Chosen Character: Frozen Memories
Archetype and Sets: Ice/Mental Blaster
Given Bio: Frozen Memories is a living conduit for the forgotten thoughts and memories of pain, suffering, and sorrow from a cold, frozen plane of Purgatory. It is his duty to take in the forgotten thoughts and channel them to where they belong. He has come to our plane of existence to punish those who have created an increase in the thoughts of pain to attempt to restore balance to his world. He is a very calm and collective hero with an intolerance for malice and a a cold and rough outer shell.
I was given the three following costume options and used them all to design my ummm... design. heh:http://s796.photobucket.com/albums/y...en%20Memories/
I was influenced the most by this one in particular, the light battle armor look
Expanded Bio (unfortunately not too concise, sorry bout that):
Jacob Brennan was yer average guy, just trying to live a normal life, or as normal a life one could in Paragon City. With heroics being an everyday thing, he at least tried to be an average upstanding person as well and stop crime in ways he was able. While having good intentions, like many, being brave wasn't so easy for Jacob. While riding a bike down the streets of Talos Island, suddenly he heard a scream from an alleyway. Pedaling as hard as he could, he reached the opening to the alley, and peered down the way to indeed see a lady in trouble. Two robed ninjas were there as well, threatening her.
As much as Jacob wanted to help, the sight of the ninja scared him, and he raced away, fearing for his own life. He got as far as the end of the block before he came across a hero patrolling the area. Getting the attention of the hero, he frantically pointed back towards the alley and managed to get out that someone needed help. The bold, brave hero smiled and saluted Jacob, before telling him "Good job, son," before speeding off to the alleyway.
Jacob sat on his bicycle, awestruck at the hero, and just mindlessly watched him dart to the alleyway opening and then disappear into the opening. Not knowing if the lady was ok or what was happening, Jacob pedaled his way back to the alley opening and looked in. He saw the hero standing there comforting the young lady, both ninja crumpled on the floor. The hero noticed Jacob looking on and flashed a smiled again, giving him a thumbs up. Jacob smiled, relieved, but also felt a little bit of regret, and due to so rode off away as hard as he could. While there was a hero there to save the day, Jacob felt regretful about his own actions. He would live out his life this way, always wanting to do something, but never having enough courage to do so.
This wouldn't go unnoticed by the Higher Powers that Be. Upon his death he would be selected as an Agent charged with maintaining Purgatory. When told of this assignment, Jacob expressed that he didn't feel he deserved an honored spot. The Higher Powers agreed, and declared that it would be both and honor and a punishment of his actions on Earth. Jacob broke down and admitted that so many times he froze at the times when he really wished he didn't and the thoughts and memories of those times haunted him. The Higher Powers declared that Jacob would be known as "Frozen Memories" so his Earthly endeavors would always be part of him, to be a reminder to himself as well as the new souls entering Purgatory.
The day would come when Purgatory was ushering more souls into its plains than a realm of its kind could bear to contain. This caused the Higher Powers to react and to charge one of its own to intercede in the Earth realm. Given Jacob's past of regret, sorrow and base want to do good, the Powers sent him back to Earth, not as Jacob Brennan, but as the being only known as Frozen Memories.
Redesigned look:
Commentary:
This is more of section to explain myself, since his look is quite a different take on any of the three forms given. Couple of things influenced, this. Actually, just one main theme really. I saw the words "living conduit" and Purgatory and the general idea of a being from one of the metarealms and boom I had Spawn like ideas running all through my head. Prolly doesn't help that I'm anticipating the whole Image United comic thing, but regardless, a Spawn similar entity popped into my head and that's where my costume and bio writing took me. The bio is just my way of giving Frozen a human/person existence before he/it was it in a Spawnverse like manner. I even tried to connect the name to the hero as I usually like to do. Brennan is loosely meaning "sorrow"
Regarding the costume design, yeah... I took a page from the Spawnverse on this one and went along the lines of the Redeemer and other beings from the Spawn comics. It seemed fitting. I stuck with the colors, as it still gave Frozen a presence, just tweaked what details gave him the presence. Stuck with the various additions to his costume as they fit the persona, added the thorns as it struck me as something that would be incorporated into his being for the sharp striking painful memories. The cape and crown and skull motifs just seemed to fit as well to give him a regal/baron stature, as well as the immediate presence one would feel the first time one sees him.
