Yeah, that's my problem with it. It's a feature that should just be a part of the costume creator (it already is at the creation screen), so why they didn't add this as part of an update is beyond me. I'm not the only one to wonder this.

Before Castle admitted that they couldn't think of anything better (not really a good reason to include the feature), I suspected as much, as it seemed like an odd move on their part, compared to most of the things they offer us. It's nothing like the little buff the Magic booster does, or the fun of self-destructing, or the mission teleporter.

*added*

How did I miss this? Apparently you'll be able to change your ammo for dual pistols on the fly? Should be nice and helpful to switch up depending on the mob.

There's a bigger thread on it in the Blaster forums, but I would guess Dual Pistols will be like Claws or Dual Blades: fast, lighter attacks.

Okay, Part three of that video series I linked to has some funny moments and a few bits of info (the last several moments aren't much use unless you wonder about the activities they did at Herocon) that are worthwhile.

Jump to about 7:25 in the video if you want to see what happens when you combine Liberace with an Arbiter. Hilarious.

A little before that, you can see Hamster's nemesis, Marcian Tobey.

Yeah, basically "swap ammo" will be a click power with a quick recharge that cycles through the ammo types.

Yeah... probably will take the place of Aim, which is kind of a bummer. Unless it's an extra power with the set that you don't slot.

I watched the fight a few times last night, trying to figure out all the powers. So far I'm down to (In no particular order)
1 single shot
2 double shot
3 (stronger?) shot (Like blazing arrow/blaze/BIB/etc.. just a harder hitting single target. I'm not entirely sure if I'm seeing this one or not in the video, but it's likely to be present either way)
4 cone
5 PBAoE
6 Ammo swap (not in the vid, but we all know already)
7 rain of bullets
8 ?
9 ?

At 23:00 he does something I can't figure out, but it's right before the rain of bullets. It's not part of the rain animation because he does back to the standard combat stance between the awkward movement and the shots. It looks kinda like the double shot animation being interrupted halfway through. but whatever.
No idea wtf the dove thing was about either at 23:15
23:24 he does a shot he doesn't use anywhere else (what I'm assuming is the third ST attack).
This is a list (in order) of the powers he uses (excluding the "amp up" in the beginning)
single shot
double shot
cone
single shot
PBAoE
cone
double shot
single shot
cone
PBAoE
??? (23:00)
Rain of bullets
double shot
cone
single shot (doves wut?)
double shot
Different Single shot
cone
single shot
PBAOE
cone
single shot
double shot
single shot

So... there are 2 powers still not shown. I'd assume your typical mez power (Don't think pistols will be sniping) and maybe even aim.
Either way, it's bound to be a lot like archery, only more flashy, and awesome.

edit: On ammo swap:
I'd assume to be "on the fly" it would have to be quicker than cycling through all 4 each time. That's not very fast in my book. It would make more sense to make 4 separate power icons (1 per ammo type) become available after choosing the power itself. Similar to choosing nova grants you the blasts, only there's no need to slot the bullets. There are just separate icons to determine which ammo you're switching to.
That's how I'd do it anyway...

Once of the Devs said that the Doves was an easter egg for the conference only, we won't have then in game. I'm pretty sure the power at 23 WAS the change ammo type power, because his bullets seem to be toxicy afterwards. The power animation has the character looking at the guns and fiddling with them; it takes a second or two to activate, so I really do hope that we don't have to cycle through the damage types to get to the one we want, but without seeing the HUD, I guess we'll still have to keep pondering.

It makes me wonder if they could reprogram other sets to deal other damage types of our choice as well. Maybe choose your type when you take the powerset from the beginning or during respecs. That's how I would do the 'electric hammer' set or something like it. Just be war mace and make it 70% smashing and 30% energy for all the attacks. That'd be awesome.

no snipe in the set? That could be a missing power. Also the "amp up" is probably also a slot if you use the archery set as a guide.

Don't really see pistols for sniping. Not like all blaster sets have a snipe.

I asked, and was told that that it was a single power that cycled from ammo to ammo in order. While it would be nice to have a power for each ammo type, I suspect it would cause problems. For example, if picking ammo swap (or whatever it's named) grants you 3 extra powers, what happens when you respec? If it's like Khelds, you'd keep the 3 extra powers, allowing you to respec out of one of the ammo changing powers and keep the other three.

I suspect there are more reasons that just that, but I can see why they wouldn't do it that way. (I'd like a power each ammo type, mind you.)

All this talk of the blaster primary....no new secondary? I'm at a loss thematically and mechanically of which Blaster secondary would "work well" with a dual weapon set. If every click-type power was putting away the guns, I wouldn't make it out of the tutorial with the character out of sheer annoyance alone. "Not using" a Secondary is assinine IMO. That's kind of why I was hoping it'd be a Scrapper set so the secondary could be more toggle-based than click.

