Deadly Apocalypse Misinformation
Not a misconception, as such, but I rather wish there were a way to turn off the giant spammy notifications. If I'm flying solo and doing other things (which I am, a good bit of the time), I frankly do not care that the banners are vulnerable.
Telling people that Annah or Beldam will explain everything about the event.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Thanks I find this thread to be very helpful! My best friends are the best!
Its very similar to Public Quest system in Warhammer, so once I watched a once through, hovering above it all, I was like ok, I get it. Moved on

I had no idea what folks were talking about this morning when I was in PI. Now, I want in on some of this banner bashing.
It really isnt that complicated, and a lot of what is posted is just making things more complicated than they need to be.
The problems people have are pretty simple:
1)Not knowing the Deadly Apocalypse even exists.
2)Not knowing what the banners are or how to find them on their map.
3)Not realizing that all 4 banners need to be cleared simultaneously to bring vulnerability.
4)In rare cases, not realizing they need to attack the banner when the notification comes up.
5)Not realizing/using the nav to find the GM.
In other words, mostly it is interface and introduction issues (and covered well in the OP of this thread). The GMOTD didn't exactly work in relaying the basics, partly by its own fault and partly by users not really utilizing and reading the message. For most users, once they find a single banner and see the UI change, they figure it out relatively quickly. From what I've seen in the chat and on the board, that single hurdle seems to be the biggest one for most people.
Once that basic introduction happens, it's a very simple mechanic and doesnt require the kind of complexity and strategy that people are trying to apply to it. Where it works well, past that introduction, is that it takes very little complex teamwork or specifivity to function and that makes it pick up and play for all........once they understand the raw basics.
- When you first hear about the event, you've got 4 minutes to assemble your teams, find the banners, and whatnot. The 'defender' monsters spawn at 16:00 minutes even and there's no way to force them to spawn earlier or later.

You get another 20 minutes to defeat the GM after the last banner goes down, so it doesn't hurt to wait a bit to let everyone get in place to fight him. Anyone else notice any misconceptions about the event? |
Defeating the Giant Monster will grant 2 Merits and a Reward Table for a choice of Temporary Powers (see Powers below) or Medium Inspiration. Any player who has done any amount of damage to the Giant Monster and is nearby when it is defeated will get the rewards; there is no requirement to do 10% or 25% of damage. Thus, there is no need to rush to kill the Giant Monster. Players can wait until everyone in the zone gets to the GM before trying to defeat it without losing out on any rewards.Basically, the GM is using the Hamidon method of determining who gets a reward.

You get five minutes before foes spawn. One minute for the banners to spawn, then the 20 minute countdown starts. Then at 16:00, the foes spawn.

And this isn't a case of not being able to get the GM badge without first getting all four banner badges -- on another character I teamed up and got only 3 of the four banner badges, then fought the GM and got his badge. I then later got the last banner badge in another round along with the accolade.
You may only need to do any amount of damage to get the merits and reward table, but you still need to do the 10%(or whatever) damage to get the associated badge. Earlier, I participated in an apocalypse event solo and helped fight the GM. I indeed got the merits and reward table, but did not receive the badge. Later when I fought him as part of a team, I got the merits, the reward table, and the badge.

What the heck is this?
Yes, if you want any of the badges, you really need to join a team.

Right, so the event needs coordinated attacks across all banners at the same time? Well, there go my efforts to contribute. Let's hope someone is recruiting next time that happens.

Note: I got the badge for the Aspect without having any other badge associated with the event, or even doing any damage to it. I just joined a team that was already fighting it, and they killed it while I was en route. That got me the badge.

Thanks to @EnsonsDeath for the GVE code that made me VIP again!
Thanks for the guide!
Even tho i knew what to do other ppl might find this very useful!
The event still seems to be SOL for the low levels, especially Kings Row. There's never anyone there to take part in it, and the monsters are BRUTAL when you're this low level. From where I'm standing, this isn't doable in Kings Row at all.

The riffraff in Atlas Park on Virtue last night was colossally well-organized. I was on a team of 50's hopping zone to zone chasing the events and missed two of the banners in Atlas. The low level folks are slower in tracking down the Aspect when he spawns (sans travel powers and all), but no less brutal in curb-stomping him and his pals.

It's very frustrating when teams show up and kill a banner they "need" without consideration for any other teams in the zone. That's the one good way to grief the event.

You can click the banner icon int he navi to get it marked as a target, this means you can just go down the line from red down.
It's far better to get everyone to one banner then the next, then the next, etc.

Last night on CoV, our team split up with 2 players on each banner. We got each Banner badge, the GM badge and the accolade all in one run.
Trying to get 30-40 people in a zone to stop attacking a banner and "meet at the red banner to start" was akin to herding cats while walking on my hands.
It occurs that a lot of people really aren't understanding how the event works. It's pretty complex, honestly, but if you remember a few key facts, you'll be okay.
First, the best source for information on it so far (isn't it always!?) is the wiki: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Deadly_Apocalypse .
- When you first hear about the event, you've got 5 minutes to assemble your teams, find the banners, and whatnot. The 'defender' monsters spawn at 16:00 minutes on the timer even and there's no way to force them to spawn earlier or later.
- You must have players fighting at all four banner locations before you get the 'blue bar' of Banner Vulnerability. I've found that if you have about two groups in zone, it works best for each group to split up its teammembers and send 2 to each banner. Your mileage may vary, but you won't make any progress at all, unless you have people fighting at all 4 banners
- Once the banners are vulnerable, then it's a really good idea to regroup all players on one banner and beat it down rather than stay spread out. This requires a little buy-in from the other-teams, but once people've seen it work a few times, they pick it up very quickly. I've found that if you tell people 'Red', 'Blue', 'Green', 'Purple' in the order that they appear across the nav bar that it's less confusing.
- The 'distance to aspect' counter is a radius. It tells you how far you are from the GM that appears after the last banner goes down. It's not a 'zone location' like you'd receive from '/loc'.
- You get another 20 minutes to defeat the GM after the last banner goes down, so it doesn't hurt to wait a bit to let everyone get in place to fight him.
Anyone else notice any misconceptions about the event?
