Anyone trying Aion?
I am. I had my doubts at first but the free beta key they gave as part of the 'Sorry we liked about Tabula Rasa' package eventually won me over. I've rolled up Elyos on Zikel and Asmodean on Yustiel (picked as the unofficial RP server).
SG Mate: Cien, what the hell is this Rookery thing?
RadDidIt: (interjecting) Dude. It's the Rookery.
SG Mate: Yeah, but what IS it?
RadDidIt: Silliness Incarnate.
There are apparently a bunch of CoH players gathering on Lumiel, which also happens to be the unofficial US RP Server(not sure where you got Yustiel from). Per this thread, it looks like most of us are rolling Elyos on Lumiel and Asmo on Israphel.
I tried the beta for about 20 mins before I noticed that it felt more like a WoW clone.Since I hate the WoW gameplay style I passed on it without a second thought.
Although it looks fantastic mine you I juswt hate the WoW fetch quests (off topic I know but this is also a reason I hated CO as well.)
Maybe i'll give it another shot later on but for now i'm passing on it and would rather have those nice looking graphics be part of CoX instead
No, you accurately hit the nail on the head. The game play and questing system is very WoW like. Which is pretty unusual since it is a Korean game. There are differences of course, and it is an absolutely beautiful game. But if you hate WoW, you're not going to find much to like here.

Was going to try out the betas, but GG reared it ugly head, so no i will not be playing Aion

Game Guard has been removed from the game, at least from the start.

Yea, that was the only reason I didn't play in the beta...that damn root-hack of a 'safety' program that was bundled. You won't believe all the stuff my firewall/protection software caught it trying to do.
Now that they removed it, I'll have to live up to my self promise of boycotting it - Remove it and I'll check your game out. Well... I need to check the game out now.

Launch day! And I work unfortunately... Today is going to drag on and on.
Fair warning though. They'd like to use Game Guard, but it caused a lot of people problems with just connecting and playing the game. That's why they pulled it for launch, not because people complained about it. Though complain they do. So there's no saying that it would be added back in later.

Man, don't say that.... *frowns*
I can believe it tho.
Why the HELL do they need to run a guard program anyways? I don't know of any modern western MMO that needs it. Only the ones from Korea... And if they need it, it sounds like they should spend the time to ...I don't know, code more security into their games.
I say this, but I've been out of the 'cutting edge' mmo's for awhile... For all I know they might now.

Umm.. NC Soft is a Korean company. Aion is a Korean game. Game Guard is considered acceptable security by Korean MMO manufacturers, that's why it's so common in use by Korean games. I don't get why people would expect anything else. Sure it's pretty much unpopular in the States and Europe, but it has been entirely Korean until now.
Maybe it will be brought back, maybe it won't. The longer it goes without it though, the less likely it will be to be added back in. So all people can really do is keep expressing their concerns and distaste over it. The surest way to make sure Game Guard doesn't come back is to let the people at NC Soft know they'll lose a lot of paying subscribers if it does return.

I thought about getting it in December as a birthday present (too busy right now with other side projects as well as tons of unfinished and some unopened games).
But for now, I'm still unsure. Not really ready to start a new MMO.

So, now that things settled a bit this morning, I've been able to set up characters in their proper places. So far, I has this:
Lumiel, Asmodae faction: Ashya-Sorceress, Zanlith-Gladiator, Zalii-Assassin, Jessa-Chanter
Zikel, Elyos faction: Dorica-Ranger
I'll be making more Elyos later on.

Running on Lumiel myself. Trying to bring the Virtue attitude to the server.

We're Lumiel... its kinda like putting a death metal tape in a Teddy Ruxpin!
Join the ranks of The Dawn Patrol!
Seems all the Virtuites are playing Elyos on Lumiel though. Well, I'll try to not blame you to much for picking the wrong side as I cut you down.

Asmodae dance better but smell funny so it's a toss up.
If the opening day picture of 50 folks on one plain all hunting for the same mobs is any indication, I will pass for a bit. Maybe next month. Reminds me of the easter even in WoW.

Yeah, it can get pretty hairy at times. Opening days can be pretty harsh when you only have one starting zone. That's part of the reason they so heavily throttled the servers initially, so the starting areas wouldn't be even more swamped than they were. I expect today to be much the same, but I've got a character ascended and into the next zone, so I'm not that worried.

I'm with Crimson Revenge on Lumiel. We're Asmodian and we likes it that way. Now just lie down and make it easier on yourself you fluffy, rainbows and flowers sissy-boy Elyos.

And if so what server/faction will you be playing?
A few SG mates and I will be playing Elyos on the Siel server as soon as the headstart begins. Just wondering if we'll run into some familiar faces.
