Weaksauce: Combined Market+Inventions Forums
I miss the ability to click on a thread title and jump to the first unread message in a thread. That alone may decrease my desire to use the forums by about 22%.
Also maybe I'm missing it, but is there no way to show all posts in a thread on one page anymore?
And for a while things were cold,
They were scared down in their holes
The forest that once was green
Was colored black by those killing machines
Under options you can choose to show anywhere from 10-100 posts per page. There is no option to show all.

It's in your User CP. You can't easily add to it like you could before, but it's still there and it still works. I'm curious to see if it will block quoted text now.

I've tested it out and it's more complicated than before with regards to the blocking of quoted text. Basically the old "you are ignoring this user" text is gone as a meme for new users as the board simply "rolls up" the posts of ignored users and adds two small options to the posts. One to "view post" and one to "remove user from ignore list." Basically makes it harder to see when there is a person posting that you are ignoring which will probably have you scratching your head from time to time when they suddenly pop up in quoted text since they are a lot more hidden with this style.
Hmmmm....
Yep, at first blush, I have to agree with the thread title.

new forums, new avatar!
let's see how many people won't recognize me. =P |
Hey, I got my old avatar working again. I'm not planning to change it. Too much change already! I'm finding it harder to scroll quickly down a thread and pick out the interesting bits. The quote blocks are different, and people can more easily use more variety in fonts and colors. Also, graphic sigs are teh ebil.
And yeah, the lack of alpha channel edge shading whatever thingy Protea said about the smilies is ugly.
Overall I don't mind the new forums, though. I'll get used to all the little changes. It took me a while to find that control panel thingy, for example. If it makes the mods happy, then I'm all for it. Being a mod sucks.
Which reminds me, does anyone know that webcomic about how forum moderators shouldn't complain about their jobs because it's like a person who has a job swallowing bees complaining about getting stung by bees? I wanted to show that to someone but I couldn't find it.

the ugly smilies are easily remedied- just use a different smily pack. someone made those for a forum with a white/gray background. although they kinda make me feel at home- the smilies on the old forums were so awful I never used them.
some graphic sigs are neat, the ones that aren't are consigned to the tender mercies of Adblock. Assuming Vbulletin is like UBB, admins should have options for limiting font choice & text size, which I hope they'll use soon. Jdouble is amusingly moronic at default settings, but I'm going to have to ignore him if the 30pt bolded type continues.

I would prefer that the two sections be seperate, but if I have to start a new thread, I'll use something like "Market: <Thread Title Here>" if I need to specify.
If the thread title I come up with in relation to the topic doesn't need the preface in order to specify, then I won't.
Agreeing with the dislike of the merged forums.
The Invention Forum was one I looked at every day, while the market forums I visited only once in a while.
With the combination and people preferring one over the other, I see the potential for some lost, overlooked threads.
Well, to be on the bright side, I'll look forward to seeing some new faces in the Invention threads and maybe I'll spend more time with the market threads.
Why is the market forum in 'Player Help'? It should be in the PVP section.