Well, that's my redesign. I hope GeneralKnowledge like this. If not or not totally, it's cool, I know this was a bit of a yank in the design of the character. Nevertheless, the character is/was cool before I got it and I had a fun time designing my version of it.

Slag Heap: Why you hurt Guardian!? Guardian no hurt you!
Wow, that is a totally different way then I thought this would go, and I love it. Hericane that is awesome. Almost 360 on what I thought Memories was but it's still super cool. I imagined Memories as a sort of quasi guardian of thoughts from another realm but this is a much better bio for him. Too much better......*sabotages Hericane's computer* That'll teach you to make something awesome for me.
In all seriousness this is great, I really like it.
Alot of these costumes rawk. Seriously. I especially like El Hijo del Sol/Diablo, but I'm a sucker for Luchadores.
Love love love El Hijo Del Diablo!
Anyway, what I was given was:
Sorry it took me so long to figure something out, but I was hoping that I could come at it from another angle than my initial idea. No such luck, so here's what I've come up with.
What if it wasn't only Puck's Eye that drove people crazy? Immortality, and the passage of time, especially on an already destabilized mind, might enhance the effect. And who is to say that the immortality is of the sort that was sought... this isn't the fountain of youth, after all. The only thing guaranteed is that you'll live forever. Not to be young and beautiful forever.
What if in addition to a slow rotting of the mind, the body is decaying as well?
So I took a few zombie parts, used the blast pattern over the skirt to show how threadbare it is becoming, and darkened or yellowed fabrics and fur to show that while she might have once been wearing the height of fashion, her wardrobe has been ruined as surely as her mind and body.
Sorry I couldn't come up with anything better, PeteyCat.
Don't apologize, man! It's awesome! I've wanted to have a more... disturbing option for her for a while, this works perfectly.
Just wanted to say thanks to Calash (and everyone else for that matter, there have been some cool characters). I used a slightly modified version of Infernal Blaze for one of Dawn Blaze's slots, and I'm liking the way it came out.
Thanks again.
Ooh, pretty
I am glad you liked the design and that it inspired you.
Xzero45 gave me this:
At a young age Sirus Flint had always been a bully. He used force and persuasion to get what he wanted, causing him to get into trouble numerous times. His superhero father, who had the ability to create and control fire, was hardly around and his mother had passed away when Sirus was 6. This caused him to feel very detached from his family, to the point that he left home at the age of 14 and snuck onboard various ships until he found himself in the Etoile Islands. He joined a gang, but that was short-lived as an Infected thug attacked him in an alley way one day. The thug, having more strength than Sirus, nearly killed the young teenager until his hereditary powers inherited from his father had kicked in, allowing him to easily burn the thug alive. The Longbow that were stationed in the area heard about the super-powered threat and proceeded to arrest Sirus before he could make it back to his gang. He spent two years in the Zig, until he became a part of a small breakout and managed to escape. Sirus traveled the world, gaining power and notoriety until, at the age of 24, he returned to the Rogue Islands, promising to stir things up a great deal. Now 27, Sirus, a.k.a. X-zero, has become an incredibly powerful super villain with a wealth of items and money gained from his various criminal exploits. Like all good villains, his goals involve global domination and a new world order. |
I decided to take the history of the character and turn it upside down...
At a young age Sirus Flint had always been a target for bullies. At a young age he learned to use wile and persuasion to overcome his tormenters and get what he wanted, often tricking his former tormentors into taking the fall for plans he masterminded. His superhero father, who had the ability to create and control fire, was hardly around and his mother had passed away when Sirus was 6. This caused him to feel very detached from his family, to the point that he left home at the age of 14 and snuck onboard various cruise ships, using his guile and wits to pass as a rich, pampered customer until he found himself in the Etoile Islands.
