north on the 880 in order to go south makes no frickin' sense to those of us from the real world!

The Ocho has some powerful lungs on him, but I swear his voice couldn't have fared well after that weekend.

Whoever gave me the Vahzilok Wasting Disease (aka the HeroCon flu) needs to gtfo. I mean, I forgive you for coming to the convention sick and all, but seriously, gtfo.

Yoda must be like me. Any way to avoid 101 into or out of SF & I'll grab it!

??? Where was this? I can see confusion with 280 & 101 as they pass East-West through San Jose, but 880? This I NEED to see! :P

Yes, you most certainly can! We learned that right after we found out I'm actually a Ninja who's good at hopscotch.

As for suffering the status ailment - you should have rolled a Tanker. Or a Scrapper. Or heck, any archetype with Status Protection! ...Ok, truthfully - god only knows how I avoided it since I was hanging with most of the same people as you through the weekend. But I agree - gtfo! Yar!

And I still thank you for that! I appreciate it so much, and still can't figure out why my batteries went from "just fine" to "are you joking?" in like three minutes.

And you totally pwned that quarter challenge!

Yea, I got the sads after the costume contest. I'm probably going to leave some feedback for them in the official feedback thread once I find a nice way to tell them how I feel about wasting over $100 on fabric and hours of my time, when I could have just went to Party City and bought something and won.

I don't know if it's much consolation, but I see a lot more pictures of you with other Con-goers than I did of those with the contest winners. That may be selective memory on my part as I got to meet you personally and Braxx & I instigated what turned into the flurry of photos with you & Ms Liberty.

And didn't even notify the resident D.O.M. of the photo op goodness going on.

Shame on you you young whippersnapper.

Now, get off mah lawn!

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Heh. Choose your favortie reason for why not:
a) You were too slow old man!
b) It was a rough situation, I did it to spare your old bones the rough-housing!
c) Huh? What are you talking about? Did I forget to tell you something?

Yeah, that seriously bites Chloe. I particularly liked several of the non-winning entries.

That likely has to do with the fact that Chloe is a great looking gal! Your costume, The Doc and Vahz girl were way better than the winners.

I agree with most the 'things learned' that I took a part of.

Next year I am PMing a few of you my cell phone number, so you can force me to hang out with the group. I have no idea why I am so wickedly shy and afraid to break the ice, but I usually can't manage this on my own. I'm pretty sure I'm a cool person to be around after that initial stage, it's just getting there thats the hard part!

See you all next year!

Okay, we have to get you to join us the next time we have a mini get-together for the NorCal Justicites. Perhaps be easier for you to initially break the ice with a much smaller group of folks. And then when HeroCon rolls around next year, hopefully you'll feel comfortable enough around us NorCal folks that you'll hang with us and mingle with whoever we're mingling with.

Get this man a couple Jaeger Bombs! He'll mingle just fine then.

Odd note.. Within the last year my answer to shy or uncomfortable has become alcohol. I personally look forward to uncomfortable situations, but that's thanks to some conditioning on the part of a friend. I think I want all of YOU to become alcoholics!

I'm in the same boat. Ironically, it was Pope and I hanging out all day, two anti-socials socializing.

I did manage to drag myself to breakfast, but I didn't know anyone, really. I'm working up to it.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

And it was really awesome getting to hang out with ya at breakfast! I recognized your name right off the bat from the occasional Hami raid that I've attended (I can't count the number of times I've given you tank buffs!) It was neat finally getting to meet you! I regret not seeing ya during the rest of the con...I'll have to be sure to learn some tracking skills between now and next year so I can track you and Pope down!

*deep breath*
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

What a great sense of humour the lovely Manoa has ... "easier!" *wipes tears from eyes*

.. wait .. maybe she is planning this without TA & I in which case .. dratz ... now my plan for world domination will have to wait .....

Pope, have no fear... you and I WILL hang next year! Already saving up money... probably more than I will need but more money=more fun!

I have a question: how much game time, if any, did you all get this year? And do I have to supply my own machine?

Are you talking game time at HeroCon? Or game time prior to going to HeroCon? If the latter, yes, you have to supply your own machine. If you are talking about at HeroCon, there was a LAN room set up with quite a few computers to play on.

There is a nice LAN room, but I never even logged in. For one, I was having too much fun at the con to think about it, and for two, most of the people I regularly team with where there. If they continue to have it at Doubletree, you'll have free internet if you bring your laptop.

Same! I stepped into the LAN center briefly to take a peek and to sign RG's t-shirt before dinner Friday night. I brought my laptop just in case, but only got to use it to check Facebook and the message boards a tad bit in the mornings before leaving the hotel room for non-stop socializing.

Don't let her fool you! Manoa was quiet, shy, and more often than not, found hiding in a corner somewhere! We all thought she would jump out of her skin when someone said hi to her!

Yes. This is why I found it so strange that she developed laryngitis after the Con!

Also... looking forward to meeting you in person Ogre! (I was going to say something about in-the-flesh, but after Trem's nekkid panel discussion, that just didn't seem... prudent.)
