Pretty much all archetypes are popular with the blasters and scrappers edging out the others.
For soloing a scrapper would be ideal, good balance of offense and defense, on a team anything really does go.
Key things to know
1) www.paragonwiki.com is the ultimate resource for game knowledge. For story arcs though treat it as chock full of 'spoiler' tags.
2) On this server, lose those pants.

Good. That is the only requirement to join the server.
Also, join these global channels for Task Forces, Monsters, and Raids
Triumph Watch 2.0 (more strict, straying from in-game things like TFs, monsters, raids, may get you Modded for a bit. Helpful people in there)
Triumph Watch 2.1 (not strict. warning, a lot of crazy chatter, and some, unorthodox, convos, helpful people in there)

Few things you should know:
Cath is a griefer, so don't talk to him, he makes ppl cry by cutting up onions
Sun Splitter and Imeco are griefers, they just grief you. . .. .
Join TW 2.0 and 2.1, 2.0 IS FOR SRS GAMER PPL WHO MUS B SUPA SRS, 2.1 is a typical gaming channel

Welcome to the server! I just started out on COH too a few months ago and have had a great time on Triumph. If you see me around, shoot me a msg and let me know if you need help or just wanna run around. There are fewer people than other servers, but everyone's committed (asylum-wise) and really friendly.

When it come to what type of toon to play I feel obligated to suggest blasters for hero side, but only if you like massive damage and dyeing a lot. It is possible to solo on a blaster but unlike the scrapper it takes practice and missions will tend to go slower, as you'll have to look before you leap. Something that certain scrappers I know have problems with <_<. Don't worry Sun and FG I won't name names.
Villain side Id go with corrupter because they essentially have the same damage of the blaster but get amazing support abilities that increase their survivability and damage output, depending on the secondary you choose.
Help chat is helpful type /hc to use it. Make as many friends as you can because while global channels are nice once you start making friends you can draw from friends lists too with out all of the Triumph Watch drama.
PS whatever you do don't roll and Ice/Ice tank

I am looking to pick a server to play in, and I think it is going to be this one. I have never played this game before and I am downloading updates and such right now. I can not wait to play.. My question is. What kind of char is popular in this game, and is there anything I should know before I get started.