Sirus didn't find the denizens of Etoile as easy to influence and trick. For his own safety he joined a gang and after studying the unique hierachy and politics of the group he positioned himself to be the brains of the operation, pulling the strings of the operation through the puppet the old leader had become. This new life was relatively short lived as an Infected thug attacked him in an alley way one day. He spent two years in the Zig, until he was swept up in a small breakout and managed to escape.
Sirus traveled the world once more, gaining power through his wits and brains and avoiding notoriety. Once more he set himself up as the brains behind powerful figures. The few times his wits and trickery did not allow him to achieve the results he wanted he had no qualms about resorting to a more physical form of persuasion.
At the age of 24, he returned to the Rogue Islands with plans of stirring up the power structure once more. Now 27, Sirus, a.k.a. X-zero, has become an incredibly rich and powerful super villain with a goons and henchman at the ready to carry out his various criminal schemes. Sirus believes that real power is the control of others but accepts the needs to occasionally get his own hands dirty. Like all good villains, his goals involve global domination and a new world order.
Quite simply I decided to re-imagine the character as super villian more akin to a Kingpin or Lex Luthor. Why get down in the much when you can convince others to do it for you? Still, he remains quite capable of handling thims himself in a pinch. As such, I went for a simplified business like image but with a bit of edge. The work boots are handy to have sycophants kiss or to kick in the head of one who angers you (after your henchman have beat them down for you.) The hands show a bit of jail tats which are a constant reminder of the power structure he strives to overthrown.
Sorry if this isn't quite the take you were hoping for on him...
I was paired with Turkey Lurkey, and given one of his sidekicks, Turkey Lass.
Here is her original look and brief info:
http://turkeycreaux.deviantart.com/a...-Refs-97437450
Here's my re-imagining:
Turkey Lass
Turkey Lass was mortified! She'd left her small village and traveled thousands of miles to join the famous superhero, Turkey Lurkey, as his sidekick. Armed with the famous Turkish composite horn bow, and the power to strike evildoers with her mind itself, she had looked forward so eagerly to helping him fight infidels as a representative of her proud and warlike country. Imagine her confusion and embarassment when she discovered he was named after that OTHER kind of turkey! Unable to swallow her pride and slink home, she vowed to ignore the misunderstanding, endure the taunts and jeers of the criminal element, and carry on with her mission to fight crime and represent Turkish national interests. She just prayed that no one back home had a working television! |

For reference, here are some traditional Turkish wedding dresses. Note how complex and layered they are; the costume creator isn't designed for this sort of exotic use.

Nice, I really like what you did with X. I like how you didn't throw out the backstory but instead tweaked it very slightly, but in a cool way.
Now I'm just waiting on you to send me your character
I was matched up with Clobbertime:
Clobbertime's story is...
So the original Clobbertime was gifted with some ancient magical power which has made him into a super fighter but he retains a violent edge. I decided to play these angles up in my revamp. I wanted to refrain from making something obvious for "Clobbertime" such as a hulking brute but instead made his power's origins a bit more obvious:
My thought here was to make him a bit more unworldly without going overboard. He has the more subdued glowing eyes, the vampire ears (which are less obvious than the elf/imp ears) and I tried to dress him in somewhat similar colors but in a new way. His chest contains the Baroque pattern which I thought hinted at mystical origins without being an obvious "rune" or "glyph" pattern. His various belts remind me of the Eidolon. The chains on his hands help give his punches more... punch without making him all bulked up. I tried to give his outfit a somewhat menacing quality to depict his violent nature without making him look like a villain since he's not evil... just slightly unhinged. I kept the blue and black but shifted the goldish color more towards green to reflect perhaps a tie to some fae or earthy type spirits who may have given his ancestors their gift.
Hope you like the idea!
Let's see where we stand now. By the way, nice stuff everyone! Links go to the wrong place right now, will fix tomorrow.

Sorry it's taking me so long, but was having a tough time on deciding what to do with Polish Princess, but have an idea kicking around now. I'll have it done before the weekend is over.
