I noted this in another thread, but I am getting negative rep for having too big a signature. I thought I already had the smaller one?

So have I Dumple. Just ignore them. Some people are just idiots that will neg for any small thing they might disapprove of.

I've already gotten over a DOZEN negs since the new forums complaining the same thing: "signature is bigger than post"... like that's some sort of crime or something.

Those that think your signatures are too big should understand that compared to some other forums, they are getting off very light. Both in terms of screen space as well as file size. There's a couple of people on the 1stMI forums that have 4mb sigs and avatars due to uncompressed animations.

Neither of you has a signature image larger than what the forum rules state you can have, so I wonder why anyone has an issue with them.