Is it being ported to Defenders and/or Corruptors? Quite a few more primary/secondary sets there that I could make work than I could for Blasters.

Still nothing of a hook for me in regard to GR AFAIK. (< -- can only imagine the giant grins that gave various people )

With my luck D.P. will be of poor design and even casting Fulcrum will cause redraw. Because, of course you can't hold pistols and raise both your arms.

It would be really nice if they took the time out to create more synergy between powers. I know they've said redraw doesn't have an effect on powers, but it sure does ruin my immersion...

Devices doesn't work well with Dual Pistols?

And to answer your question, Defenders and Corruptors are also getting Dual Pistols.

I'm not 100% sure why this is such a problem, but as I understand it, there are different 'combat modes,' and having a weapon out or retracted are completely different. In order to remove the redraw, they'd have to create a plethora of different states, transitions from state to state, etc.

It's why Brawl is one of (if not the) most complicated attack in the game. (Works for every power, no redraw, different animations for some sets - like the shield bash for Shield characters).

Trust me, I'd love for the weapon draw to be removed, but I'm sure it's not a trivial amount of work to do, or they would have done it already.

This used to be true - now sets that have had their activations sped up (kat, bs, claws, mace, axe, maybe some of the ranged powers, but I'm not sure) or started that way (db) are now slowed down by constant redraws. Previously, if an attack took 1.5s to cast and had a 0.5s draw, the attack would always take 2s to cast (with a forced idle period at the end if you already had your weapon out). Now it would take 1.5s when the weapon is out, and 2s when you have to redraw.

Still, no worse off than you were before the changes.

Other than being a horrible/weak secondary, and only using the toggles (been awhile, but that'd be 2 powers?).....I guess not? Though on a team, you wouldn't be using much of the secondary anyway.

Since it's going to Corruptors, I'll stick with that. Safer, stronger, and more useful all around IMO.

Still not enough of a draw for me though.

Are you considering the large dose of content we'll be getting with GR, or just looking at what was announced at Hero Con?

Unless there is content strictly for either side *on top of* the rogue/vigilante stuff, there isn't really "content" that interests me. Side switching, since being announced 1+ year ago, hasn't really appealed to me.

New powersets are nice, sure, but I think I'm already at, or pass, my quota for playing new ones.

Don't mind me. Was just curious about the partnering availabe for dual pistols is all.

I don't think you understand. Praetoria is a whole new City's worth of content. You can be a Hero or Villain, go there and do lots of stuff and never change sides. Hell, you can roll a new Praetorian toon and not even deal with side-switching... you just pick your allegiance (Loyalist or Resistance) and (I think..) that determines whether you can visit Paragon (and become a Hero) or the Isles (and become a Villain).

You don't need to touch the side-switching mechanic to enjoy the vast majority of the new Praetorian content.

Maybe I mispoke saying "side switching"; I didn't mean to imply that mechanic alone.

As a whole, "Going Rogue", from what I've read/heard up to now, doesn't appeal to me. It hasn't hit me as an "oh, that sounds new and fun and different-enough" expansion like CoV did. *shrug*

I get more enjoyment reading your posts and imagining your eyes getting all glazed over and Doe-like with excitement from new things like this and other Issue updates.

The side-switching aspect doesn't appeal to me, either, but the new graphics sure are nice! I just wish I'll be able to come up with a rig that can use them. (probably not anytime soon! )

In all honestly, I'm underwhelmed with what we heard out of Hero Con, too. Ultra graphics mode? If I wanted pretty graphics I'd be playing CO (yeah, I went there). New sets? We've known about these for ages, and it's only two Primaries. Side switching? Again, they're just putting some details to gameplay we've known about forever. New Enemy Groups? Intriguing for sure... but I was hoping for more than what we saw.

My hopes for GR are pinned on all the new content that'll be in there, and that content is really hard to evaluate until you try it in Closed Beta. In a completely uncharacteristic move, I'm withholding judgement on GR until I actually play with it for a bit.

Eh, they went with the big visuals for the con, which makes sense. It's a lot easier to wow a crowd with the look of graphics or a new powerset, rather than saying "oh, we're adding x amount of map types and missions," etc. And there are other hints of what's out there, too, it didn't all happen in this short 20 something minutes.

It sounds like there will be a change up in where missions are located (missions will have locations that make sense, etc.), more content, etc.

I can't say whether it's going to be good or not, but the suggestion is that there is a lot more out there. Beta is at best 4-6 months away, so they have a long time to be tweaking features they haven't talked about. If anything, they showed us the things that are set enough in stone to talk about/have the most done on (it sounds like the whip animations took way longer to do than the dual pistols, for instance).
