Things i learned at the 09 HeroCon...

I logged in Friday afternoon when they were testing the setup in the LAN room. I hung out in there while people signed a certain T-Shirt, then went to JIMBOMB! (Justice Italian Meal - Buca - Oh My Belly!) and only wandered into the LAN room a few times the rest of the weekend.

Just too much awesome going on and too many friends to hang out with to want to spend my time in the game instead of face to face encounters.

EDIT: And I went really low tech this year, especially for me. The GPS I borrowed from my nephew was the ONLY electronic or technical equipment I took. No flash drives, no laptop, no phone, no camera, nada but the GPS with the Yoda voice.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I spent an hour or three in the LAN room playing with Puce/Vanda1/Nakoa. Most the time was spent wandering panels or just chatting with people. This is for Saturday only, I wasn't able to make Friday night or Sunday at all, but next year I hope to be able to stay through the whole thing.

Ya, I gamed with Pope for a bit in the LAN room and also spent some time in there during the session on Mission Architect with Dr. Aeon. We did a quick ITF with some folks.

For the last two years, I spent the time during the Live Mission Event in there. It's not really my speed.

Those were some niiiice machines.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

A brief side note, or "What I learned because of Hero Con".

One of the cats in the Frog/Floorman SG base is a crazy orange wrecking ball. He likes laser pointers. A LOT. Will follow one to the ends of the earth. Today I found the polar opposite of the dot in the CoH projector pen I got at Wentworth's this year. I projected the image on the floor in living room this morning, and crazy has not willingly come back downstairs since.

The moral? Cats with a preference fear the Statesman star.

Remember kids, reading is fundamental. Especially on the forums.

I think that is possibly because your wrecking ball is clearly a minion of Arachnos. My Big Fat Black Furball of Spider Death (he does eat spiders whenever he can) follows the HeroCon projector pen Statesman star like a loyal hero of good.

As I think about it, I wonder if he actually knows what the star is and is afraid of having his crazy nerfed.

Day Two of Habiki Watch!

The crazy one still won't come downstairs. He allowed himself to be carried downstairs without any type of struggle today, but once I set him down, the stove made a noise, and he hightailed it back upstairs. Since the food is downstairs, I decided to bring a bowl of food and water upstairs, but he now seems scared of that, too. he's really freaking me out, since this is completely opposite of the way he's behaved to this point.

Thanks, HeroCon! You broke my cat!

Leave the food where you normally leave it. Eventually, his hunger will overcome his fear and he'll get through it. If you bring the food to him, you allow him to be scared longer. If there was real danger, that would be the right thing to do, but since it's just a projector pen, I think he'll be okay.

Give him extra love and and affection and he will come around. Cats are simple that way.

Or ... you could do what I always do with cats.

Use them for target practice.

There is a special place in hell for cat haters. It's full of pubescent serial killers and high school anatomy teachers.

Through a combination of trickery, deception, and a laser pointer, crazy has been successfully coaxed down into the kitchen. I now hear the crunching of cat food. Even if it's a temporary visit, it's progress.

UPDATE: 12 hours later, crazy seems to have resumed making downstairs a part of his existence. He seems a bit reserved still, but that will probably fade. Also the CoH projector is being tucked away in the junk drawer for now. The part that still gets me is that right after this started, before we knew how bad it got him, I did the same thing to the other cat. She looked at the star, then looked at me. If she could talk, she probably would've said "Yeah, I see it, I care why?"
