I would have to beg to differ on this one. Saying you don't want to be judged by the company you keep is just ludicrous. We are judged in real life that way, why should it be any different in a video game?
If you surround yourselves with prostitutes or druggies in real life everyone is going to assume that is what you are. That doesn't make it right, but it is what it is. If you work for some dude that is selling child pornography, and you know he is doing it, just because you don't buy it or sell it doesn't mean you don't stand the chance of going to jail as well. Of course extreme examples, but you get the point. |

This I can agree with this is exactly how I see things real life and in video games.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm trying real hard to keep those that earn their scorn separate from those who haven't. Even though SF had plenty of less than stellar members, there were many more good ones that just got caught up in the madness, and most of them wised up and got out. I'd like to think that the same can be said for AOW. So far it looks to me like it's just one nut that needs to be tightened in an otherwise ok group.

I wish you well Dave Mebs and Emprad.

My guess would be that you don't hang out with prostitutes, drug addicts or child porn ring leaders?

Either way you are blessed if people do not judge you atleast occassionally by the company that you keep. Most of society is not that lucky.
**btw seems you possibly took my term "ludicrous" as a personal slight, was not intended and sorry if I offended.

Dang I wish I was free to join other SG's because that is an awesome name and would go so well with one of my "Hawt" named characters. :-)
GL with your group guys! Even if you never have more than 2 members you are already FOW!
Felicia is probably super hot IRL because girls this crazy and delusional usually are.
Ditto. I really enjoy CriticalKat's posts. So well thought out, concise, and entertaining. I think she has a secret literary career that we don't know about.

Let me tell you why UHB, Pingus, HOJ, RDLV, BOSS, EG, etc are so well known and respected on this server. Its not because they have a lot of members. It is not because of prestige ranking. It is because their members and leaders are very active in the community. They are all respected as being decent gamers and helping others. They all have ZERO drama for the most part.

Wait . . . . what?
Oh and i love seeing Pingus in these lists . . . . considering we have maybe 10 active players at any given time.

I haven't been around nearly enough recently to comment at length on just about anything - new jobs are wonderful, but they tend to take a toll on free time... That said, one thing that I think appears to be relevant here is something that a fairly well known guy named Plato said about two thousand years ago, and that is, to paraphrase, that anyone who is actually qualified to do the job of leading is almost certain to have to be pushed into doing it, either by neccessity or by force. Why? Because anyone that has the qualities really needed for it is probably smart enough to realize that doing it right is more misery for themselves than it is fun. In short, they aren't likely to want the job because they actually understand the job, and the job sucks.
This is how you can generally tell when you can trust someone to lead you as true as they can: They aren't the first person to stand up and take the job, and when they do take the job, it's frequently more "I'll do my best to get you through this, or die trying" than it is "WE'RE AWESOME! NO ONE CAN STOP US! KOOL AID AND SNACKS TO THE LEFT!" Sure, everyone loves a pat on the back after a job well done, but if you take the job seriously, the satisfaction gotten from it isn't from that pat, it's from seeing everyone ELSE happy to get it done.
And that's I think why people hold up folks like Amygdala, Kat, and Ping as exemplary leaders. They don't demand that others follow them, merely step forward and offer to go first into whatever challenge is there - if you want to come with them, they will do all they can to help you. If you don't, peace to you, and via con Dios. Leadership doesn't flow from how much cash you drop, or how much you can earn, or even how much effort you can get others to output. It comes not only from the trust you instill in the people around you, but the humility to understand that that trust not only must be earned, but returned with interest, and that's a tall order.
And now, back to work...