Haha... I hadn't quite sold myself on the ears but, hey, whatcha gonna do?
Ja. So, I got a late entry matchup with the tuter king, and he gave me his toon Mr. Jenson a DM/SR Brute to work with:
The toon's bio is that he uses the shadows to create clothes for himself (Did he wake up without them oneday, and not want to go searching the surrondings for his missing clothing articles, so he made a deal with the devil and got shadows for clothes?), always nice clothes. Ja, so I'm thinking. . . how about a little darker for those shadows? After a scrapped rough draft, I finally came up with this dumpling:
I even got a cool action shot:
Ja, a Behemoth Overlord was harmed in the making of that picture.
As a side note, Mr. Jenson's New Clothes was performed by King Darksource, my DA/DM Tanker, so the those nasty tendrils around his body are the toggles that character uses.
GIVE TANKS DARKNESS/ELECTRICAL MASTERY! =3

Oh that is a cool look. Kind of looks like a detective
I was paired up with Jophiel and she presented the character Polish Princess for a makeover. Here is the original info I was sent. It took me a while but I finally decided to go the old 'What If?' route. In looking over her bio I asked myself, 'What if the accident that had created her had not been an accident?'. So I came up with this new bio:
Anja Holownia's mother, Sophia, was a graduate student in physics at Krakow's Jagiellonian University in 1976 when the University scientists received a package containing Nazi experimentation equipment abandoned after the war. One of the scientists had developed feelings for Sophia and in an attempt to woo her, he confided in her that he and some others were part of a 5th Column cell and that the equipment had been sent for use in human experimentation. He had hoped she would accept his invitation to join thier research, but when she refused and threatened to alert the authorities he panicked and abducted her. She became a part of the research as a test subject.
It was during a subsequent examination that her pregnancy was discovered. The scientists grew excited over the following months, for while Sophia slowly succumbed and withered to the effects of the radiation exposure from the machine, the developing child growing within her remained strong and vital, apparently unaffected by the radiation.
When Anja was born Sophia was no longer needed and was eliminated. The scientist that had been so infatuated with Sophia took the infant into his home and raised her to be loyal to the 5th Column. As was hoped, she developed powers brought on by mutations from her exposure to the radiation used against her mother during those early experiments. Now fully grown, adhering to strict discipline, and firmly believing in the 5th Column's dogma, she has become a member of that organization's elite meta soldiers. As her operative identification she has chosen the name 'The 5th Queen'.
That's pretty cool. It's the Praetorian version of Polish Princess!
I had Sailboat's character, L'Oriflamme.
L'Oriflamme In 1789, young Chantal S'Embraser was no friend of the dissolute monarchy of France, but an historian by trade. When the revolutionaries came to the abbey of St.-Denis to destroy the artifacts there, she could not bear to let them take the Oriflamme, legendary war banner of Charlemagne. Over the centuries it had been raised to signify the Kings of France committing to war! Unfortunately, the revolutionaries' sense of grievance outweighed their sense of history, and in the riot, Chantal was burned along with the Oriflamme. Chantal had performed no miracles, and was not a candidate for sainthood. But the simple purity of her short life and her death in defense of history made an impression in Heaven, and she was granted a rare honor. Chantal was elevated to Angelic status, recreated as an Aspect of War. After centuries of training, she has returned to earth -- not for vengeance, but to mete out justice with a flaming sword! Chantal = song, S'embraser = to inflame, to rise in arms! http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...3-20-10-26.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...3-20-10-26.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...Oriflamme1.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...Oriflamme1.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...Oriflamme1.jpg |
The sword was an approximation of a flaming sword.

Wow so sorry for the tardiness McBoo, it's been a really busy month for custom building computers and I have several
drawings I am trying to work on at once (most notably the prize for the CanonBrawl event needs to get done so I can turn it over to Eddy Swan
and give him time to color it.) and I just keep putting the posting of this off. Determined to get it posted up tonight no matter how late it gets,
so without further ado here is what McBoo gave me...

