Random options for new animations

So it appears that you can choose a new animation for SS and MA.

For those powersets where there are multiple animations that can be selected, why not add a random option where sometimes you'll hit the footstomp and other times you'll hit the ground punch.

One knockout blow will be the windup and the next time may be the double fisted blow.

I think it would be a nice addition.

Probably because people would rather not have something entirely unexpected happen every time they click?

I'd rather just choose, since we know ahead of time what they look like at all.

Yeah what I"m suggesting is to give people the option. So if you just want 1 of the 2, fine. But if you want it to randomize it, that's cool too.

I think there'll be camps for either side.

Random as an option would ROCK for both animations and colors in my book.

Colors not so much, in my opinion. It could get obnoxious really fast...

But I am totally in favor of the randomized animations. It'd be more realistic to throw differant moves "on the fly", even if it is producing the same effect.

The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)

I know I'm not supposed to "bump" so I'll make this relevant. Now with DP the animations are cool but they're repetitive of course like all the other animations for attack sets.

How cool would it be if we were to get multiple animations (same length for powers) and it just randomly decides what animation to use for a particular attack.

I think this would make DP and other sets like SS and MA better and help further immerse the player into the game.

I don't think the tech to do this would be tough and I still think it'd be a nice feature.

for both existing animations and DP, if it wouldn't be oo much work for the devs. it would make for less disciplined heroes who make stuff up as they go along (spiderman style)

I rollled a DP Corruptor just to 'have a looksie'. I could swear there were different animations for the single shot tier one. One was like a sort of sideways stance shot. Another was almost like you were leaning back (dodging?) while shooting. Seemed to happen when foes were in your face.

I'll look again tonite, but sure seemed to be what was happening...and it really got me wishing my SS brute could random thru the animations available for a power. I prefer the New SS Animations, but I sure wouldn't mind that Two-Handed over the the head 'Haymaker' smacking in here and there.

So... /Signed. Give us the choice of a specific animation, along with a Random Option (Dark Random, Bright Random

This is as suicidal as saying; "It can't really be that bad." when talking about the internet.

We have no idea how hard the tech is.
On the plus side, we do see it used in DP as it is; [Pistols] has 4 different animations that it cycles through, and looks gorgeous for it.

Oh OK I didn't realize the 4 different animations for Pistols. I can't remember but I don't think I took it. I took dual wield and empty clips and for those there's only 1 animation.

Regarding my comment about the tech, they gave us the option to choose different animations. The /em alakazamreact cycles through different things (each player has a chance of seeing something different).

So I'm more certain than not that the tech wouldn't be too hard. It would just require additional animations with the same exact animation length.

With that being said, I do have a feeling that there's still a lot of stringy code in this game so for all we know making this change could break bases.

Also when I first made this suggestion I was thinking how cool it would be to see both KO blow animations during battle.

Thanks for the feedback.

Fitz

Alternating for sets that have already got alt animations I see as maybe being possible.
Really, Alakazam react is still the same animation. It just randomises the end result. The actual animation part of it didnt change, only requiring (afaik) a minor direction change for the coding (instead of, for example, 'Replace with object:Pumpkin' it would be 'Replace with object:Parameter:Objects list', which is a bit like what Propel uses.)

So, they could choose something a bit like propel does, with random objects, in this case the animations. Maybe.
Dual Pistols does not, as yet, have any alternate animations. So that would require work, because they'd need to be made first.

DP's Pistols and the classic power of "Brawl" show it can be done: an attack that cycles through animations. It's NOT random, but every time you use it it flips. I'd like this in Martial Arts and Super Strength. Additional options called "Bright Switch" and "Dark Switch" where you set the color for it to always be, and then it flips back and forth between the two animations.

OK cool, I learned something new today.

Lets hope they see this and think it's worh putting into the game "soon"-ish.

Even if it flipped and wasn't random I wouldn't mind.

For the record, Brawl goes Right, Left, Kick, Right, Left, Kick, etc, skipping animations as your current mode denies. (If you have a shield, for example, you just go right, kick, right, kick.)

Pistols goes Right 1, Left 1, Right 2, Left 2, and then cycles back, so you alternate hands with each Pistols shot, with two animations per hand.

Am I crazy*, or is there a similar set-up already at work in Super Strength? I seem to remember at least one or two of the powers (Jab and something else, maybe) having separate "right" and "left" animations.

I made a SS brute a while back with one massive robotic arm and one normal one, and I remember wishing at the time that I could make him use the mechanical one more (or take the meat arm out of the rotation altogether). Not that I'd ask for that level of control or anything, it was just sort of an idle musing.

Either way, I like this idea.

*It's entirely possible.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

I know for Certain 'Punch' did this. Alternated left and right, basically mirrors of each other, but it did it...

Want NAOH!!!

When I first learned that I could change the animation for ground punch I was very disheartened at the lack of a "random" option.

With more alternate animations coming "soon" I'd like to bring this up again.

I'd also like to see more animations in general, but I can understand why the blast sets were chosen, first. =-3
