Why change the forums?

I have to say that I really dislike this new forum. I really liked being able to select View All and see the entire thread. Not sure you can do that here.

Because as forum software goes, UBBThreads (what we used to be on) sucks. vBulletin, the software we've changed to, is more customizable for both users and admins, easier to navigate (generally speaking), and is all-around better software. Right now, there are undoubtedly more kinks to be worked out of this new forum before it's up and running at 100%.

I know somebody who used it on a much smaller scale and even they ran into problems with it from a resource standpoint. It's the reason we were getting various little hiccups here as well. It was at one point the gold standard for forum software, but it has been passed by for some time now.

Maybe you are right. In the old forum I could select View All and then scroll through an entire thread no matter how long. Will I be able to do that here? Somehow I doubt it...

User CP > Settings & Options > Edit Options > Thread Display Options > Show 100 Posts Per Page

It's not the same as "View All", but it's certainly better than the default.

Any way to show the sub-forums on the main page?

Badging in a PvP zone?

If you are treasure hunting on a battlefield wearing an enemy uniform, there is a high probability that you will be attacked.

By default? Not currently. The admins can make it the default view, and probably will once they see the general clamoring for that option. In the meantime, you can bookmark the forums with this URL: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=547

Also, when inside the forums, clicking on the "English" link at the top of the forum will take you to the expanded subforums.

Found that in the main discussion thread. My reading comprehension must have died with the old boards. Thanks for the response. Much better with that bookmarked.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

All this effort to crossover and no token effort into a "classic skin?"

It's an entirely different system. Creating a new skin just to look like the old one would have been a *huge* undertaking...and quite frankly, a waste of time.

So far I'm not impressed with it.

Formatting the new forum to at least match the color scheme of the game like the old forums would have at least been a nod to the quality presentation and thought that went into the old forums layout and look. There are tons of forums out there with MANY various skins made from SCRATCH. In this case they already had a layout, various pieces of art and access to all in info they would need to make a simple copycat skin. So take your "*huge* undertaking" BS overstatement and stick it.

Somehow "more options" are only a waste of time when it's convenient for making confrontational statements and belittling other peoples opinions. A copycat skin would have helped ease this transition greatly by keeping it from being such a stark difference when folks logged in. It doesn't seem to me that they put ANY time into this current format, it looks generic as all get out. White text on a paint tool fade of a background, oooh, aaahhh.

I've created a number of vBulletin skins, and I don't believe it would be *that* hard at all to create a look similar to the old boards. Certainly not the icons and color scheme.

Might be nice too - while I am very happy the forums have been switched to vBulletin, I'm not completely sold on the gradients and backgrounds. They're well done, just a little distracting (though I'm sure I'll get used to them).

Suggestions:
Super Packs Done Right
Influence Sink: IO Level Mod/Recrafting
Random Merit Rolls: Scale cost by Toon Level

Looking through the options I saw you could select three skins: Default, Hero, or Villain.

You can't blame them for trying to stay hip.

A look similar to, no. And they've done that already.

But the poster above seemed to me to be saying "I want something that looks exactly like the old boards so I don't have to deal with change!" That would have been rather difficult...and unreasonable.

I may have read into it too much, though, and if I did, I apologize.

I like the new forums, except the whole not auto jumping to the newest post. that's something i've always liked in the old boads

I have to say I dislike this new forum so far. It's pretty ugly and it loads like a snail.

The fact they don't seem to have set up the redirects properly is just icing. Not to mention losing all the avatars.
