Theres a rather large difference between someone who has watched someone play the game, probably knows how it works fairly well before they even pick it up, and someone who goes online/into a shop and goes 'Ooo, City of Heroes, MMO...I'll give that a go.'
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

She didn't, it was more like "i wanna play the game you keep ignoring me to play"
But she'd never seen me play, never watched trailers, didn't know much about it apart from i like playing it.
But seriously the point i was trying to make is, that once she hit level 50, she only knew how to move around and sit at the door. But once she was there, people spent time with her (me, my brother, my dad, my step-mum and in game friends) and taught her a few things, some she learnt by herself, and now if you team with her you'd have no idea she MA-PLed to 50.
It was just because she got the oppertunity to join in teams and make mistakes and learn from them, instead of people avioding her for only having MA badges.
If we take the combined knowledge of everyone posting in this topic, and use it to teach PLed people how to play, we could have quite a few more high level teams/TF's going on with the extra people.
It's now Issue 21 and I am back!

Two important factors. She got people willing to teach her to play, which is, yes, a good thing.
Second factor, she WANTED to learn how to play right. You try teaching some of the Farmed players around, and they do literally expect to be fed on a plate I excrete you not.

This is the reason as to why many of us dislike MA, including me.
Bluntly, the game's called City of Heroes/Villains, not City of Teachers. While I'm only too happy to explain things in-game and on-fora to the best of my ability and have gone out of my way to help new players of low levels I thoroughly resent being expected to do so for people who've not made any particular effort to learn stuff for themselves while nonetheless enjoying the (dubious) benefits of high-level play.
And, as Techbot said: not every player responds well even to extremely politely and carefully-worded tells suggesting they try thing X (which, again, I go out of my way to do). I don't want to be one of the "problem" players in this game, and I truly don't want to come off as a US forum-style LRN2PLAYN00B type, but once one's been burned a couple of times there's not much incentive to do anything other than fill one's ignore list and team only with players one already knows.
Cancelled in Three - MA ID #34608. Please play and comment! Top 10 placing in Projectionist's MA contest!

Awful lot of assumption there though, old chap Your points are also entirely valid. However, the MA does massively increase the chance of, call them 'Farmed' players, for those who have no idea how the game works in any great depth.
Now, your quite right that you got them before MA. I teamed with a few myself Now some were simply like I was when I started out, a bit 'Hoo boy, hows this all work?'. When I commented, advice and chat was exchanged, and things went well. On other occassions, it didnt go so well, with the other member normally throwing a fit of some sort, and generally a few insults
The MA also causes a problem, mainly in Atlas, of somewhat choking any chance of using broadcast for anything other than LFF messages. Before, you could lob a question out there, and normally get two to three workable answers, alongside some humourous comments. Nowadays its hard enough to say anything without getting lost in the torrents. And yes, that is when its busy. Because when its quiet theres very people on (I keep villainous hours )
Anyway, as ever, it's simply my opinion. There are others that hold a similar opinion. If the Devs percieve it as a problem, as we do, they will do something about it (Hopefully). If they think its all WAI, then thats the way it will stay.
[/ QUOTE ]
Assumptions are fun
It seems to me that the problem many have with MA is not that it allows people to level quickly but that it jams up the chat channels in Atlas which really isn't MAs fault.
Seems one option and probably far easier than removing a building would be to deaden chat from inside the MA buildings so that chat that happened within the MA building on specific channels (broadcast, Local, etc) wouldn't be heard out with the building.

Given it took me 15 months to get my first 50, earned, paid for and done the very hard way (back when debt was the ultiamte weapon ), then you get players who take 6 hours and, on top of that, dont know how to play. And act like they own the place 'Omg lols i got 12 50s youse got 2 lol!1'. And with an increased side helping of rude.
However, its not particularly me, or even other long term players Im worried about (and that was never the aim of the thread). The point is that the MA isn't doing new comers any favours, either short term or long term. Short term, they miss out on the main game content. Long term there is a larger chance of them not knowing how the game works, and then struggling to do anything outside of MA. It does have a knock-on effect for when they try. In general, its just not helping.
Me, once I figure out how to recalibrate those defence satellites to hold the world to ransom, I'm sorted but thats a secret.

Simple answer that i don't think anyone has suggested. Make MA a zone itself. Sort of like Midnighters club (MA is bigger that that tiny place so i don't see it being a problem)
You click on the door (like Midnighters) and LOAD into the MA building instead of just entering it.
It'll stop the spam in the lower level zones.
It'll be eaiser to impliment a level restrition if the devs choose to do so.
It'll stop confusing chat with some people wanting MA and some people wanting normal missions etc.
It'll mean new players don't see an easy option to level as soon as they enter the game.
I would say however that unlike the midnighters club, they won't join together.
So if you type /sea on heroes they'll be
Atlas Park Mission Architect
Steel Canyonn Mission Architect
etc etc
Personally i just use RWZ to powerlevel all my new charactors anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
Best idea here.
making the AE buildings into a seperate zone will stop the whole area getting spammed with /LFFT (solving a few issues) without causing any problems for those that do want to head right to AE and ignore the rest of the game.

Actually I like the zone idea but what's wrong with having it as a single zone with a setup like Pocket D or Midnighter's (Each MA building loads into the one zone and the MA exit doors are marked to where you'll end up)? Broadcasts for teams would reach everyone in the zone and you could also have Villains and Heroes in the same building teaming with each other..

By right and for the good health of this game this should be out right impossible!
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

Use that portal in Pocket D that never seems to get used, or only for certain seasonal missions! Make a new zone as an 'add-on' to Pocket D (Whole new zone though)
And maybe add more Pocket D entrances around the city. I know that Redside has one less than blue, which is annoying, but hey.

If we are moving the AE building to Pocket D get rid of the one in RWZ then, it doesn't make sense having one there..

It would make more sense if it was near to/inside the base. After all, it can be used, IC, as a training simulation. Although yes, a Pocket D one would be very nice.

Ever been on a mothership raid in the RWZ when you get a zone full warning due to both the number of players for the raid (fine) and the players in the RWZ MA blocking more raid players from participating...
RWZ Vanguard base should have an out of zone portal to an AE/MA.
And I strongly agree with at least removing the Atlas Park AE/MA, Kings Row would be better suited for the Hero side low level AE/MA.
Additionally, Yes we could do with a Pocket D AE/MA (This could be the same one as the vanguard AE/MA portal one and with return portals to Pocket D and the RWZ Vanguard Base) and maybe even Base Parts (MA Console, Holo Contact Emitter and MA Green Portal) for SG/VG Bases 'Decorative Rooms'

Techbot_Alpha, Remember the MA seems to work like an instanced mission too, it seems to reserve you a place in the entrance zone to exit back into, as if you never left the zone, so very soon I expect to see the 'Atlas Park - Full' message due to the level of farming in Atlas.

This is why making the MA into a zone is a better idea (although i could imagine that being full pretty much 24/7.)
The best way to do it, is to only have MA in 3 zones. Maybe.. Kings, Indie Port and Peregrine Hero side, and have them all joining into one MA zone. I don't see that being hard for the devs to do, and it'll save alot of complaints.

Afterall, they sorta did it with the VG buildings, why not MA? And, since all the insides of the buildings *look* the same anyway...

Although the views out of the windows don't...
However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator
I'm sure the Dev's would be able to create an appropriate 'outside' which can be seen through the windows if they were to go with the zone idea. As to what that outside would be.. well they have the background story of the MA company to play with.

And then it's just a matter of swapping the entrances around; shifting the Atlas one to KR, RWZ to Pocket D etc.
