Time spent on Char badges
I think they're already on the game, inf badges, mez badges, veteran badges and the acollades, show you somehow all that

In a way, but not reliably so. For example, Tanks likely need thousands of hours just to get the first mez badge (through normal play), while ATs with no mez protection are more likely to get it sooner.
Also, not all in-game activities are directly related to badge progress. You can rack upp hundreds of hours of playtime at the market, tweaking your base/costumes, RPing etc
So all in all, I'd say that playtime badges would probably be nice to have
Icelock - Ice/Storm Controller
Command Bot 1 - Bot/Traps MM
On character for one set and on account for an account wide set... that'll sort the long timers out.

I think you're quite wrong on the above.
Some of these can just show whether you've farmed or not. Most non-Day Job CoH Accolades can be gained in a single weekend if you really want them and don't mind farming for them. Veteran badges show how long an account has paid for, and are no indicator of character (or even account) playtime.
I'd thought before that character patrol/prowl/play-time badges would be a good addition (and more so since JD passed 1000 hrs some months back) so...

yes.. I like this one too... it gives a character history. Aside of the account history vet badges.

I was wondering where this thread had gotten to... *shameless bump*
Anymore ideas/support along these lines?

I am a bit meh with it. It encourages people to play for a badge that maybe no fun in getting. I find badges that encourage people to waste electricity and therefore cash by being perma-mezzed all night every night for however long by a sapper bad enough.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

Suggestion: Implement a set of time spent on Character Badges. e.g. 100 hours, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 and above badges. This would encourage longevity on a character and be something to achieve.
yay or nay?

I would say Nay.
Because it encourage people to leave they characters online, even when they don't really gonna play. We allready have veteran badges, what does it better.
Now we are merged I'm interested to see what you yanks etc think of the suggestion?
I think it's a fairly useless metric for a badge, to be honest

I must say I'm inclined to disagree with the idea.
As others have said, it basically would become the very poster child for afk farming though circumventing the autologout via the o-zone or a TF.

You can already find out how long the character has been on patrol just by finding a civilian with a name starting with "M" and clicking on them. You can find out how many times you've logged into the character by finding a civilian with a name starting with "N" and clicking on them.

I'd only be in favor of such a series of badges if there was a way the game could track the time a player spent being active. This would sort of be the "opposite" of being AFK. Maybe it could count the number of times you manually activate powers or some-such.
I'm sure somebody could figure out a way to farm that as well, but it would be fairly tedious to arrange in real life thus badges like that would have a certain aura of "legitimacy" to them. Badges that just key off of total time in game would become (as others have pointed out) the prime example of "badges you get for AFK farming".

Actually, it would be easy to farm being "active" since the most likely measure of activity would be a power being fired off - just put your character somewhere and set up something to auto-fire (aura heal, PBAoE, etc. - something that doesn't need a target) all night. You could even auto-run or auto-fly into a wall.
I'm also not in favor of the OP's suggestion because I don't see any value to promoting that kind of behavior and it doesn't really offer any kind of "marker" to distinguish playing ability or anything else.

What I was talking about was the game's ability to detect "legitimate" manual button-pushing from players, an ability I was implying the game probably does -not- really have at the moment. *shrugs*