The boy was sealed in an unwieldy containment chamber that looked something like a cross between a wheelchair and an iron lung. Despite the stress of all the tests and his own pain Daniel never seemed to lose heart. Unfortunately nothing could be done to impede the breakdown of his skeletal structure and the damage to his internal organs and the rest of his body became excruciatingly painful. Daniel was placed in a chemically induced coma to spare him the pain of what everyone assumed were his final days. Days later, Daniel came out of the coma apparently in good spirits even though all that remained of the boy was a charred skull and cloud of greenish plasma. The boy seemed completely unaware of his physical state, a fact that remains true today. He was transferred from the containment unit to a containment suit that allows him to interact with the world around him more normally. The suit is equipped with a small communication and sensor unit that has replaced his eyes, ears and voice. (The "eyes" on the costume are simply painted on.) Daniel has remained with Project Legend as they try to find a way to explain his transformation and although he is not an official superhero; he is often caught up in some fantastic adventures as a result of his association with Project Legend. |
himself in a massive (huge body type) bulky containment suit after being in the body of a small boy for as long as he could remember.
If/when the team of doctors came around and told him they were working on a new and improved suit for him, now that he is stable,
and wanted his input on what would make it more comfortable/livable to him... what might he ask for?
What I came up with is the idea that in order for him to expel radiation and not diminish himself into eventual nothingness his "body" would
need to be constantly producing the greenish plasma and he might not have learned any control of it at this early stage thus the huge size
of the original suit made sense because it had to be able to contain a potentially large amount of Plasma until such time as he had chance
to expel some of it through combative use of his powers or safely discharging in a sealed radiation containment zone.
So then high on the list (if it were me) would be a body more like what I was used too in size and mass which would mean there would have
to be a way to have a safe, controlled and constant venting of plasma. Also it felt right to me that Daniel would actually come to terms
with what he had become almost immediately and on some level think it was really totally rad (lol) to have a skull for a head (children are so
much more accepting of their situation in this regard) and since that is what he really looks like now he might actually want this depicted for
his helm... only cooler.
Daniel: "Whatta bout' a gold skull? Kin ah have a gold skull pleaseeeee... cuz that would be awesome... an' a silver robotic suit would be neat
and oooh I gotta have some green stuff on my suit cuz thats what color my powers are... green."
So a short 12 year old body, check! A lanky build, check! A silver robot suit, check! An external sensor array to enable him to "see"
(went with two, one on either side of the helm for depth perception), check!
A gold skull with specially designed "plasma venting" ducts recessed into the eye sockets and bright green stuffz, check and check!
Here then is what I came up with... hope you like it.
Note: I didn't have a level 30 hero, with rad powers, that was a male so these are actually Ice/ empathy powers (except for the images
lacking the eyes aura) but hey you get the idea.
Character: Arctic Silver

Arctic Silver Bio
I didn't see any reason to change the original bio but CR mentioned wanting to do a "post accident" costume so I went that route. First we start with the physical trauma of being immersed in arctic silver.
As you can see Dr. Silver has had quite an ordeal. His lowered body temperature is freezing moisture in the air to his skin. Skin which is already on fire trying to cope with the relative intense heat of room temperature. In desperation the good doctor seals himself in a hastily constructed containment suit allowing him to gradually increase the temperature within the suit as he became more adept at controlling his abilities.
Finally I decided I was having so much fun that I did an upgrade to the original costume. I feel like it puts a modern spin on the original costume without sacrificing the core look of the character. I left in a couple of pieces from the containment suit because I like the idea that the final costume is just a progression from the containment suit. I especially like the way the goggles, hood, gloves and boots give it kind of an arctic parka feel. I apologize for the small images but Photobucket always seems to shrink them for some reason.
This was a lot of fun! Hope y'all like it!
>
(Edited because the embedded images made it hard to read IMO)
I really the like pre-final "physical trauma" and "containment suit" too.
I may go ahead and make his third suit all metalic skin and radiating cold tendrils like the trauma shot as well. Great job!
Let's see what I can come up with for yours now.
