I miss finding a team quickly. Any tips?

So back before i16, finding a team was as simple as walking to Cap au Diable and spamming broadcast. Sure, you ended up in a farm team, but you -did- end up in a team -fast-. I find the solo gameplay CoX offers to pale in comparison to a real single player game like Fallout, Bioshock, or Ratchet and Clank, so the ability to get a team fast was a huge plus for me.

Last night, I spent 6 hours LFT on a 50 crab. Turned on the /search window, asked in coalition, asked in VU2009 a couple times, no response.

Normally I'd just start my own team, but there were zero corrupters LFT when I checked. I checked every half hour, -for 6 hours-. So I worked on my build instead. I ended up spending that time blowing 80m and replacing all but two powers worth of generic IOs with set IOs.

Where are people at, and what are they doing? Last I checked, Crabs were in demand redside for the defense aura, awesome AoE and pets. Have people gone back to blueside now that AE was gutted? Is everyone in some other zone? Was the hami raid really -that- big of an impact?

I saw ITFs filling up almost instantly in VU2009 so I know there were people out there playing, but I didn't get so much as a tell all night. Is it me? Have I somehow committed some unspeakable gaming sin I'm unaware of? What's the best way to fish for invites in this game post-nerf?

Time of day seems to be the biggest issue. There are just times when everyone is working or asleep and it will be difficult to find any kind of team.

Heroes : Angrem (50 Stone tank), Exo Inferis (50 Fire blaster), Exo Proteus (50 ill/emp), IceVengance (50 cold defender)
Villains : AtomBomb (50 Rad/Kin corruptor), Aleks (50 SS/Inv brute), StoneLethal (50 EM/Stone brute), Davroz (50 Bots/Dark mastermind)

Invest in starting that team regardless of what you see live in the /sea. If you send out signals in a few good globals, people will -switch- to join you.

SG
broadcast/request
VU2009
Virtue LFG Alpha
etc..

Did I overlook a sticky somewhere? Am I correct in guessing that's a global LFG channel?

Virtue LFG Alpha (looking for group) is a public channel. It was once simply Virtue LFG.

Alpha has around 1400+ members and is active. I just saw folks chatting there.

Edit/Add:

Seconds ago.. "[Virtue LFG Alpha]C******r: Anything going on? lv49 Corr need XP "

So yeah. It's alive! <runs for the hills>

Alright, I'll try that.

Also added a note to the virtue channels sticky, which was still pointing to the defunct "Virtue LFG" channel. I tried that one for a moment, saw nothing, bailed.

Now I know where to point the other poor fools who try fishing for a team in VU2009. Thanks!

It's great for TF/SF teams though. Just have to know the strength of each major public channel.

I've also found that if broadcasts + the LFG channel don't get it, sending tells to people who aren't teamed and politely asking them if they'll join you usually works for anything but TFs. It's not ideal, and it annoys some people, but you have to remember that it seems like a very small minority uses the LFT flags to begin with. Is it what I'd do in a perfect world? Hell no. But it works.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

If you really want to grab someone's attention when forming a team, use their name like you know them.

"Hey Grae, got a x level teaming running, want in?"

You would be suprised how often people will join than not.

LFT flags are either a hit or miss. Sometimes people use it, but that's a minority of people. Much more people do not even know the flag is there, or they know it's there but it's a pain to use it. I usually just put my quick info in the search tag.

What's rude to do (to me, at least) is send an invite then if I say no, you send another one. Or if someone sends me a tell and an invite within 3 seconds... as bad as a blind invite (unless the invite comes from somebody inside the zone if I say 'LFG' inside it)

Tried and true strategy in games and life, people love the sound of their own name.

OP: I'm not sure what advice I can offer. I play on freedom and have been really struggling to find teams since i16 dropped. I'm on the other end of the spectrum and playing lowbies (all sub 20), but finding teams on my elec/kin corr and my elec/fire scrapper has been an exercise in frustration.

The new system makes teams more accessible, but I'm finding way less happening. I'm wondering if we have hit all-time low subs or something with school, Aion, CO and even Fallen Earth all happening at the same time. Or everyone is on their pimped toons seeing how difficult they can make a mission and still solo it. I even resorted to advertising my elec/kin as a <shudder> healer thinking peeps just might be unfamilair with kin. It's bleak.

