5 years and still more downtime

Gotta say i'm severely dissapointed with the huge amounts of downtime that this game has been dropping lately.

I've played almost every MMO out there on the market and frankly only the first years tweeking their bugs get more downtime.

I like this game because of several reasons thats why I dont just "Leave to play another game" but in all reality this is one of the more simplistic MMO's out there.
Whats the reason for this downtime?! I do realize that M-W-F they do backups, but on many of the games its 60-90 min in lengths, CoX is typically over 120 min.
Why are we going down on Tuesday?! Its not like this stuff couldnt be put in during Mondays downtime, or heaven forbid, its not ready for Monday, then PUSH IT BACK A DAY! and give it to us on Wednesday.

Silly little things like this are why we are losing player base and to continue with this silliness will kill the game.
PS if you havent noticed there are several games on the horizon that look top notch and are designed to clearly pull people away from the current MMO's.
So please, PLEASE, get your act together and start acting like a company that gives a hoot about its player base!

...dude, talk about DOOOOM.

Most people don't even notice the downtime.

I don't really see a question in your post. Also, this forum is where players help other players, the Dev's don't frequent this area. This downtime isn't as bad as it used to be either, I remember back in the early years it was every day 2 hours or more. So they are bumping it up a little now? So be it. MA was a pretty big change so yeah its going to take a while to sort it out.

You're right! We should be just like other MMOs! We should be like WoW, and have downtimes that last upwards of 6-8 hours...sometimes even longer!

Really, though...have you actually been in game at this time? Things are almost dead, because most people are either at work or in school. They determined that this time is when the servers are the slowest, so that's when they do the updates.

Would you rather they let things remain unupdated and broken so you don't have to find something else to do for an hour or two?

For 5 years now they have booked 9AM-11AM EST Monday - Friday for maintenance.

Then they changed the policy to 9AM-11AM EST Monday and Friday with the optional possibility of maintenance happening Tuesday - Thursday.

Nothing has changed.

They added 1 extra hour this week and told us ahead of time.

That is all.

OH NO I CANNOT PLAY FOR TWO HOURS WHATEVER SHALL I DO WITH MY LIFE NOW.

Here's a little known secret: The devs don't take the servers down to mess with the players. They do that to fix issues. The servers are down PRECISELY because they care about the gaming experience.

You can't have your cake and eat it, too. If that bothers you, well, good luck in finding an MMO that doesn't bother you.

Hey Geek, don't worry about the downtime that much. In the long run would you perfer 2hrs of downtime in the morning vs. 12 hours of grey server status during primetime? If you think that example isn't possible or an extreme, i will use last DXP weekend on freedom as an example. I;m sure that there are many bugs that have both effected you or some you aren't even aware off that might be fixed with the latest patch. (personally i'm glad to have gotten rid of the wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwchat bug myself!)

But if you are a serious gamer then use it as an opportunity to take care of stuff offline like:

-throughly plan out that uber level 50 build in mids. But hey, you saw there are IOs that you want but don't want to buy? Curious as to what pools and rolls they are in? Well hey, why not...

-...research online the poll tables so you can plan out how many merits or what range you want to roll in?

-building too boring? Maybe visit your server board and check out the community. We have a physicsgeek on my server so i won't assume its the same person but we'd be glad to have you participate in some teaming this week. There are actually planned taskforces coming up and pvp events as well, not to mention some badge farming. Come join us!

- Or hey, how about some maintenance of your own? That computer might be due a decent can of airspray by now, clean out the gunk in those keyboard keys, restock the mini-fridge, change the set-up of the surround sound speakers to get the optimum rubble when you click that snipe power, etc.

To summarize, just take the downtime as an opportunity rather than a hinderance. Its planned so you know when it will happen so that almost makes it golden! Thats a lot better than being shut down with no notice at all.

Frankly, I'd think you (the OP) would be used to the downtimes after 4 years. It's rare for them to just take the servers down without notice. You should also know by now that the closer it is to new issues the more downtime gets extended a bit (presumably to preload live servers as they go to ready the switch).

I've been here for 5 years and don't sweat it. Of course I curse everytime they take the servers down when I'm trying to play, but I know it's coming.

That is not a true statement.

Nothing new to add other than the downtime in CoH is minimal compared to most MMOs.

I know it can be frustrating to have the day off, get up early, pop on the computer only to find the server is undergoing maintenance. We're lucky to do an hour of morning maintenance. Other games can go down for whole days sometimes with no warning.

Clearly, you haven't played WoW in a good long while.

They had some pretty amazing downtime after Wrath launched, and after each of the Wrath content patches.

WoW's *normal* maintenance downtime is longer than CoX's, let alone when they need longer for emergencies.

Knowing it was going to be down this morning, I went and did laundry instead of this weekend. Tomorrow, I might go out and enjoy a leisurely breakfast.
