Server Merge Soon!
I know I'm not going to miss all the bloody forum errors!
@FloatingFatMan
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

^^^^ Perfect timing.
I'll miss knowing whos who on the forums. I know a few people on the US side of things but over here we all seem to know eachother [good or bad we all know eachother], now going to be starting all over again getting our names out there
To bust or not to bust on the new forums . . . . that is the question!
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
The bloody thing even errorrd whilst editing the double post!
We'll still know who's who. Those yanks aren't going to bury us!

Ok, so the forum merge is happening very soon.
[/ QUOTE ]
Very soon?!?! Does that mean by Q1 of 2010?
Do think we'll see a dilution of the EU community spirit - unless there's a 'Weird Euros' section of the new boards. Server based boards just aren't the same.
I know from reading the US boards that it's going to be darn annoying for me seeing the sheer number of:[*] +1/IBTL posts that crop up on the US boards[*] posters coming in after a couple of hundred posts saying couldn't be bothered to read the thread and spouting a misunderstood view that was put straight by the 20th post[*] TLDR posts - why do so many posters seem to want to post the fact that they can't be bothered reading a post. Seems ignorant and proud of it.
The quantity of posts falling into the above categories can make popular threads grow at such speed it's nigh on impossible to follow them and sort the wheat from the chaff.
There's also a whole host of posters who know what they're talking about - but I often get the feeling that the signal:noise is poorer on many US threads.

Serious: To Save A Single World (#83744) * Marketing Opportunity (#83747)
somehow, every time there is an idea, there is always the EU vs US point of view.
the EU makes there point plain simple clear while the US overcomplicate things, really annoying.

I'm looking forward to seeing certain posters getting spanked

I'm looking forward to spanking and being spanked (ooh matron).
I am looking forward to more active AT forums.
And from the US sides "The Brits are coming" (we'll educate them on what EU actually means when we get there)
[ QUOTE ]
Oh. Cool, I guess. I keep hearing good things about the EU boards, so maybe some of that will spill over to these boards and replace the doom and gloom that always comes with any new Issue.

Here here!!! I agree totally with you!
Do think we need either an EU thread/section though, otherwise we'll just all go to the server sections?

Aside from the fact that I disapprove of the thread title they're carrying (I most certainly am not a Brit!) I have to say they will be somewhat disappointed maybe.. sort of..
How long do you think it will be before they start telling us not to be so gloomy and that all will be well? Completely missing the fact that quite a few things we dump on the boards are tongue in cheek as well?

Im not british! Im welsh
British = english to most people not in the UK so us welshies just call ourselves welsh instead Much easier then, dont get people going "wales? Where in england is that?"

IIRC It's a reference to the popular image of Paul Revere at the start of the American War of Independence (from Britain) who rode to towns/villages warning them that the British are coming!
So I guess it's a warning/rallying cry to prepare to fight us for US independence... time to don a redcoat and check my powder's dry, I guess

And I'm heading over in a coffin ship in the Steerage section, listening to fiddle music and doing that dance where the top half of my body seems inert but the bottom half appears to be dancing on hot coals.
Diddly-aye-do-de-do...
(sadly I do actually know how to Irish Dance, having had it bet into me by a Christian Brother when off at the Gaeltacht summer school in the late 80s. Maybe that was a precursor to my love of raves in the 90s. "Finally, I'm allowed to use my arms")
We're all players at the end of the day, the boards will be more active, day and night. More characters, more friends, more intelligent people to converse with, more opinionated people, more silly people to roll eyes at, more stupid people to complain about and ignore. More, more more... more of everything both sides have already.
Being optimistic or pessimistic, clever or stupid, serious or idiotic doesn't depend on which side of the Atlantic we're on and if anyone thinks it does, then they're showing their maturity right there.
We're all in the forums together now and I think that after any initial friction and we get settled, it'll be a good thing. I for one am looking forward to seeing Dev posts first hand, even if they are posted late evening.

When Charlotte Church (*spits*) sang for the US President he asked her which state Wales was in, so for some it seems that Brittish = English and Welsh = American, you will have to be careful

[/ QUOTE ]
That's the bit I'm not going to like.
I've managed to never ignore any poster on the EU boards. I do this on the basis that even if someone posts 200 posts of pure +1/ibtl/derailing drivel their 201st post may be truly insightful and worthwhile...
...and if it's drivel I can skip/skim it pretty quickly.
But I guess I'll have to start ignoring posters in the US if the sheer quantity of rubbish is to be handled.
Not trying to say that the US board population has a higher proportion of idiots, I'd guess that the proportion is probably the same on both boards. But keeping visible and skimming/skipping 20% of idiot posts from maybe a hundred active posters is a lot easier than doing the same for 20% of maybe a thousand active posters.
Which reminds me: the US also seems to have a lot of posters who insist on quoting entire posts just to put +1/this/signed or even adding nothing. Why? Skipping past 2 or 3 screens of quote to have no intelligent comment or additional info bugs the heck out of me...

Going serious so its italics! The hardest thing will be our humour v theirs. I got 10 million influence on there being a guide to our language within the first two days

I'm not going to miss it, because I'm going to use it when necessary in my posts. Doesn't matter what anyone says for me colour is colour.
The transition period will certainly be...
interesting.

I would love to start a thread trying to explain who the Milky Bar Kid is to them*
* ok I borrowed that joke from Dara O'Briain
More news faster!
Accurate News!
Possibly answers from devs/rednames
Modern interface, less bugs/problems, faster browsing/searching, better moderation control
Possibly serious moderation. Don't get me wrong, Avatea's great and I like that we get away with a little sillyness, but there's a limit. Also all those sticky/locked threads that are soo old and inaccurate might benefit...
What I don't look forward to:
Possibly less moderation, totally unusable forum because threads get derailed within seconds.
Possibly more anonymous users, but I think we'll find our own little spam corner. Spam spam spam!
Another great-guide-whipe. Sure I've got binds etc covered somewhere on the HDD, but it's easier so search the forum!
Possibly even more sluggish forum server
Name issues and all the whining about not getting "My name" and not being able to change the handle.
All the "the old forum was better" useless posts and the whining about EU ppl drowning in the "massive US player base".
More +1 posters building pyramids about nothing on really, really interesting threads.
See you in an issue or two posts increase
Can I have your stuff posts increase
Random pointless joke posts increase
Weekend epic threads - oh, wait, that might actually be really, really, really, really fun! ...and useless
Villain forum version possibly disappearing. I refuse to post on blue forums!

FYI: According to modern science (at least as it's presented to future teachers) Sarcasm is something you can't understand until you're about 18 years old. It takes experience and maturity, something sorely lacking most players!
They seriously suggest a teacher should never ever be sarcastic. Apparently I'm a very bad teacher. Yes, I'm baaad. Spank me!
Ok, so the forum merge is happening very soon. This is your chance to say what you will miss about these forums and look forward to in the next!
