I use Firefox but have Internet Explorer 6 also for times when FF won't display something correctly or to test and make sure the site I maintained works for both... Vivaces shows correctly in IE6 her text and images floating directly over the forums teal/grey background.
If you don't mind my asking Viv how did you do that? P.S. Yes these emoticons stink on ice as well as other things about the new forums... where the heck is the "view all" pages button?!?!? I prefer to have one page and scroll down, having to click next for each page is lame. |
Let me find some more.
Those are all meant for a light background (especially the Junglesnow one), but that's what I do.

You have to save your Image file as a PNG, and of course select your background areas, and delete them out of the white, so that you see the checkered transparent background... this is for Photoshop if you use it.

I do use it but silly me I acutally use it to edit photos.
I have acutally been an artist for about 20 years (mostly fantasy, dragons and wizards and the like) but all of it is pencil, pen, paint, etc nothing digital. I'm more than a little jealous of all the people I see on here and DA that can create this stuff on their PC's with the same app I edit photgraphs with. Boggles my mind. ;P
P.S. (plugs LJ's art sale) Is your "less than half price" sale up and running yet? You mentioned somewhere possibly by Monday but I still don't see any mention of it on your blog or DA site? (/end plug)
Ahh...I start with a transparent background in Photoshop, and then type and manipulate the text/silhouette/whatever, from there. Test by adding a new layer, dump a dark color into it, shrug and be happy it works, and then delete the dark layer, save as PNG with 300 pixels per inch, and then upload to my photobucket.

Is that what people are using? photoshop to create these?
If so, what size are people using? Just wondering, as I am looking to make one of my own.

Well, I've got the one currently in my sig. Then there's this one that LJ made me:
And finally, I'm working on a dynamic one:
I've got the code for the image done. Now I just need to figure out a way to make it link to a specific page, based on the image it creates. Sadly, I don't think it's possible...
The only idea I've had so far is to have it update the MY_SQL database with the link, so that the link matches, but I can't think of a way to make that link become a link. *sigh* It was such a good idea, too...

I'm doing 100x400 or 100x500.
I'm too cool for a sig.
nah, just been too lazy.
I'm using 333x100 size.
Also, if you want to show BBCodes, use the [noparse] tag:

Just photoshop and boredom here, 600x100 I'll have to find a better font for character names later
I.. I suppose you could be talking about someone else's sig banner, but if you mean mine, thank you! This totally made my day!

I really like yours as well Jessimae
Looks a bit odd though now that you have centered it... I think it looked better when it was in the left corner.

When they get the upload feature actually working it states the limit of 600X100 of file size which ever is smaller.
until that is fixed/working and people are using the [img] tags in there signature i think we should limit it to that size. I myself use something smaller and is an animated gif. it's kinda rough right now but will eventually cycle through the roster and link to my CIT roster page. I wish I could code a dynamic banner showing the actual character I am logged in to. and then the changing one when I'm not logged in.
First run trial on my Lightslinger sig banner, what do y'all think? I'm thinking I might need to size it down a bit.
How about now?
I just took a look at the message in IE6 as well and your are correct they are showing up with proper transparency. If I were to guess what's going on it's that there's a javascript trick that can be used to make PNG transparency show up correctly in IE6. I remember using it ages ago. That's why when you view it in IE6 you see the nasty non-transparent background and then when the page has fully loading it disappears, that's when the javascript kicks in and makes it transparent.
|
My pages load so fast on my gaming rig I never saw it but I fired up 3 instances of CoH to try and make it lag a little bit and for a brief instant I did see the white box background in IE6. It seems some programmers would agree with you that there are still many people using IE6 and older browsers and are using these java tricks to compensate for them.
No what he meant was how you got the PNG transparency to work in IE6 because IE6 and before doesn't support PNG tranparency. If you goto my homepage there's a PNG with transparency on the front page. I /don't/ use the javascript trick on that page so if you view it in IE6 the image of my Xbox Live avatar has an ugly grey background behind it.

I'm more of a hardware geek(I build custom computers for a living)/pen and paper artist than fancy software tricks/digital artist, though I do have some basic Photoshop skillz
P.S. Cool sig Lightslinger I love the look of flight... I sometimes just flip on CoH and fly around the city for a while and log off
Hey VexXxa, I went ahead and modified my original sig just for you.
