Not having played at previous Halloweens, I can't really compare.... but I will say that I've given up on ToT'ing with anything but my strongest characters - the couple low-mid alts that I tried just got slaughtered. Between the high rate of bosses, and the very common accuracy debuffs.... whee?

(My 20 elec/elec scrapper, and my 20 dark/will both got beat pretty hard. The dark even got almost taken down by a witch lieut.)

Edit: while turning in some costume sets, tested another lowbie. 14 MA/Inv scrapper. First try: Vamp boss, pumpkin man, witch minion. Held repeatedly by the vamp (don't have resists yet), superjumped away as soon as the hold cleared. Second try: two witch lieuts. Figured I could beat em, so I hung on. Immobilized repeatedly, used several green Insps, died with one LT down, other still at 100%.

It'd also be nice if the GM had a bit of an invulnerability delay, so that people can get to it before the faster groups take it down. Might just be a flawed perception, but it seems like the banners take longer to kill.

-----

That said.... it's alot of fun. And the wide variety of costumes are great! (I love my Knives of Artemis, Harlequin, Crey Agent, and PPD Hardsuit costumes. Sad that they'll be gone in two weeks.)

I'd heard about the increased difficulty on ToT spawns, so I went ToTing with my level 8 Dark/Traps Corr last night. Solo. It was challenging, and I died a few times (debt, what debt?), but I got a complete set of salvage and level 9 out of it.

Agree that the event GM could stand some buffing. It seemed like the banners had more HP than he did.

The luster of seasonal events wore off for me some time ago, but I have to give credit to the dev team for coming out with something new for this Halloween. They could have easily just rehashed the same old event but chose to go the extra mile.

The only negative I can think of is the mission settings don't effect the door spawn size. Had the settings done so I would ToT, but fighting such small spawns is no longer any fun after fighting 8 man spawns solo.

While I did think that this would have been nice (no bosses!), there could be problems with unintended consequences in public areas.

Like, it's already annoying when you're running your 33 around a 30-40 zone ToT'ing, and you run into a 39 boss that someone ran off and left there. Now imagine if you were ToT'ing along and ran afoul of someone's 8x/+4 spawn.

(And *now* think of the jerk griefer - there's got to be a few, even in this game - who deliberately runs around spawning max-zone-level x8/+4 groups in the lowest level areas of the zone. And stealths/teleports/flies away leaving them to slaughter lowbies.)

The same can be said for normal spawns of a higher level in zones. The ToT spawns go after the person that triggered the door. Others should just avoid the mobs like they do normal spawns until they go away.

But it's not a big deal, there are plenty of other things for me to beat up on!

I like the fact that all the lights go out when the event starts, too. The arena looks particularly odd when not lit up. I do like the little details like this that are thrown in.

Ditto. Jaded, we have become.

I got a chance to partake in two events last night. Unfortunately, at the end of the first one, the Aspect wandered into the side of a mountain behind the Midnighter's Club and was untargetable.

In the 2nd event, the banners and GM dropped so quickly, our smaller team of 5 had no shot at doing significant damage, so we got no credit. Still had a good time.

In both cases, things were a wonderful chaotic kaleidoscope of custom colors and critters. At least twice, I tried to target custom mobs (red/white singularities and green imps) thinking they were part of the mobs.

ToT spawns used to consist of three-minion or lieutenant+minion spawns for solo players. No bosses for solo players, except rarely in the first year. The Dead Head badge (for the zombies) was pretty easy to get. Last year they made the spawns perma-aggro on the character. Prior to that you could leave the critters at the door, or use invisibility to click on doors safely and attack when convenient.

This year you now have frequent spawns of two lieutenants, a lone boss, a boss + two minions, and a boss + lieutenant. That can be very rough for many lower level characters, especially considering how often those spawns show up. And those seem to have replaced most of the three-minion spawns, making it take much longer to get the Dead Head badge.

Ok, so it wasn't just my inagination. ToTing seemed much harder last night than in previous years. [Not a bad thing per se, though I can see low-level toons having a hard time]

Last year, we found a spot where we could get up to 5 doors to trigger into a relatively small area and had HUGE, crazy fights there that would push non-maxed-out toons to the limit, but had very few wipes.

This year, same location, and we wiped quite a number of times with a smal/mid-sized team. I wasn't sure if the SSKing was afffecting the spawns somehow, or if the genreal diff had just been raised.

I love the sound of the war walls dropping when the Rikti Invade, or the dum dum dum music when the zombie invasion starts.

I was said to not notice any particularly cool sound for the apocalypse event.

Thats not to say however that I don't love it. ^_^

Yes, don't you just hate MMOs that have too much content?

A minority opinion. Don't really think much of this years event. Try doing this with a solo low level elec/elec scrapper fighting all the neg energy damage.

I think yours is the minority opinion. The vast majority of people I've seen have loved the new stuff, just crummy for the long-long-long wait between Deadlies, which will be fixed next week!

I hate the new event.

The banners con as GMs for badge credit apparently so if you dont have a team of 8 you plain wont get badges from it .

Needless to say I dont even bother showing up to the zone anymore because I always end up on a team of 3.

Its far less fun when you show up to every single ******* ******* stupid-*** banner, help take them down, and get NOTHING for it all 4 times while desperately asking for a team only to realize theyre all full.

I havent. I've attacked the banners on all sorts of teams. never gotten a single badge.

Ever.

so I've given up.

First two characters I did the event on, I was on a team of 4-5, got all six badges (four banners, GM and "everything") in a single go.

Good to know. I've done the event 4 times on my main. Havent seen a single badge yet from any of it.

Its not just the long wait, i really really wish the devs had given thought to the idea of scaling the event to the zone populations.

Its bad enough waiting it seems like forever to get a villian side banner raid on Liberty, but then the event gets ruined by there not being enough people on or taking part to complete it.

It kinda makes it feel like the old Rikti raids where you had like 6 team members taking part but the elite bosses would never spawn and that was the only badge you still needed. The rate of spawns and the ability to attack the banners and the banners difficulty would have been nice to have been scaled to the amount of heroes/villians that were in range of the banner during the event. Tonight we had one team pounding on a banner for 5 minutes and never even was able to take down that one banner. Granted you could chaulk that up to team make up and buffing etc. But it took forever just to get enough badies killed to open up the banners with the amount of people taking part.

Not everyone can play during rush hours to get good results, and not everyone plays on virtue and triumph. It would be nice to see that taken into account.

The one thing that really ticks me off is when someone tries to dismis another person's opinion with a cheap put-down, this is a great example. you have no census of the players, you have no idea what the "opinion" is, either majority or minority, and you simply make yourself look foolish claiming you do. The event is not meant to solo, so trying it solo would be unrealistic. it is a group event, simple as that, if your build is optimized and can pull a solo, great, but 4 focus points filled with spawns should give you some idea of how it is meant to be handled.
