What are they building in Port Oakes around the Arena?

It just looks like some kind of walkway. I've noticed that it has been expanding. It's kind of down the cliff on the side of the Arena which faces the ocean.

One of the construction workers of course, said he didn't know why they were building it, and that no one told him anything. XD

Is it just a walkway that goes from the Mercy Isle Ferry to the Port Oakes?

If so... why does it look like they are building it out towards the ocean..........

(New game content coming! Underwater missions soon, where you discover the Coralax Civilization! J/K, but it would be cool.....)

It has been theorized that the road here (and the scaffolding under construction on the southern side of Steel Canyon) will lead to a launching pad which will take us to a moonbase / space station.

IIRC, if you look at the map of the Rogue Isles that came in the Good vs. Evil or Architect Edition, there is a rocket icon on the coast of Port Oakes.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

Originally that construction and the construction against the War Wall in Steel Canyon were intended to tease the Launch Areas for a Space/Moon zone. The Lost in the revamped Faultline spoke new chatters about the moon as well as probably a few other hints here and there.

Since then those plans have been back-burnered or abandoned, in favor of other things.

Here's hoping that construction, the Coming Storm of Ouroboros, and the secrets of the Shivans all get wrapped sometime, since they're all theoretically linked.

That map also has a spaceport just north of Steel Canyon.

Maybe it'll be like the game The Dig, where there's a giant asteroid headed towards earth that has a mysterious alien portal... etc etc etc

One of my friends who did some poking around in the PIGGS files noted some textures of space and the moon and such in the latest release. A prelude to something bigger perhaps? (honestly it would be AWESOME!)

Just to address this bit I missed. It hasn't expanded.

You mean apart from the fact that they have thousands of yards of clearance around real rockets, not dozens, and launching a rocket into orbit this far north of the equator would be much harder, right?

[yeah, I'm totally behind the idea of Rikti science rockets as opposed to chemical rockets, and I know they would be able to secure an area with Force Fields. I was just fooling.]

It's a Robot Chicken episode:

Summary: America sends Harrison Ford and Aerosmith into space to take out an asteroid in "Meteorgeddon."

After everything the children of Paragon City have been through, they sure could use Gamera as their friend

If you can make forcefields of sufficient strength you could even launch on the Bang Bang method...

Stick a nuke under rocket detonate. Rocket goes up, before it can fall stick another nuke under and detonate...

Hell the amount of times the reactor blew in the old days they could have launched loads of rockets from TV...

What they're constructing is actually a major suspension bridge that will connect to a sparsely populated island. The whole thing will cost about $280 billion dollars.