I was good with your post till this:

You don't need a corruptor to run a successful team. In fact villain side you arguably don't need any specific combination of ATs to do well. So thats my first suggestion, stop thinking you need X,Y,Z or the team is no go.

If you need support you can look for a MM as well, but trust me I've run plenty of melty awesome villain side pugs without a single corruptor.

Not being preachy just saying.

Also if I'm hard up for a team I check VU 2009, or I hit up the RWZ or Cimerora if I'm high enough. I make sure my LFG flag is up and I also check with my coalition and SG people on global.

But worst case I just go ahead and look to see who is LFG and form up a team.

Good luck though.

I just log in. Found a great team and ran for 3 hours last night, and going to do the same thing tonight. Being part of the Repeat Offenders Network helps. I'm pretty sure the same thing happens to Grae when he logs into the Paragonian Knights. A strong coalition does wonders for team making. Good luck.

funny, i've had way too much luck finding a team, even when I want to run solo.

maybe cause I've been on my new tank mostly since i16 launch

Same, except people seem to want an MM on their team.

I've found a team within ten minutes of logging into a character every time I've played since Issue 16 hit. Could be luck I suppose.

Since I16 hit I've found it much easier to get a team. I'm even getting nice, polite tells before invites are sent.

I usually try to form my own teams but I have two strategies that work well for me. Firstly, when forming my own team I search for the level range and/or AT that I'm looking for then I type something like "/t $target, Level 24ish team lfm wanna join us?" That way I can just keep highlighting each person from the list and re-use the same tell. You could also personalize it by adding Hey $name to the beginning. When I don't feel like building a team then do I the opposite I perform the same search but instead of looking for blue names I look for gray and just send them a tell i.e. "Hi, I'm a level 24 corr. mind if I join you guys?"

With the advent of I16, I wouldn't be too worried about level range. You don't need 4 mentors for a team of 8. Doesn't mean you should invite a bunch of level 1s to have 7 level 1s on a team of 40 doing level 40 missions. However a level 40 can join the level 1s doing level 1 content.

Still try to stay around the same level range, however. That's still optimal.

I appreciate all the feedback - keep it coming! I was able to get a group going last night, in large part thanks to the LFG Alpha channel. I kept it rolling for several hours, but I had to go to RWZ because the first 6 responses I got were from bluesiders.

Throughout the night I was able to play with some great redsiders as well, they stuck around longer. I picked up 4 redsiders throughout the night and 2 of them were with the group for several hours. The very first bluesider who joined was around for quite a while, and there was a bubbler that stuck around for several missions, but most of the rest of the group consisted of bluesiders that ran a mission or two and logged.

That really reinforced my perception that most of the players are blueside, but it leads me to think that the people who're still playing redside right now are more hardcore.

Our team had a great time tearing through +3/8x targets and everyone reported great xp, but we also ripped through one and a half contacts worth of my missions in a day. I'm concerned that I'm going to run out of RWZ missions in the next day or two, and since I can't get papers in that zone I'm not sure what to do next. Cimerora? Sure, but it's one of the only remaining restricted zones. That's particularly true for redsiders who can't start the quest until 30.

There's always the option of starting an ITF or LGTF, but those take a little more planning and without the ability to see the powersets and bonuses of heroes it's difficult to tell if I've got a good team put together or not. In my experience I need a core group of 3-4 players who really know what they're doing to get through a TF without a lot of headache. I'd need to run them 3-4 times each before I'd be willing to lead one.

Also, regarding the flack I'm getting for not going anywhere without a corrupter - I'll gladly switch to one of my 4 40+ corrupters before I'll lead or join a team without one. It's my experience that it's much easier to end up with a successful PUG if you have one than if you don't. A good corrupter can provide the safety net you need to have fun with 6 decent players and 2 guys with a pulse and an internet connection - which is your average 8 man PUG. A really great player can do the same with most ATs, but it's a lot easier to find a good corrupter than a really great player, especailly if you're recruiting for a PUG.

You CAN get repeatable missions in RWZ. Borea offers repeatable timed missions. It's not quite the same as a paper, but they're still repeatable

Remember! With SSK, anyone can gain XP. AUsually if someone asks on my 30+ to join a 10-20 team i'll be like 'Heck yeah! Hook me up!' and noticed plenty do too. Just send a tell saying 'Doing x level missions. You will gain XP and get all your powers usable from level x+5'.

With love,

Hmm. I thought all of her repeatables were 'Kill X of Group Y'?
