Lost a slot because online store goes down?

It's pretty much all in the title, I logged in around 4pm CST with my open slot on virtue then I log in at 7:11pm (srsly) and the character slot I had purposely opened up last night to roll a toon this evening is now unvailable because the online store is down. I really don't see how the online store being down should effect my open slots in anyway at all, so I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else and will I be able to get my slot back at all?

The store being down means any slots over the base 12 are temporarily unavailable to roll new characters on.

As soon as the store comes back up, the slot will be there.

You don't see how the online store where you bought the extra slot being down would affected the availability of that slot? </sarcasm>

It's happened before, from what I can tell it has something to do with NCsoft site maintenance. My 3 open slots on Liberty are also unavailable at the moment.

This is very unacceptable.

Frankly? No. Once the slot is purchased, it blows major chunks that it relies on the store for verification. The way this functions is analogous to being unable to use costumes containing pieces bought from a booster pack because the booster was bought from the NCSoft online store.

Do I get how they could have designed the system this way? Sure. Until I saw them post about it back when they were announcing the vet rewards, I never would have dreamed they did design it that way.

Yea, have to agree. Once it is unlocked it should stay unlocked. From this it seems they reverify every time you log in that each slot is "purchased" or not. Sorry, but that is beyond the pale of bad software design, IMHO.

2nd night in a row of this occuring, and at the same time period.

Oh, and other times that the store has been down BEFORE i16, u were still able to use those unlocked slots.. its not letting ya now.. something is screwy

Ummm.... no, you couldn't. It's because of the way they coded the slot sales. They were coded to verify against the store in case of billing issues and because you need to be connected to servers to play in the first place.

Worse, you apparently lose the slot if you delete the character occupying the purchased slot. I deleted a character with the intention of re-creating him, and now the slot is unavailable. Fingers crossed no one takes my name before the store comes back up!

Ah, well, if I had bad altitis and had no slots to spare this would defenitely piss me off.

They might want to do something bout that >.>

I have this too, good to hear it's only a temp issue.
Wanted to make a new toon and deleted my only villian on Union shard, but didn't get that slot back for a new toon.

This strikes me as just plain wrong.

After 2 weeks faffing about trying to buy extra slots in the first place as we all know, handing over money to NCSoft is almost as hard as building ikea furniture if you are over the age of 12, I find I can't actually use them because the store is down.

Can a redname explain to us why we are unable to use something we have actually handed over cash for please? and a time frame to correct this situation.

In all seriousness it is very, very sloppy coding. Do I see the store checking to verify the costume pieces, temp powers and what have you that you purchase from the various packs? No.

Poor show NCSoft, Poor show.

I havent even ever bought slots ever not once but I did get 2 for free for something I can't remember what. So I delete one of my freedom toons and then instantly the slot becomes locked. What gives? all my slots on freedom are full thats why i needed to delete someone.

I was unable to sleep last night so at 3am BST I logged in and I wanted to create a new character, but I have 12 slots filled on Defiant (+2 empty slots) and 20 slots filled on Union (+4 empty slots), so I couldn't even enter the character creator on both English servers. Just logged in now (12.30pm BST) and still the same situation. Not overly impressed tbh.

Yet my recollection is the same as Infinite Zero's. The online store has been down loads of times in the past (it seems to happen quite often during EU peaktimes - probably so as not to disrupt anyone during US peaktimes ) - pestering me with that pop-up notification window upon log-in - and yet I've still been able to access all my slots at those times (every time before today/I16, basically).

I always assumed that slot sales were recorded on our NCSoft global accounts as a perk (like super-booster packs are) - I certainly have more perk codes than there are super-boosters in existence - and that if we could log in we would have access to everything we had paid for.

I guess I'm just not convinced this isn't a newly introduced bug. ArcticFahx, do you have a link to the Dev post explaining how slot sales were coded? Was that confirmed or is it just your assumption? Sorry to doubt you, but I don't recall seeing anything about it on Dev Tracker.

Yep. Been a good 4 or 5 hours now, still no online store, still no access to the slot.

My recollection is very much the same, previous times the store has been down I have had no problems accessing any of my slots or rerolling new alts.

Whatever this is, it just ain't funny.

Phew! Glad I'm not the only one.

I was looking at three missing slots on one account and four on the other. I figured that the Online Store being down would be asociated with this problem.

Ive got to agree, it seems a bit of an odd way for this to work, not to mention a huge pain in the rear end. Especially if you decide to roll up a new character in a slot you paid cold hard money for, which is what I was just about to do.

This I am not too sure about as I had a purchased slot open and available last night while the store was offline. I was unable to claim any others, but my empty slot did not go away because the store was offline.

Back when extra slots were very first available, an announcement post came out advising people to be sure to claim their veteran ones because there was a limited window of availability. There was a small uproar over this, and ultimately the message about limited availability was modified or retracted, but during the discussion the link between the on-line store and the extra slots was mentioned. I think this was back when Lighthouse was still the community liaison, and that it was one of his posts.

The reason this loss of slots doesn't always happen when the store is unavailable may be that there are different degrees of "unavailable". The common version we may experience most times is "you may not use the store, but its back-end data source is still available for game validation". Whatever is up with it currently is apparently (based on duration) very extensive, and perhaps that means that everything about it is unavailable.

BTW...the store is down for me too, but ALL of my slots are still available...even the added empty ones.
