Farming Tanks
A well built IO'd Fire/Fire/Pyre Tanker is the best farmer that I know of (especially since they can easily farm full Portal Missions as well as MA farms).
Shield/Fire/Pyre and Shield/SS/Pyre are the other great farm builds but both of these tend to be a bit squishy is some of the heavier farms.

Both of these are the best set-ups i've come across.
Fire/fire/pyre is great, am trying fire/fire/earth myself, quicksand is nice for helping keep mobs in burn.
Dark Armor is like that kid you knew in school that didn't know when to shut up, and no matter how bad he got beaten down, he got right back up again and kept on talking.

WP/SS (and assuming Pyre) is good ... not as fast as the others I've mentioned but good all around (and not as squishy as Shield/Fire or Shield/SS).
I farm with my Fire/Ice/Pyre Tank pretty well and I have no problems keeping mobs in my burn patch.
Although if I were going to spend the effort on a farm toon I'd probably go with a Scrapper or Fire/Kin Controller over a Tanker.
They can do the samething in any farm and do it about 10 times as fast given equivelant farm builds.
i farm ok with a fire fire tank and a shield fire tank. both do ok. and i dont bother anyone cos i can do it all myself.

Are prolly your best bets.
/DM would be a terrible farmer (so would /Stone & /EM), if by "farmer" you mean someone who can defeat endless hoards of easy to kill mobs w/AoEs for XP and/or profit. I don't care how good you are at lining up SM, you're not going to catch as many as FSC (+Combustion) or FS or FA (+Frost), and AoEs are where it's at for farming.

Fire/SS/Pyre makes a good build for Solo and Team farming. With some IOing it also makes a decent 8 man mission tank, giving you the option to pick one or the other.
Well, my Fire/Fire/Earth Tank is a decent farmer but I wouldn't say that any Tanker would be the best for farming.
My Claws/WP scrapper actually manages to kill things nearly twice as fast and can still survive pretty much everything I've thrown at him so far. Fire/Kin Controllers (when built right) are also farming machines.
But if you really want a tank for farming then I would recommend either Fire/Fire/Earth (Quicksand+Burn is very nice) or Fire/SS (Rage for permanent damage and ToHit Boost + Footstomp for extra damage and mitigation against maps full of mobs).

maybe regular farms they can do as good but not in the a.e....in 90% of the farms in a.e. they would die within seconds.

My 200mil influence Spines/Fire Scrapper would so run circles around your billion influence Fire Tanker in an AE farm.

That's also not true. I normally hate AE farming, but on a dare, I followed in a Fire/Ice tank into one of his AE farms w/my Ill/Kin, who's not even close to a farm build, but has high def (not quite capped once SI in suppressed to 1/2). Since PA quickly hits the aggro cap in a room w/like 200 mobs packed in, that's completely out of the equation, and Phanty pretty much died instantly, but I survived a really long time while pumping out FS'ed Fireballs as soon as they recharged, and only really died cuz I got careless during an unlucky string of hits.
Now, obviously, the tank doesn't have to worry about such an unlucky string, which you're going to run into sooner or later, but a properly built Fire/Kin could prolly farm w/the best tanks w/just a few trips back from the hosp, which is really very close anyway. Unless you're being silly and farming EBs or something equally as ridiculous.
I don't think a mediocre Fire/Kin would survive in some of the AE farm maps out there. I don't mean all EBs or even all bosses, but where the mobs were so tightly packed that you'd easily surpass any AoE caps (for aggro, control or damage) and things will hit you if your defenses weren't very high (and even then). But a properly build farmer... yeah, it'll easily outstrip a tank, even w/some deaths.

Hello there, I was going to start a new thread for this, but felt it was more appropriate to put it in here.
Its basically another "rate my build" post. I kinda get the feeling these kinds of posts can get annoying - but I really, really want input on this build. So I appologize in advance.^^
The following are two builds for a Fiery Aura / Super Strength Tanker I am leveling up. The first is his build at level 32 and the second level 50. My primary goal is solo and group farming.
In each build, I attempted to max out defense for smash & lethal damage with IO sets.
For the level 50 build I was able to reach 44.5%. I understand that 45% is a target number refered to as the "soft cap." Will missing it by 0.5% greatly diminish my defense?
Also, I read that Invulability tankers can reach the soft cap for S/L damage by lvl 32. Is this possible with a Fiery Aura tanker?
In addition, this is my first "farming" toon. I understand that its all about AoE damage. Do I have that covered with Blazing Aura, Burn, Foot Stomp, and Fire Ball boosted by Rage and Fiery Embrace?

i have my farm mish that i will let you into and we'll see how you like it...no worries though its only lt's and miniions...nothing else.
but ill can tell you you wont survive it
soon as test opens up we can head on over and try it.
then when you return from your hospital trip maybe your fire/kin can show me how much better you are at farming the storm palace

in the ae fire/kins cant do half of what fire tanks can do.... maybe regular farms they can do as good but not in the a.e....in 90% of the farms in a.e. they would die within seconds. |
And in those missions, a Fire/Kin Controller kicks the crap out of just about any other single build, sad as I am to say it. Soft-capped S/L DEF and a fast-recharging uber heal handles survivability, and Fulcrum + Hotfeet + Cages + Fissure/Frost Breath/Ice Storm handle damage.
Sure, that build is very much purpose-built; any time it strays into predominantly exotic-damage (or mez-heavy) content, it will show its glass jaw, and the slotting used in those builds is generally sub-optimal for any low-target encounter -- but if all you want to do is grind for influence as fast as possible, then the only way to beat such a purpose-built Fire/Kin is to play hardcore market games.
Personally, it's not my style.

i have a purpled out fire/kin as well...laying on top of 26 lvl 50's
i farmed with a fire/fire ,a fire/ice, a fire.kin and a ss/wp brute and a fire/fire and a elec/wp brute redside
if anyone here is a bigger farm nurd then me then please speak up...but i wouldnt LIE to you.when i say fire/kins are great..but they dont have the open range a fire tank will have..they just cant handle it
ive farmed wolves,freaks,ninjas,bm map,family and the ae and tv and mole machines since issue 2..
if you dont believe me then go with your slow xp and have a good safe time..
as test opens up...ill be posting here on the tank forums for the put up or shut up to the fanbois...bring whatever you want to test and let the games begin.
i dont care if its ice or invul or wp or kin trollers...youll find im not all talk...imn betting alot of you are though

Hey now, he also said his Spines/Fire would run circles round you. Don't back down from that.
And depending on the build of your AE farm, they might as well be EBs.
And why are we talking about AE farms so much? I mean, tickets are nice, but there's no Purples from tickets.

For AE farming I use my spines/vuln and fire/shield. I do not have my shield/fire spec'd out yet.

Is a tank able to farm like some of the other ATs?
If so, what would be the best combo to have for a farming tank? I am assuming a damaging Aura would be very useful and probably a must have.
